The 2020 Ondo Governorship election is scheduled to hold on October 10, 2020 in all 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Irele (4%), Ondo East (3%) and Akoko South East (2%) have the least proportion of registered voters.

Majority of the registered voters (48%) are youths in the age group of 18 – 35. Across the different senatorial districts, the youth significantly dominates other age groups.

One third of the LGAs account for more than half the registered voters in the state (53%). They are Owo LGA in Ondo North district; Akure South and Ondo West LGAs in Ondo Central district; and Odigbo, Ilaje, and Okitipupa LGAs in Ondo South district.

Ondo recorded a 10% increase in the number of registered voters between the 2016 governorship election and 2019 election

Ondo Central district has the highest proportion of registered voters (41%).

Akure South in Ondo Central has the highest proportion of registered voters (15.9%)

There are more male registered voters (51%) to female voters (49%) in each district and for the state.

The proportion of female registered voters is more than male registered voters in only three LGAs (Ondo West – 53%; Akoko North East – 52%; Akoko North West – 52%).

One third (32%) of registered voters are Students; this occupation also dominates other occupations in all the LGAs.

The PVC collection rate for Ondo is 81% (1,478,460 collected PVCs). Ondo South senatorial district has the highest rate of collection rate of 86%. Ilaje (96%) and Ese-Odo (95%) LGAs rated highest in PVC collection rates.

Six LGAs: Akure South, Ilaje, Odigbo, Okitipupa Ondo West, and Owo account for half (52%) of collected PVCs.

Akure South, Ifedore, Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo, Odigbo, Ondo West, and Owo LGAs accounted for 62% of 343,886 uncollected PVCs.

VOTING PATTERN

Since 2011, voter turnout has not exceeded 40% in Ondo state.

In the 2011 presidential election, turnout was 32% while 41% turnout was recorded in the 2015 presidential election. Turnout for the 2015 state assembly election was 34.9%. For the 2016 governorship election, turnout stood at 35%. In 2019, it was 33% for the presidential election and 29.3% for the state assembly election.

Although Ondo Central has the highest concentration of registered voters, Ondo North has a long history of high voter turnout when compared to other senatorial districts since the conduct of the 2011 election

With the exception of the 2011 presidential election, Ondo central senatorial district has the highest case of rejected votes in all election preceding the 2020 election.
