extracurricular activities. He is anaward-winning English professor who has served as Director of Undergraduate Studies, Director ofGraduate Studies, and Assistant Chairof the Department of English andComparative Literature. He led the inaugural Honors London SemesterAbroad and has directed the programthree times since. He is the author ofThe Drama of Dissent, an investigationof late medieval and Renaissance religious nonconformists and their uneasy relationship with contemporarytheater. Currently, he is completing abook manuscript, Funny Business:Telling Stories of Economic Innovationand Change. The study examines arange of emergent economic activitiesin England and America, beginning in the late sixteenth century and concluding with Hollywood responsesto the merger and acquisition scandals of the 80’s and the financialcollapse of 2008. Discussing artistsfrom Shakespeare and Marlowe toDaniel Defoe to Charles Dickens toOliver Stone, the book explores cultural excitement and anxiety aboutmajor shifts in wealth production andthe disruptive social changes they engender. Dean Kendall earned hisundergraduate degree from Yale, andthen master’s and PhD degrees atHarvard.

Outside, the grounds feature Europe’slongest hedge maze and gardens designed by Capability Brown. Travel to Stourhead, a NationalTrust estate, to stroll the 18th-century Arcadian-designed gardens. The sprawling grounds havewaterfalls, statuary and temples dedicated toApollo and Flora.

Continue to Marazion, one of Britain’s oldesttowns. Walk across the cobbled causeway orhop on a boat for a ride to St. Michael’s Mount.This fortress-like ancient abbey was built byBenedictine monks and dedicated to St. Michaelthe Archangel. Take time to explore the abbeyand appreciate the island’s sub-tropical gardens.

Following breakfast, transfer to Exeter via Plymouth.

Discovery: Nautical Plymouth and a Taste

of Gin. Plymouth welcomes visitors with its vibrant history and stunning natural harbor. This popular ocean city is recognized as the

home seaport for many renowned sea-faring adventurers—three of Captain Cook’s voyagessailed from here. See the Mayflower Steps thatcelebrate the Pilgrim Fathers’ point of departureaboard the Mayflower in 1620. Then learn moreabout this epic journey to the New World duringyour visit to the Mayflower Museum.

Relax over lunch in a Plymouth restaurant.

Tour the Plymouth Gin Distillery, England’s oldest working gin distillery. Originally built as amonastery, the distillery has been producing ginin the same still for over 150 years and useswater that comes from Dartmoor National Park.Enjoy tasting the smooth flavors and unique ingredients, including juniper berries, lemon peeland cardamom. The original 1793 recipe is still used today!

heritage at the visitors center, and visit the community of Widecombe-in-the-Moor and the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, an art center with handmade gifts and contemporary crafts.

Exeter | Salisbury | London

Following breakfast, depart for London via Salisbury. Your journey takes you through ruralsettlements, heaths, woodlands and chalky hillsides.

Discovery: Salisbury. Visit Salisbury, Wiltshire’s only city, known for its lively arts community and tangle of small lanes. Tour the13th-century Salisbury Cathedral, one of Europe’s most celebrated cathedrals. Its spirestretches to a lofty 404 feet, the tallest in England. He is the author ofThe Drama of Dissent, an investigationof late medieval and Renaissance religious nonconformists and their uneasy relationship with contemporarytheater. Currently, he is completing abook manuscript, Funny Business:Telling Stories of Economic Innovationand Change. The study examines arange of emergent economic activitiesin England and America, beginning in the late sixteenth century and concluding with Hollywood responsesto the merger and acquisition scandals of the 80’s and the financialcollapse of 2008. Discussing artistsfrom Shakespeare and Marlowe toDaniel Defoe to Charles Dickens toOliver Stone, the book explores cultural excitement and anxiety aboutmajor shifts in wealth production andthe disruptive social changes they engender. Dean Kendall earned hisundergraduate degree from Yale, andthen master’s and PhD degrees atHarvard.

He is the author ofThe Drama of Dissent, an investigationof late medieval and Renaissance religious nonconformists and their uneasy relationship with contemporarytheater. Currently, he is completing abook manuscript, Funny Business:Telling Stories of Economic Innovationand Change. The study examines arange of emergent economic activitiesin England and America, beginning in the late sixteenth century and concluding with Hollywood responsesto the merger and acquisition scandals of the 80’s and the financialcollapse of 2008. Discussing artistsfrom Shakespeare and Marlowe toDaniel Defoe to Charles Dickens toOliver Stone, the book explores cultural excitement and anxiety aboutmajor shifts in wealth production andthe disruptive social changes they engender. Dean Kendall earned hisundergraduate degree from Yale, andthen master’s and PhD degrees atHarvard.

He is anaward-winning English professor who has served as Director of Undergraduate Studies, Director ofGraduate Studies, and Assistant Chairof the Department of English andComparative Literature. He led the inaugural Honors London SemesterAbroad and has directed the programthree times since. He is the author ofThe Drama of Dissent, an investigationof late medieval and Renaissance religious nonconformists and their uneasy relationship with contemporarytheater. Currently, he is completing abook manuscript, Funny Business:Telling Stories of Economic Innovationand Change. The study examines arange of emergent economic activitiesin England and America, beginning in the late sixteenth century and concluding with Hollywood responsesto the merger and acquisition scandals of the 80’s and the financialcollapse of 2008. Discussing artistsfrom Shakespeare and Marlowe toDaniel Defoe to Charles Dickens toOliver Stone, the book explores cultural excitement and anxiety aboutmajor shifts in wealth production andthe disruptive social changes they engender. Dean Kendall earned hisundergraduate degree from Yale, andthen master’s and PhD degrees atHarvard.

Currently, he is completing abook manuscript, Funny Business:Telling Stories of Economic Innovationand Change. The study examines arange of emergent economic activitiesin England and America, beginning in the late sixteenth century and concluding with Hollywood responsesto the merger and acquisition scandals of the 80’s and the financialcollapse of 2008. Discussing artistsfrom Shakespeare and Marlowe toDaniel Defoe to Charles Dickens toOliver Stone, the book explores cultural excitement and anxiety aboutmajor shifts in wealth production andthe disruptive social changes they engender.
