Sprinkle birdseed on the saucer, and this mini garden becomes a birdfeeder. Just be sure to glue down the rocks on the outside so the birds can’t fly off with them.

2. Frog Along

We used a fairy garden kit (which includes moss mat, bark, Spanish moss and more) to bring this small-scale garden to life—along with some curly willow vines and bright yellow poppy pods.

Fairy gardening is all about using your imagination—and we put our imagination to work on this window made of willow vines, gingham ribbon and lace trim.

5. Felt AwayYou won’t find those darling yellow flowers on the shelf, but you can make your own in three easy steps: 1) Cut large circles out of felt. 2) Cut circles into spirals. 3) Roll spirals into flower shape, hot gluing to secure as necessary.

Where some see a peek-a-boo wreath, others see the perfect fairy garden container. Fill the bottom with moss-covered foam, and you’ll have a stable base to work with.

Look closely, and you can see lights wrapped around the tree bark beside the house. These miniature, battery- operated lights add an extra helping of magic and whimsy to an already enchanting fairy garden.

6. Bright Idea

Here’s another way to add a little glow: faceted beads and glitter-embellished flowers. When they catch the afternoon sun, they dazzle in more ways than one.

8When a house sits high atop an olive bucket, how’s a gnome to reach it? By climbing up a DIY’d ladder, of course. We made ours by gluing mini craft sticks to lengths of twine.

8. To the Ladder

A fairy garden takes a trendy turn with succulents. We chose a many-flowered succulent pick and made teensy air plants out of leftover lavender leaves.

9. Trunk Space

A 16" x 18" moss mat was the perfect base for this chair garden. Other features: foam block to elevate house, mini logs as steps, moss vine on back of chair.

Many fairy-garden components come readymade (like these houses), but others are of the some-assembly-required variety (like the stairs—they’re made of mini birch rounds).

11. Stair Deal

Speaking of readymade fairy gardens, this charming house comes just like you see it. But the true magic is in the details. Ours include a vine-wrapped arch, a bark walkway and a few friendly critters.

12. Garden Variety

Fairy-garden containers can be found all over the store. You’ll find lots of ideas here in the Floral Dept. (like planters, wreaths and buckets), but the Home Decor Dept. is another of our favorite places to browse—that’s where this metal scoop came from.
