LOS ANGELES MISSION COLLEGE
LA Mission College Is In 3rd Place WSC
Supremacy Standings With the 2014-2015 academic and athletic season closed out, Los Angeles Mission College finished 3rd out of 16 colleges in the Western State Conference Supremacy Standings. The Eagles earned 5.90 points, only .29 points behind second place Santa Barbara City College (6.19 points) and .60 points behind College of the Canyons (6.50) who won the award for a second straight year. Los Angeles Mission College finished in 2nd place last year, behind College of the Canyons. Cuesta College (5.87), and Ventura College (5.17) round out the rest of the top five finishers. Points are awarded in the WSC Supremacy standings according to team’s finishes in conference play. Those points are totaled up and then divided by the total number of sports they have competed in, to find the highest average. The Western State Conference Supremacy Award was established during the 1980-1981 academic year. In its 37th year of existence, only eight current WSC colleges have won the award, and Canyons is just the fourth to win at least two straight. The Western State Conference was established in 1950, making it the oldest community college conference in California. The Western State Conference is committed to academic excellence, along with community responsibility through athletic participation. It has been our intention to offer a variety of sports maintaining equitable competitive balance within a reasonable geographic area.
The Eagles, who in 2014 finished 2nd in the Western State Conference will feature 11 times in the newly built artificial turf field, located at El Cariso Park, throughout the 2015 season. The season opener will be a non-conference game on August 29th versus San Bernardino Valley College at 2:00 PM. Following the season- opener against SBVC, the Eagles will travel up north to take on Taft College on September 1st. The Eagles will continue with their non-conference schedule on September 9th when they travel south to take on Santiago Canyon. They will return home on September 11th to take on L.A Harbor College at El Cariso Park at 2:00 PM. They will open their league play at home on September 15th versus Allan Hancock before traveling to Citrus College on the 17th. The Eagles will begin a 3 game home stretch when they play their last non- conference game on September 22nd against Fresno City College. Their Conference schedule will continue at home with games against Glendale College on September 25th and the 2014 Western State

The Eagles will begin a two game home stretch on the 27th of October when they host Glendale College and on the 30th Oxnard College. The last four Conference games will see the Eagles play two home games, one on November 3rd as they host Santa Barbara City College. The last home conference game of the year will be on the 10th of November when Moorpark College visits El Cariso Park. Sylmar, Calif. – Los Angeles Mission College Men’s Soccer Program Has Released Its
Upcoming 2015 Fall Schedule
Women’s Volleyball 2015 Season Preview
The women’s volleyball team has spent the last several months rebuilding their skills from the ground up to prepare for this fall’s 2015 season. They’re aim is to stay competitive and improve on last season’s .417 conference record, with the most notable addition to the program coming in the form of new head coach Rich Barraza. Barraza is a decorated coach who has gained experience assisting the men’s volleyball program at Pepperdine University and working with the women’s program at Pierce College where he helped guide the team to back-to-back state championships in 2010 and 2011. He says the Eagles are taking advantage of every practice and prioritizing performance before results in order to stay strong until the end of the season where they hope to make an appearance in the playoffs. The team will be relying on the experience of returners like outside hitter Taryn Nelson and setter Jackie Contreras as well as the talent of their incoming freshmen class. The Eagles will begin preseason competition on August 28 with scrimmages at Ventura College. Their first home game will be against West LA College on Wednesday September 16 at 6 p.m. The opening conference match will be against Ventura at home on October 2.
