MPI - Minnesota Fashion
Citation preview
FROM PARKS TOPRADAThere is a fashion culture in Minneapolis City by Nature that is unlike anywhere in the country. Designers here draw their inspiration from basic elements like water and sunsets and create a new kind of earthy and urban chic style. In honor of Meeting Professionals International World Education Congress 2014, six designers are presenting congress attendees with a one-of-a-kind couture runway show. Showcasing the four seasons of Minneapolis, these exclusive styles are Minneapolis City by Nature.
Local designer Kayla Styczinski focuses on designing garments that are simplistic, functional and inspired. Though Styczinski studied at the London College of Fashion, her flowing designs juxtaposed with the structure of brocade in soft tones reflects Minneapolis nature.
Sisters Becky and Ellie Niemeyer, the minds behind Idle Child clothing brand, are originally from the Nebraska countryside. They made Minneapolis their home in pursuit of creating something that was honest and from their beautiful upbringing. Their garments are inspired by the beauty in nature and the free spirits who take time to enjoy it.
Lindsey Hopkins creates to inspire others to redefine their limits. She often works with prints to create highly emotional pieces that push the boundaries of what is considered appropriate. Hopkins hopes to inspire those who wear her clothes to reevaluate their ideals and approach their world with a fresh outlook.
Minneapolis designer Mary Pranica started the Jittery Knittery label in 2008 with an array of hand-knit, one-of-a-kind accessories and organically grew into clothing shortly thereafter.
Finally, Emily Trevor is inspired by luxurious and unusual fabrics, nature derived silhouettes and innovative details. Her fall collection, inspired by her mother’s childhood, consists of high-end ready-to-wear pieces, which address not only different occasions but also a variety of temperatures the Minneapolis natural environment provides.
