Cohesiveness
Over the last year or so, we’ve seen a num-ber of local conservative groups working together to organize forums and functions. Not only are these coordinated events a great way to share ideas and build relation-ships, they strengthen the conservative movement in our region and state. Mike Giles and the Republican Coalition of Collin County have been instrumental in this trend. Mike has united local Republican
clubs and Tea Parties in several successful events. Not surprisingly, he doesn’t like the
spotlight and he reminded me that these events are the result of a group ef-fort, not the work of any one individual. True, but I’ll point out that Mike’s good work continues today as he coordinates a joint Christmas party this year and joint candidate forums slated for next year. One thing is for sure, it’s been fun and productive working with the other groups, and it’s contagious.
Case in point, our club was asked by Carroll Maxwell—at the time he was President of Collin County Conservative Republicans—to consider joint meetings with his club rather than holding separate events on those rare occa-sions when, due to a holiday, we had to move our meeting dates from 1st Thursdays to 2nd Thursdays, CCCR’s meeting night. We recently ran across this issue when we decided not to hold our July social on the same week as Ju-ly 4. One quick conversation with Carroll and we saw the benefit of hosting a joint social of the two clubs on CCCR’s regular meeting night. Carroll’s suc-cessor at CCCR, President Terry Wade, picked up the baton and along with Corinne Mason, from the Golden Corridor, planned and pulled off a unique and successful July social at Texadelphia in Plano. Many thanks to Texadelphia for that. The restaurant closed for our event and was packed with guests who enjoyed the tasty food there and truly nice prizes put together by Terry and Corinne. We had a good turnout of elected officials and were pleasantly sur-prised by the number of first-time guests.
I’ve seen the benefits of these coordinated activities and I look for-ward to many more. Kudos to all of those who make them possible. Their work is keeping the conservative movement robust and cohesive.
