Spa Review: Spa of SensesLast month, Louise and I tried out the Spa of Senses at WorsleyPark, A Marriott Hotel and Country Club. Read our review...

FIRST IMPRESSIONSThe Spa of Senses is located within the luxurious Worsley Park, anideal setting for an indulgent experience.

The Spa itself has a tranquil atmosphere, decorated in neutral, calming, earthy tones. There are four spacious treatment rooms anda relaxation room where you can rest on loungers listening toserene music, before and after your treatment.

THE TREATMENTSI had a 1 hour Decleor Aroma Facial, and Louise opted for a DecleorTaster Facial combined with a Back, Neck & Shoulder Massage.

The treatment rooms were very soothing - dimly lit and full of thegorgeous smell of oils. The beds were incredibly comfortable withsoft towels and fleecy blankets. They were even heated, making itvery hard to want to get up and leave!

Both therapists, Jade and Jen, explained the treatments clearly, ensuring we were comfortable with all elements.

Decleor Aroma Facial - The treatment began with a mini back massage, which unwinds you straight away, followed by an in-depthfacial routine consisting of: 2 deep cleanses, tone, gentle exfoliation, oil & face massage, nourishing mask and cream. Plus, whilst themask is on, you receive a hand, neck & shoulders massage. It wasall very sumptuous. The Decleor products are made from naturalingredients and smelled wonderful - light, fresh and almost edible!

Decleor Taster Facial and Mini Massage - Louise, “the Taster Facialconsisted of a cleanse, tone, exfoliation and mask. The productssmelled beautiful and felt really soft on my skin. Jen pushed thepressure points on my face and gently massaged the products intomy skin. I was left with cool pads on my eyes while the maskworked and I fell into a dreamworld. For the back massage, I requested firm pressure and it was great. She used oil and highlightedan area of high tension on one shoulder and worked hard to undothe knots. All in all, it was a very relaxing experience”.

THE VERDICTWe both felt very relaxed and sleepy, but rejuvenated too. My skinwas noticeably brighter, younger looking and less tired. Since thenmy skin has been clearer and smoother, but I did invest in a goodDecleor Facial Wash (I'm too lazy to cleanse & tone) which hasprobably helped too.It was definitely worth the visit, and would be fantastic on a regularbasis. Having that time out purely for yourself and to be pamperedwas wonderful. Total indulgence, but a necessary pick-me-up in ourhectic lives of work and children. I savoured every minute of it!

Eat Well,Look & Feel

Great thisSummer!

The nutritional key to great hair, skin, nails and energy levels lies in a healthy, balanced diet based on fresh, unprocessed foods. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables, with lean protein, wholegrain carbohydrates and small amounts of unsaturatedfats and you'll bounce through the summer!

Extra virgin, cold pressed olive oil. Low fat diets can leave your skin dry, your hair dull andnails brittle, so drizzle a small amount of olive oil over your salad or use for pan frying.

Salmon is the superfood for hair and skin. Omega 3s help maintain scalp health andmoisturise skin, rendering it more smooth and supple. Salmon also contains zinc, whichhelps avoid white spots and brittleness in nails. Plus it's a great source of protein.

Chicken is also a great source of protein, which helps avoid hangnails and white bandson nails. It is a good source of Vitamin B12 which is essential for keeping skin hydrated, helps avoid nail discolouration and maintain hair colour.

Beans are one of the best foods you can feed your hair. This includes kidney beans andlentils. These foods contain protein, zinc and biotin which is a powerful hair growth andstrengthening formula.

Berries pack a great anti-oxidant punch, which not only help fight cancer, but alsopromote wonderfully healthy-looking skin.

Broccoli and other dark green leafy vegetables contain vitamins A & C which are essential for the production of sebum, the oily substance that lubricates and conditions hairfollicles. Vitamin A also improves the look and feel of skin through collagen formation.

Here are 8 foods we recommend...

Yoghurt is a source of calcium, which is essential for the production of strong, healthynails, bones and teeth.

Brown rice provides energy over an extended period, along with other wholegrainfoods like wholemeal bread, pasta and cereals. These foods help to keep your bloodsugar levels steady, avoiding sudden drops that leave you feeling low on energy.

Finally, make sure you are drinking plenty of water to keep your skin looking younger andsmoother, and to keep your energy levels high.

Serving our Community...St Ann’s Hospice, Little HultonSet in a quiet leafy lane just outside Worsley,St Ann's Hospice in Little Hulton celebrated its30th anniversary last year. Together the hospice staff and it’s dedicated volunteers provide support and specialist care to patientsand their families and carers in the Salford andManchester area.

St Ann’s hospice, founded nearly 40 years ago,has grown to become the largest hospice inthe North West, serving a population of 1.2 million people in Greater Manchester.

Across 3 sites over 3,000 people use St Ann'sservices each year in a range of settings: as aninpatient in the hospice or whilst living at home.Patients can also access day therapy servicesas an outpatient. All services are free of charge. The hospice employs over 300 staff and is supported by over 750 volunteers.

The hospice’s mission isto offer patients andtheir families and carers supportive and specialist palliative care to helpthem cope with complexsymptoms and pain

resulting from life limiting illnesses andhelp patients maximisetheir quality of life. Over90% of patients havecancer-related illnesses but the hospice alsocares for patients with other life limiting illnesses.

The NHS contributes just over 35% of theannual £9 million running costs. This meansthe hospice has to raise £16,000 every singleday and it's the generosity of the public thatkeeps the hospice running. For every £1 raisedin 2008/9, 92p was spent directly on the costof patient care.

St Ann's stages a whole host of fundraisingevents as well as supporting events throughoutGreater Manchester run by volunteer fundraisersin the community and in businesses.
