THE ROYAL BOOK OF OZLovely green cloth binding with silk book-marker. Highly Recommended. By Ruth Plumly Thompson. A wonderful new edition of the 15th book in the Oz series, first published in 1921. It is also the first book in the series writ-ten by Ruth Plumly Thompson. Six full-color plates, wonderful double-page color endpapers, two new maps and various vignettes, all drawn by Eisner Award nominated artist, Sara Rich-ard. Eisner Award winning artist and writer Eric Shanower provides an eight-page Afterword that puts this “lost” story into perspective. Clover Press, 2019. ROYOH. HC, 7x9, 258pg, Text/PC $30.00Deluxe Signed, Limited, 250. Slipcase: ROYOD. $75.00FRANK THORNE’S RIBITLimited, 1000. Recommended. Frank Thorne’s masterful blend of medieval sorcery and modern science comes together in another universe where only Ribit, the warrior woman created by magic, fights the final battle to save her world from the forces of chaos and darkness. Created as four comic books in 1989, the entire narrative has never been printed as Thorne intended until now! Limited to a print run of 1000 hardcovers. One page was left out of this when it was printed, so Hermes has included that page separately, in full color, and it can be slid into proper place. And an errata sheet explaining this is also included. Hermes Press, 2019. FRATRH. HC, 8x10, 144pg, PC $34.99 $31.99BATTLING BEAUTIES: Mature Readers. BATTBH. $60.00 $54.95 LANN: Limited, 1000! THE ART OF MUNASHICHIHighly Recommended. Munashichi became popular drawing steampunk-like fantasy worlds with an overwhelming detail, imagination, and bold, brilliant color. He is well known in the anime and gaming industry for the concept design for the acclaimed video games Tales of Zestiria and Tales of Berseria, and the concept artwork for the anime television series Princess Principals. Gigantic, sky-high buildings, deeply extended caverns, complex crossed pipes, factory scenes, abandoned places and nostalgic townscapes are themes commonly seen in his illustrations. PIE, 2020. On our CoverLE PATER ALPHONSE MUCHA’S SYMBOLIST MASTERPIECE Hardcover With PrintsWith 10 additional 6x9 inch prints! Only our first 35 copies will come with additional prints. Our Highest Recommendation. By Thomas Negovan. By 1899, Alphonse Mucha was the most recognizable artist of Art Nouveau graphics and the most celebrated illustrator in Paris. So Mucha insisted upon creating a deeply personal work, a magnificent, oversized deluxe limited edition, Le Pater. For the remainder of his life he considered this his master-piece. This Symbolist story features a female deity protecting humankind, sophisticated occult themes and mystical illustrations. And this edition from Century Guild is one of the most beautifully produced books I’ve seen: oversized, quarter leather, gilt embossed cover and gilt page edges...and packed with amazing work, from never-before-seen studies and paintings, each magnificent page of Le Pater itself. Century Guild, 2019. ALPMH. HC, 12x16, 224pg, PC $179.00Cover image courtesy of Century Guild Museum of Art.

News & NotesI really enjoyed Will Murray’s Tarzan, Conqueror of Mars. It’s on our backcover and the signed deluxe is on page 14. Also, ERB Inc. has announced they will bring EVERY ERB novel back into print, in uniform hardcovers, with new cover art. The first four Tarzan novels, each with a great new cover by Joe Jusko, are on page 11.Sanctum has released the final Shadow pulp reprints, bringing every one back into print. Except…some or all of the printing of #149 was lost, so we are awaiting a new printing. The final three volumes are longer, with extra stories. See page 11. All of Sanctum’s Doc Savage, most of The Shadow (#1-115), The Spider, etc. remain on sale--but supply is dwindling.I continue to bring in modern graphic novels (original new work) with mixed success. Some of my favorites, including several translated from the French, have done well. Others not so well. I personally enjoy these new, more mature stories, so I’ll keep dabbling in what I think are the best to come along, including the occasional young adult and manga works. See pages 3, 5, 22-23.Heavy Metal magazine can be hard to find, so I’m bringing in new issues. The latest is on page 30, and they’ll appear regularly in our weekly email and print newsletter. In Rare Books, we feature Erté, Frazetta, Jeffrey Jones, Syd Mead, Crumb and Vaughn Bode. We list new arrivals each week in the eblast and on the website. You’ll see a new format on the backcover of this catalog. Now it features just four items, to give each more space. These I hand pick from my favorites, just like the Featured Items on this and the following page. Our cover feature Le Pater is a gorgeous production, worth the two+ year wait. It was first announced at $100, then at $120--customers who reserved a copy really saved. We always honor the price you reserved a book at, regardless of a later price change. On our website you’ll find two additional Mucha volumes, Mucha at $11.95 and World of Mucha at $39.95. ~Bud

LITTLE JOE SUNDAY COMICS By Harold Gray 1937-1942Recommended. With the untimely death of his cousin and fellow cartoonist, Ed Leffingwell, Harold Gray took the reins of this seminal Western comic strip. Recommended. By Irving Klaw. Written by Cara Winter. The collab-

Not from DC, not from Marvel--this was an upstart company that became the million-selling publisher of Crime Does Not Pay, Boy Comics, and the original Dare-devil. DeHaven et al. Art by Rian Hughes. An eclectic and stylish collection of stories drawn by Rian Hughes, renowned il-lustrator and graphic designer, featuring his two collaborations with Eisner Award winner Grant Morrison. “Dan Dare” stars the iconic British character sci-fi character in a post-modern landscape he no longer understands. “Really and Truly” is a high-octane psychedelic road-trip torn from the pages of cult comic 2000AD. Hughes’ clean graphic style comes to the fore in duotone for “The Science Service”, writ-ten by John Freeman, and finally Hughes explores an evoc-ative noir palette for Raymond Chandler’s “Goldfish,” adapted by It’s Superman author Tom DeHaven. EC ARCHIVES Extra!Collects #1-5, 1955. Highly Recommended. Art by Johnny Craig, John Severin, and Reed Crandall. Foreword by John Arcudi. Exciting stories of daring world traveling reporters, mostly male with one beautiful lady, which con-tinue through each issue. Reed Crandall’s globe-trotting gal Geri Hamilton appears in every single issue, as does John Severin’s finely drawn Steve Rampart. Infected by Art Vol 7Highly Recommended. Edited by Todd Spoor and Bill Cox. Cover by Tran Nguyen (Ambedo) and back cover by Spectrum Grand Master Donato Giancola. This once again contains one of the most diverse groups of artists selected by their jury panel. 268 artists are represented, with works rang-ing from traditionally painted to digitally painted, illustrations in pencil, pen and ink or gold leaf, to sculpted works. Justin Gerard’s image “For Hate’s Sake” won IBA 7’s grand prize, with artists Annie Stegg Gerard, Jeremy Wilson, Colin Poole, and Tran Nguyen also receiving grand prize awards. Mature Readers. Infected By Art, 2019. INA07H. HC, 9x11, 328pg, FC $34.99

For example, Bill Stout writes about L. Frank Baum; Will Murray on John W. PSB01H. HC, 6x9, 392pg, PC $69.00Vol 2 SignedM.R. James to Wally Wood. Signed color illustrated bookplate by Von Sholly. Highly Recommended. Comics Ad MenHighly Recommended. By Steven Brower. Art by Jack Davis, John Romita, Neal Adams, Lou Fine and dozens more. Comics and modern American advertising exploded into the public conscious at much the same time, the 1930s to the 1960s. Collected now for the first time, the comics, cartoons, and illustrations from the other career of illustrious comics creators, 43 in all. Each in their own section, including Al Capp, Mort Meskin (Sheena), Ross Andru, Sheldon Moldoff (Batman), Noel Sickles (Scorchy Smith), Stan Drake, Joe Simon, Basil Wolverton, Dik Browne (Hagar the Horrible), Clifford McBride (Napoleon), Hank Ketcham (Dennis the Menace), Daniel Clowes (Ghost World), and many more. Fantagraphics, 2019. COMADM. SC, 9x11, 144pg, PC $30.00

TARZAN CONQUEROR OF MARSOur Highest Recommendation. By Will Murray. Mysteriously teleported to Mars just as John Carter once was, Tarzan searches for the one man who could show him the path home--The Warlord of Mars! I’m a huge fan of Murray’s first Tarzan novel, Return to Pal-Ul-Don. And just like reading Re-turn, I was sorry to see this new novel come to an end. It’s really fun, nice and long at 460 pages. Murray captures ERB’s style and voice very well. John Carter finally comes into play...in a major way...but not until halfway through the novel! I could elaborate, but no more spoilers. For the first half of the book, Tarzan 1) manages to stay allive, not easy, 2) explores the outer reaches of Mars, far from civilization, and 3) begins to meet the many denizens of Mars: White Apes, a Zitidar, Thoats, and Green Martians. Altus, 2020. TARCON. SC, 6x9, 460pg, Text Only $24.95Just Arrived Hardcover Signed Edition. See page 14: TARCONH. $65.00
