Designed to offer new
Members an ample and
integrated vision of the
Odebrecht Organization’s
businesses and holdings, the
Engineering and Construction
companies’ Young Partner
Program gathers hundreds of
new professionals for meetings
and activities for a two-year
period.
During the first year, the
youth participate in the
Introduction to Culture Program,
which promotes knowledge,
understanding and acceptance
of Odebrecht Entrepreneurial
Technology (TEO) and
encourages and supports their
first practices, such as the Action
Program (AP) and Evaluation
System.
During the second year,
Members participate in the
Young Builder Program,
which accelerates the training

Participants of the winning group of the “Simulated Bidding” activity, held during the Young Builder Program
developing their analytical
and decision making skills. The
participants learn about all the
stages of a contract and also
debate different topics, such
as Contract Administration,
Planning, Supply and Logistics,
Equipment, Finances,
Negotiation, Legal Affairs, People,
Health, Safety and Environment,
among others.
YOUNG BUILDER 2011
Since February of this year,
158 Members, divided into
three different groups, have
been participating in the Young
Builder Program (PJC). They are
professionals with ages ranging
from 23 to 30 from different
educational backgrounds and
areas of operation, from the
companies Odebrecht Energia,
Odebrecht Engenharia
Industrial, Odebrecht
Infraestrutura, Odebrecht
Administradora e Corretora
de Seguros (OCS) and the
Engineering and Construction
Operations (VP of Operations).
PJC consists of two modules:
Module 1 is dedicated
to studying the Client’s
achievement, with an emphasis
on identifying “What is right”
(effectiveness), and Module
2 is focused on executing the
construction work and seeking
Client Satisfaction, with a focus
on “Doing what is right well”
(efficiency).
Each module is divided into
two phases. During the first,
held at a distance, the youth
self-reflect and interact with the
leader as to their perceptions,
participate in an online course
on central topics and receive
reading materials and practical
studies. The second phase, which
is on-site, gathers participants for
6 odebrechtnoticias.com.br / no. 262 / july 2011
lectures administered by mentors
- Organization leaders - in which
they simulate practical activities
and a bidding process.
Eulina Vasconcelos, Responsible
for PJC, states that Young Builder
is a complete development
program, since it provides
participants with theoretical
information on different
areas while at the same time
encouraging the exchange of
experience and practices with
knowledgeable people from the
contracts. “We align programs
like this with our culture, making
Odebrecht a true living university
focused on the development
of knowledgeable people,” said
Vasconcelos.
For Renato Molina, from
the VP of Operations, PJC is a
complete and complex program.
“The contact with the mentors
and other participants, who
present different realities, is
essential for our development
and facilitates learning,” said
Molina. Thalita Rodrigues Silva,
from Odebrecht Infraestrutura,
cites the professional growth:
“The program has helped me
better understand the areas
of the project at which I am
allocated, contributing toward
my maturation at the company
and aiming always to achieve
results and Client Satisfaction,”
said Silva.
All of the material and activities
of the Young Builder Program
are developed by the People
and Organization team of the
VP of Operations in partnership
with the same area at the
companies, as well as mentors
and specialists. “PJC helps
promote an understanding of
the construction project, since
it allows the Young Builder
to better see the role of each
management department and
demonstrates the importance
of the synergy between the
areas for ensuring the success
of the development and Client
Satisfaction,” said Carolina
Almeida de Souza, from the
Odebrecht Energia People and
Organization area.

> integration
On July 15, Peruvian President at the time, Alan García, and the
CONIRSA Consortium (Odebrecht Peru, Graña Montero, JJC
Contratistas Generales and ICGSA) inaugurated the Continental
Bridge, constructed over the Madre de Dios River in the city of
Puerto Maldonado, located in the country’s Southern region.
Crucial for the conclusion of the South Inter-Oceanic Highway
(IIRSA Sul) – which will integrate the highway networks of Peru
and Brasil –, the bridge integrates the project’s Stretch 3 and
connects Puerto Maldonado to the district of El Triunfo,
in the Province of Tahuamanu. Before its construction,
vehicles and the population crossed the river on rafts.
The Continental Bridge, the largest yet constructed in Peru, was inaugurated on July 15

Extending 723 meters, the
Continental Bridge, Peru’s
longest, received investments
of US$ 30 million and
generated more than 400 job
opportunities. The bridge will
facilitate the flow of people
and merchandise and should
drive trade and tourism
between the two countries.
SOUTH INTER-OCEANIC
Traveling the more than 5,000
kilometers that separate the
city of Santos along São Paulo’s
Southern coast from Peruvian
ports became a reality with the
completion of the South IIRSA
construction work. Initiated in
2006 to unite the Atlantic and
Pacific Oceans, the road also
connects the Southern regions
of Peru to the Brazilian states
of Acre and Rondônia.
A total of 2,600 kilometers
roads pass through the
Brazilian highway network
until reaching the Peruvian
city of Iñapari, enter the
Peruvian Amazon, ascend

at a maximum height of 4,750
meters above sea level, and finally,
descend the Andes and part to
end at the San Juan de Marcona,
Illo and Matarani Port.
The South IIRSA Concessionaire,
an Odebrecht Organization
company, is responsible for
the concession for a 25-year
period, operating two of the five
stretches of the same, which
total 649 kilometers and connect
the regions of Cusco and Madre
de Dios. During the peak of the
construction, 7,000 Members
worked on the project, 70% of
whom were residents of local
communities.
The highway should help drive
bilateral trade, promoting
integration between the two
countries and helping to improve
the logistics chain with the
expansion of consumer markets
while reducing the commute time,
helping to boost competitiveness.
The South IIRSA will also promote
the development of sustainable
tourism through ecobusiness
programs, the conservation of
biodiversity and strengthening of
local governance.

OIV Tocoma Consortium Closes Caroní River
Atividades como a remoção de

To support the consortium’s initiatives, the client CORPOELEC - Empresa
Eléctrica Socialista granted the use of the installations at the Tocoma
Hydraulic Model, constructed in concrete, on a reduced scale. The
consortium was able to perform a precise simulation of the geometric
limits and contours of the lines of the foundations and structures present
in the hydraulic circuit, represented by cofferdams, access channels, the
spillway exit and the main chute for the river’s passage.
“The process allowed for the creation of a new Hydraulic Model,
constituting an engineering innovation for the consortium, breaking
the paradigms followed before to construct hydroelectric facilities such
as the Guri, Macagua I and II and Caruachi,” said José Carlos Camargo,
Director of the OIV Consortium. He further revealed that the use of the
resources allowed for the installation of the Optimized Hydraulic Model,
minimizing the costs and final deadlines required to construct Tocoma.
The maximum size of the special rocks used to close the river was
reduced from 74 to 21 tons and the use of large equipment for cargo,
transportation and concrete laying was optimized. “With the conclusion
of the Caroní River bypass and its closure operation, the consortium will
continue on to an even bigger challenge – which is the consolidation of
the hydroelectric power plant construction,” said Camargo.
The construction work, initiated in 2007, is scheduled for conclusion in
2013. The first unit should start operating during the last quarter of 2012.
Activities such as the removal of the cofferdams, the spillway structures and opening of ducts in the gate opening and closing structure also helped facilitate the river bypass process

On July 8, Salvador was the
host of the International
Sustainability Seminar -
Commitment to Conscious
Consumption, which
gathered over 200 people,
presented the main results
of the Terramiga Program
and promoted a discussion
on the importance of
conscious consumption.
Originating from an
agreement signed in 2006
in the amount of US$
2.35 million, Terramiga
is an initiative created
through a partnership
between the Inter-
American Development
Bank (BID), the Multilateral
Investment Fund (FOMIN),
the Odebrecht Foundation
and the Bahia Southern
Lowlands Sustainable
Development Institute
(IDES). Its main objective
was to develop models
that could reduce rural
poverty, boost agricultural
productivity and good
practices, reduce the
environmental impact
and create access to
products with higher added
market value. In 2009, the
Mitsubishi Corporation
began supporting the
initiative.
During the seminar, Roberto

Rich Harwood, considered a reference in community development, spoke about the types of inter-personal relationships and addressed issues related to trust, politics and media
Area, highlighted the
achievements and
continuity of the actions.
“When consumers know
what is behind a product,
they will have no doubts
when it comes to choosing,”
said Lessa. “The challenge
is getting this message to
them.”
The funds from Terramiga
were used to support
1,000 families who work
to produce manioc root,
heart of palm, piassaba
and fish. In five years, the
partnership helped boost
the production, monthly
income of the members and
earnings of the cooperatives
associated with the
Bahia Southern Lowlands

Area Mosaic Integrated and
Sustainable Development
Program (PDIS), supported
by the Odebrecht
Foundation.
Luciana Botafogo, Fomin/
BID Sector Specialist,
emphasized that these
are the results desired
for the actions supported
by the institution. “We
seek to generate for our
beneficiaries measurable
impacts and we believe that
the only way to increase our
activities is through projects
such as Terramiga,” said
Botafogo.
Different lectures were
22 odebrechtnoticias.com.br / no. 262 / july 2011
presented during the
International Seminar. PDIS
was presented by Mauricio
Medeiros, Executive
President of the Odebrecht
Foundation. “We don’t
get anywhere alone,” said
Medeiros. “We are service
providers, and through
programs such as Terramiga,
we have found the synergy
to make the dream of a
more just Brazil a reality,” he
said.
For Yu Shiobara, Director of
the Mitsubishi Corporation
do Brasil, the project
defends the family famers
and environmental
conservation. “That is why
we value our participation
in the initiative,” said
Shiobara.
The President of the Pratigi
Environmental Protection
Area Intermunicipal
Consortium (CIAPRA)
and the Piraí do Norte
Mayor, Heráclito Menezes,
recalled the importance of
the integration between
different institutions as a
major differential of PDIS:
“With this coordination
and the commitment of
each one, we will develop
benefits for all,” said
Menezes.
INTERNATIONAL

On July 19, the Madeira River closure
work was finalized in Porto Velho with the
bypass of the waters from its natural bed
to the main spillway structure of the Santo
Antônio Hydroelectric Power Plant.
During 33 months of construction work,
the closure of the Madeira River, as well
as its management, were the greatest
challenges faced due to its size and the
abundance of water.
The closure of the river was concluded
10 days ahead of schedule, and occurred
in two phases. The first, which began on
July 5, involved the opening of the spillway
gates and the launch of blocks of rocks
onto the river bed from the right bank. The
event included the presence of Brazilian
President, Dilma Rousseff.
July 15 marked the start of the second
phase, with the launch of rocks from the
left bank, culminating with the formation of
the cofferdam cord, extending 600 meters,
and the conclusion of the closure. Some 100
Members participated in the process.
The work continued with the launch
of rocks in the structure until reaching
the quota of 54 meters above sea level.
The next step will be the start of the
transition and sealing in clay to ensure its
consolidation.
A similar cofferdam will be constructed
downstream and will allow for the closure
of this enclosure for the start of the
construction work for the fourth generator
group, with the development’s last bulb
turbines.

Ribeirão Preto. This phase also includes the
construction of the Ribeirão Preto Collection
Center (CCPR).
The start of the construction work was
symbolized with the arrival of the first
shipment of coated pipes, with a total length
of 40 km, distributed between the construction
sites in the municipalities of Artur Nogueira,
Leme, Santa Rita do Passa Quatro and
Cravinhos. The construction and assembly of
the pipelines will begin in August of this year.

The industrial kitchen of the Santo Antônio
Hydroelectric Power Plant in Rondônia reached
the record of 15 million services performed since
its inauguration two years ago. The site, installed
along the left bank of the Madeira River, produces
meals for the six restaurants at the construction
site, which serve 18,000 Members per day.
Three hundred and thirty Members work in
the kitchen, 310 of which are residents of Porto
Velho, trained by Odebrecht Energia. The teams
prepare the menu with the support of nutritionists
based on the Brazilian Ministry of Labor Workers’
Meal Program (PAT) and following the standards
of the National Health Surveillance Agency
(ANVISA).
According to Hédio Perdomo, Meal Manager,
96% of the foods used come from the state and
all the leafy greens are hydroponic, or in other
words, free of pesticides. He also explained
that, to avoid contamination, the provisions are
not mixed and the seasonings are supplied in
individual sachets. “In our kitchen, the foods that
come in are not mixed with those that go out,
and that is why there is no risk for contamination
between those ready to eat and those in natura,”
said Perdomo.
Another daily precaution is a collection of
samples of the foods served. They are stored
for 72 hours so that they may be analyzed in
the case of contamination. “This is one of the
recommendations of ANVISA, which is the leading
