Math Placement
Your Math Placement Your math level and your major are used to determine your first math course.
1. Identify your current Math Level
Based on Math SAT or Math ACT scores for a majority of students (see table below).
Advanced Placement AB or BC Calculus credit or Dual Enrollment can override your college board test score for math placement. You have the option to repeat a math course credited through AP or Dual Enrollment.
International students will be required to take the Math Placement Test through the Math Department before they can register for a math course. Domestic students are not eligible to take the Math Placement Test.
Your math level can also be found on your Advising Transcript in Banner. (my.uncc.edu)
2. Identify the math level required for your major in order to start on track in the curriculum
SAT Math ACT Math Math Level (ML) Course # Math Course

Advising
Each First Year Engineering student will be assigned an Academic Advisor in the Office of Student Development and Success (OSDS).
Advising is essential to navigating your way to graduation, but this is not a passive activity—you—as the student, have an active role.
Advising FAQs
Q. Where do I find out who my advisor is and what if I do not have one?
A. You will be given your advisor’s contact information at SOAR. After you attend SOAR, log in to My.uncc.edu and click to access CONNECT. You should see your academic advisor(s) name listed under Your Success Team. If this information is missing or seems inaccurate, contact OSDS at 704-687-1991.
Q. Will my advisor register me for my classes?
A. No, you must register through your student account on my.uncc.edu.
Q. How do I change my major?
A. After attending SOAR, consult with your academic advisor regarding change of major requests.
Q. What is a course withdrawal?
A. A withdrawal refers to a course students drop after the specified add/drop period. A grade of ‘W’ will appear on the transcript. Note: A student is limited to 16 credit hours of ‘W’ and should talk with an advisor before withdrawing.
Q. What is grade replacement?
A. Undergraduate students may request to replace the grade for up to two courses. Grade replacement requests are submitted in Banner, prior to the add/drop deadline. Both grades will be reflected on the student’s transcript. However, the higher of the two grades will be used to calculate the GPA.
Q. What are registration and transcript holds?
A. These are holds listed on your student account that prevent class registration or transcript requests. All College of Engineering students receive a registration hold after attending SOAR. This will prevent you from making changes to your course registration. If a change is necessary, contact your academic advisor. In future semesters, you will have a hold placed on your account requiring you to consult with your advisor each semester.

MAPS exists to improve the retention, academic performance and professional development of students who are committed
to earning degrees from UNC Charlotte’s Lee College of Engineering. The program serves as a resource to connect engineering,
engineering technology, and construction management students to college and campus-wide resources, extra-curricular
opportunities, and organizations with the goal of developing independent learners and problem solvers.
MAPS Transition Coaching consists of 10 sessions per semester, and can be completed by attending a mixture of in-class and
out-of-class sessions. In-class sessions are facilitated by 2 upper-class College of Engineering students, and allow for 10
participants, each.
Sign up begins July 23rd. Look for your email invitation in your University email account.
