The Archdiocese of New York encompasses 295 parishes in the greater New York area. The Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal (CASA) is the annual fund for the Archdiocese, raising over $20 million a year, to support the pastoral, educational and charitable efforts which impact countless people throughout its ten counties.
We are looking for campaign managers with 1-3 years’ experience passionate about the Church to be a part of our development team. Ideal candidates possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
Responsibilities:• Help provide financial strength and stability to the Archdiocese of New
York and its parishes by assisting in raising money for necessary capital projects, operational expenses, debt reduction, or to enhance reserves for future needs
• Meet regularly with pastors across the archdiocese to design a tailored approach in order to help the parish reach its fundraising goals
• Develop and implement strategies for increasing participation in assigned parishes• Identification and advancement of prospects who have the capacity for greater giving• Data management and analysis with the goal of maximizing fundraising efforts• Prioritize closing gifts in the $500-$5,000 range
Position Requirements:• Education: Bachelor’s degree required• Driver’s license required as driving is a necessity for visiting assigned parishes• Proficient in MS Office Suite• Experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus• Fluency in Spanish is a plus

campaign Overview: For over 200 years, parishes in the Archdiocese of New York have been spiritual homes to millions of Catholics from every conceivable background and ethnicity.
The Archdiocese embarked upon a $200 million capital campaign, Renew + Rebuild. The primary purpose of this campaign is to renew and revitalize our faith communities by providing support to our parishes, clergy, schools, and charities. As part of the Renew + Rebuild team, you will play an invaluable role in aiding pastors and parishioners to build and sustain active ministries and vibrant community life.
If you are passionate about supporting the Church, you will help to implement and execute the pledge redemption efforts of the Renew + Rebuild capital campaign. We are seeking an individual with 3-5 years’ experience, preferably a fluent Spanish speaker to:
• Implement all back-office aspects of the capital campaign pledge collection process, including but not limited to pledge redemption mailings, outreach phone calls.• Provide support to campaign managers.

The Vatican document also placed the question of secrecy in the larger context of a “cultural and moral ‘in-volution’” that seems incapable of “recognizing and respecting” essential elements of human existence and life in the Church. Too often, it said, “the judgment of public opinion” is invoked as the highest court, and people feel free to publish or broadcast anything with the excuse of letting the public be the judge without concern for a per-son’s conscience, reputation and right to defend him- or herself. —CNS
father paul Chin-Yong Kang, a former parochial vicar of three parishes in the archdiocese, died June 22. He was 56.
He was parochial vicar of our Lady of mount Carmel parish, poughkeepsie, 1993-1995; St. patrick’s, Staten island, 1992-1993; and St. Ann’s, ossining, 1991-1992.
Since 1998, he had worked outside the archdiocese, in-cluding at a parish in Korea. He also served for three years in new Jersey, beginning in 1995.
He was born in Seoul, Korea, and his family was not Catholic at the time. According to a profile about father Kang published in CnY in 1991, his in-troduction to the Church came when he was in sixth grade and went to mass at immaculate Conception Ca-thedral in Seoul with Catholic friends.
He wanted to know what the cer-emony meant, and a friend spoke to a nun, who gave him a catechism. He studied it and began attending reli-gious instruction. He was baptized at age 15 in 1977.
He became an altar boy and served
mass for the late Cardinal Stephen Kim of Seoul. At age 16, he entered preparatory seminary, Holy Ghost High School. After graduation he began seminary studies at Seoul Catholic College.
in 1983, his family immi-grated to the united States. They settled in flushing, Queens, and went to mass at St. philip neri parish, the
Bronx. They became parishioners of St. John nam in the Bronx.
Guided by the pastor, father Si-mon H. nam, he entered St. John neumann residence in 1984 before studying at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie. He was ordained in 1991 at St. patrick’s Cathedral.
He earned a master’s degree in di-vinity and a bachelor’s in sacred the-ology from St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie, and a bachelor’s in phi-losophy and theology from St. John’s university in Queens.
A funeral mass was offered June 26 at the Catholic Korean Church of St. paul Chong Ha-Sang in flushing, Queens.
Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery, farmingdale.

margaret Barrett, mother of father michael Barrett and the late father Brian Barrett, died June 24. She was 94.
father michael Barrett, a priest of opus Dei, is the pastor of St. Agnes parish, manhattan, and father Brian Barrett, a priest of the archdiocese, served as professor of moral theology at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, before his death in 1996.
Born in manhattan and raised in the Bronx, she was a graduate of Cathedral
High School and St. Vincent’s Hospital School of nursing, both in manhattan.
Her daughters, Aileen ferrick, marie Clifford and Teresa Hamdan, also sur-vive her as well as 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and her sister, Anne murphy. Her husband of 52 years, patrick Barrett, predeceased her.
A funeral mass was offered June 28 at St. Joseph’s Church, Bronxville. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cem-etery, Hawthorne.
