As part of your winter reading join us as we explore the themes of Catholic writers. John Collins will guide the parish through writings from Flannery O’Connor and Walker Percy. He will be holding both morning and evening sessions .

We will have used books available for $5.00 or you can purchase new on Amazon or at your local bookstore. John plans to offer a class on Catholic poets later in the spring.
Fr. Daniel Greenleaf will resume Mondays with the Bible at Holy Martyrs Church in late January. We will be reading from the Gospel of Matthew at Mass this year and it is important to understand the major themes that flow through it from an adult perspective.
Teens are
specially invited to study the
Scriptures along with their parents.

The March for Life began as a small demonstration and rapidly grew to be the largest pro-life event in the world. The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision, every year since 1973, is a witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of our time: abortion. Trip includes 2 nights hotel, round-trip coach bus transportation, breakfast Saturday & Sunday. All other meals not included. $260 pp.

for ages 5 to 14 For many in society Christmas has become a secular holiday. To combat this, the Knights of Columbus
has introduced the “Keep Christ in Christmas” poster contest. This program will allow young people to engage their creative talents and imaginations while understanding the true, spiritual meaning of Christmas. LITTLE BLESSINGS
Please join our first gathering of the POTHE young families group, "Little Blessings," on January 12, 2017, 10:30-11:30 am, at Sacred Heart Rectory, at 326 Main Street, in Yarmouth. Interactive activities will be provided for the children and conversation and rotating prayer and faith formation for the adults! We will be meeting in the rectory (white building) adjacent to Sacred Heart Church. Please bring snacks and toys to share.

As an offering to you this Advent we have placed copies of Pope Francis’ encyclical The Light of Faith in the churches. Perhaps you can find some quiet, prayerful moments to read it during this busy season, preparing for the great gift brought to us by Jesus. As we approach the darkness of the longest night, let us remember:
“I have come as light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in
darkness.” John 12:46
Cumberland/Falmouth Food Pantries: The pantries are extremely busy leading up to Christmas and New Year, but we are still in serious need of the basics—cereals, mac/cheese, soups, peanut butter and jelly, helpers, soap, shampoo, toilet tissue, and personal items. Thank you for remembering your neighbors in need in the rush of the season! Jack Mullin St. Vincent de Paul: You have been just great donating the warm coats, pants, sweaters, hats, mittens ,socks, and underwear for those who spend a good amount of time out in the cold! Turkey taco casserole, Korean pulled beef, sausage with pasta, baked chicken, broccoli salad, corn bread, farmers market vegetables -- these are some of the contributions parishioners made to Friendship House early in December. This was an unusually large gathering of donations on our part, and the men helping to carry them into FH were impressed (especially one newcomer) and very grateful to you all.
Many thanks from me as well. Our next meal for FH will be Wednesday, January 4. -- Deborah Nicklas @ 781-4632

We thank all parishioners who have been generous in giving to those in need this Christmas. The response has been fantastic. The trees were emptied of tags, gifts were brought in, and are now being sorted and delivered.
