When Cora is savagely

murdered, the extraordi-

nary remark she made

the previous day at her

brother’s funeral takes

on a chilling signifi-

cance. At the reading of

Richard’s will Cora was

clearly heard to say, “It’s

been hushed up very

nicely, hasn’t it...But he

was murdered, wasn’t

he?” In desperation, the

family solicitor turns to

Hercule Poirot to unravel

what happened next.

Published in 1953 and

ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH

Christ' (2 Peter 3:18). But what

do we mean by “Growing in

Christ” and how do we grow?

Do we need to? What is nec-

essary and what obstacles are

there to growth?

These are some of the ques-

tions that will be addressed

and show that God's salvation

in Christ goes much further

than to forgive our sins and

give us a right to enter His

eternal kingdom. Spiritual

growth is not just desirable

but essential. To grow in

Christ we will need to love

what Christ loves and hate

what He hates, putting aside

our old ways and putting on

new ways and attitudes.

As physical growth is a sign of

life and health in the natural

world, so spiritual growth is a

sign of spiritual life and

health. God has made the nat-

ural world to reflect the spir-

itual. Growth is a sign of life

and health. Growth is not an

option but a necessity and

requires both what we need to

have and what we need to

avoid.

Our theme for the 2016-17

Church Activity Year is

“Growing in Christ.” On Sun-

day’s all ages will be focused

on “Growing in Christ.” In the

apostle Peter's second letter

we are encouraged to 'grow in

the grace and knowledge of

our Lord and Savior Jesus

Through the cross of Christ

we are not only saved from

the penalty of sin but also its

power. The good news is that

in Christ God has given us,

by His grace, everything we

need to grow in Him and be-

come a holy people, not only

to ensure our entrance into

His eternal kingdom but also

that we might know peace

and joy now to His praise and

glory.

I can’t wait for our “Growing

in Christ” together here at

Zion!!

Peace and Joy!
