  • Prayers needed for our pilgrims: Our parish youth and their chaperones will be embarking on a prayerful pilgrimage to Indianapolis, Nov. 18 - 21, 2015 to attend the National Catholic Youth Conference. NCYC is a powerful, biennial, three-day experience of prayer, community, and em-powerment. The Dodge City Diocese will be represented by 297 attending this year. Please pray for the youth and their adult chaperones. St. Ann’s of Olmitz and St. John the Evangelist youth are joining with the Wichita Diocese to celebrate the Year of Fr. Kapaun and his cause for canonization. Thanks to a generous donor from St. John par-ish, our youth will be sharing personalized Fr. Kapaun “dog tags” and prayer cards for his cause for sainthood at NCYC. The Diocese of Wichita and the Vatican have begun the formal process that could lead to Father Kapaun's canonization. In 1993, it was announced that Fr. Kapaun would receive the title of "Servant of God"; the title given to a candidate for sainthood whose cause is still under investigation, prior to beatification. Father Kapaun was named a Servant of God in 1993. Bishop Carl Kemme will be in Rome on a pilgrimage in November. Please also re-member him in prayer as it presents the Positio to the Congregation for Saints. The Positio is the story of Father Kapaun’s life. A positio, short for positio super virtu-tibus, or statement on heroic virtues, is a collection of documents used in the proc-ess by which a person is declared venerable.

Our Diocesan youth are looking to Fr. Kapaun, a Kansas farm boy, altar server, Priest, Chaplain, POW, person of good nature, self-sacrificing, forgiving, and heroic. All vir-tues, examples to follow. Parishioners are encouraged to join in prayer as they journey on this prayerful pilgrim-age. Please pray the Novena for the Beatification and Canonization of Fr. Kapaun starting on Nov. 2 and conclude on Nov. 10. November 2nd marks the 65th Anniver-sary of the Battle of Unsan, where Fr. Kapaun and his men were captured by the Chi-nese and North Korean troops. The novena leads up to Veteran’s Day.

NOVENA PRAYER FOR THE BEATIFICATION AND CANONIZATION OF FR. KAPAUN: Lord Jesus, in the midst of the folly of war, your servant, Chaplain Emil Kapaun,

spent himself in total service to you on the battlefields and in the prison camps of

Korea, until his death at the hands of his captors. We now ask you, Lord Jesus, if it

be your will, to make known to all the world the holiness of Chaplain Kapaun and

the glory of his complete sacrifice for you by signs of miracles and peace. In your

name, Lord, we ask, for you are the source of peace, the strength of our service to

others, and our final hope. Amen. Chaplain Kapaun, pray for us.
