USER CENTERED DESIGNAs a User Interaction / Experience Designer I like to arouse surprising experiences on the functional level in my designs in order to create the best user-product interaction.

I have a passion for the interaction of digital systems, such as apps and websites, with tangible products so called smart systems and what they can improve in people's everyday life. I think these products will overwhelm the future and putting up the user in front in this evolution is my priority.

My goal is to design these future products in the way that they fit to the user needs and context. A sustainable product is a product which people love to use.

In my portfolio the focus is set on the interactive aspect of products I designed. Enjoy the journey!

Mr Maroosh is a start-up shaving brand aspiring to create the perfect shave. The range of its products is still limited. Nevertheless the firm is slowly expanding its scope of accessories.

My role as designer in this journey to success is to advice the entrepreneurs on design related issues of the products. I also generate and visualize ideas for packaging, graphics and marketing possibilities. Together with the founders I search for the balance between high-end quality and affordability of products, targeting mister everyday.

Currently we have two types of natural shaving creams and a leather-sleeved shaving brush in our product range. Next stop is the adding of an aftershave to the Mr. Maroosh line and improving the current packaging.

SailSoap is born from a project focussed on the manufacturing process: blow moulding of plastics in this case polypropylene.

As an interaction designer my goal is to make a playful design of a packaging bottle of bath foam product. Children often play in bath with empty shampoo bottles. It makes bathing less boring and more attractive. The idea was to make a product with doubble function; a bottle and a toy. SailSoap transforms from bottle/packaging into a sailboat. This transformation is simply done by moving the sail from the upper surface and stick it in the deck. Et voila! The SailSoap is ready to front the bubbly waves.

The multiple audio sources to ear remote, a.k.a. MASTER, is a redesign of the wireless Bluetooth earphones of Sony-Ericsson. This project is focussed on user-experience, insights and tests.

There were many design and function issues in the existing model of earphones. The most annoying characteristic of the existing product is that it could not easily been linked to devices. A Bluetooth receiver had to be moved from device to device to make the connection between device and earphones. It takes to many different handlings to make connection, which makes it impossible to connect multiple devices to one pair of wireless earphones. The purpose of this redesign was to make it easier to link the wireless earphones to multiple portable media devices.

The final product of this redesign is a smart watch. This smart watch is linked with 4 different devices, also are the wireless earphones. It is easy to switch from audio devices by just twisting the screen of the watch. This is made possible by using the technology of Bluetooth 4.0.

The first phase of the project was acquiring problems users encountered using the old Sony-Ericsson earbuds.

Results#1: - Hard to make to connect- The feedback is not clear

with inquiries information about aesthetics and possible situation of use of wireless earbuds.

Results#2: - Situations: jogging, driving, walking the dog, working on the computer, cycling and travelling

Finally the question was: Where is it the most suitable to have this new product for the most comfortable use?

Results#374% on wrist 5% other place on body21% environment object

This intriguing symmetrical architectural structure is the modern information cen-tre for big cities around the world. I call it the Urban Beacon. This platform provides every answer to people s questions about the city where OASIS is located. This information can concern future plans for the city, events agenda, population statistics and much more. The idea behind OASIS is to provide a public access point to the latest information and live events in the metropolis.

The use and interaction of the structure are designed to be appealing, easily accessible, dynamic and entertaining. Moreover, OASIS enables different cities to communicate instantly with each other.

OASIS THE INTERACTIVE CITY HUB

Page 9: Olivier Deleye Portfolio

The Urban Beacon is designed to be attractive to all. It is not only meant to satisfy the needs of tourists, it is also meant to be appealing for locals. It is the right place to search for, for example; concert tickets, discounts for art exhibitions or reviews of good restaurants. On the other side of the structure, OASIS can be used as a place to hang out. The grass lounge in combination with the big 360 projection offers visitors the possibility to watch concerts, sports games and other live events. Rotterdam for example has a lot of annual events like the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, the North Sea Jazz Festival and the football KNVB Cup Final. OASIS is therefore the place to be for the convergence of social culture and entertainment in a metropolis.

The Interactive Touch Heart offers a 360 degrees touch screen where users can browse for information. This is the data heart of the city. Connected to every special place in town. Travellers and locals will not miss anything of the exciting life of the city.

The Grass Lounge and the 360 projection sphere offer a unique experience of watching live events in town on a panoramic screen. The 360 projection gives visitors the feeling to be submerged in the atmosphere of the actual event.

Feadship is a prestigious Dutch super yacht manufacturer known for the high quality of craftsmanship and finishing. The length of Feadship s vessels varies from 50 to 100+ meters. This case is about designing a future concept of a super yacht with a minimum length of 70 meters. The challenge is to rethink the whole concept of yachting by first tackling possibilities for new interactions on yachts and finally implement those in a new layout taking in consideration the future developments in luxury trends. The leading trend in this project is so called: stealth luxury: enjoying the quality of luxury goods without necessarily showing off. That is rather contradictory for a super yacht, which makes this project even more challenging.

AEDOS

The traditional layout is redesigned with a lower and symmetrical profile since the most frequently used spaces are located at the rear-middle part of the main deck and at the backside of the sun deck. The useless areas of the traditional yachts are removed to create a more functional layout. This new package allows blending more in the environment since the ship became less pretentious in its proportions. The symmetrical innate qualities do not cause any boundaries for the dynamics.

Page 11: Olivier Deleye Portfolio

The interaction is focussed on the main deck. The social area is situated in the middle of the vessel characterised by a vast open room with opening balconies and rooftop stimulating better social interactions. This space of leisure can be used for multiple purposes; events such as private parties, art exhibitions or even conferences.

Before being a status symbol, a super yacht should be a facility of complacency. The owner should be in relation with nature and bond with it. Therefore AEDOS is designed with a lot of openings to show as much of the environment. The water is also easily accessible. The opening doors partly submerge what makes it possible to step on and of the main deck to a tender or just to take a dive in waters of the most beautiful places on earth.

Nike Solescape is the embodiment of the new Nike stores shopping experience in the context of running shoes. This communication product provides information about running shoes to customers in an interactive way. Customers are engaged to try and fit running shoes in order to test and get acquainted with the characteristics and technology of Nike running shoes. The concept is an interactive floor, which people can interact with by taking different static standing and dynamic positions. The concept reacts on users’ movements and provides specific information according to the different actions.

Page 13: Olivier Deleye Portfolio

The concept’s principle consists of three general actions. 1 Model recognition, 2 User actions, 3 Feedback & Information. First the shoe is scanned to activate the model specific information. Secondly the user interacts with the system by taking different positions. (stand, stand on toes, jump etc.) Finally the system gives specific feedback and information according to the different positions the user takes. An example of the given information is illustrated in the INTERFACE area on the right side of this spread.
