This is the Val di Chiana, a particularly seductive countryside.Oliveto is located two kilometers from charming Cetona. Thevillage, with all the necessary services including tennis courts,is understated in tone, but with chic boutiques as well asseveral bars with open-air terraces for cooling refreshmentand two much-recommended eateries for the nights youwant to dine out. The large piazza is largely car-free for thosewith children who need to run or pedal a tricycle. Markets,pharmacy, bank with ATM and other services make it easy toenjoy an everyday Tuscan lifestyle close to home.

To explore Tuscany from Oliveto is easy, as the property iswell-situated for reaching both highway and train service toFlorence, Rome, Orvieto and Arezzo as well as other majorpoints of interest. For anyone with children, the train is highlyrecommended, as it is inherently more interesting than thecar. Montepulciano and Montalcino are perhaps the bestknown local towns, for their wine as much as theirarchitecture and cultural life. There are numerous additionalpoints of interest to explore; Pienza, San Quirico d'Orcia andBagno Vignoni are some of our favorites. The approach is on anarrow curving lane, cut into the terraced hillside of anextensive olive grove, opening to lawn, perennial beds andwell-placed trees enhancing both the house and the land.While only hundreds of meters from a well-paved road, itfeels removed by leagues. The villa sits across a hillside facingsoutheast, benefiting from undisturbed country vistas.

The sand-colored house, with its upright and square-shouldered style, is cradled by nature in both its gloriouslytamed and untamed states. Comprising Villa, Limonaia andCottage, Oliveto offers garden rooms thoughtfully furnishedfor lounging and dining in groups of various combinations.The spacious pergola accommodates dining and relaxing,particularly recommended at sunset to watch the light andcolors paint the view of Citta della Pieve across the valley.Below, a wide flat lawn spacious enough for playing ball landletting the children run and play until dinner is served.
