Work historyAs 4th and 3rd engineer I was responsible for one 24hour engine room watch one in every three days. This included planned and breakdown maintenance, regular logs, checking and record taking of all machinery. Responding to any alarms was part of the duty for the full 24 hour period until handing over the watch. As a 4th engineer, I was mainly responsible for boiler burners, gauge glasses, air compressors, water production, centrifugal separators for oils, coolers, engine room pumps, bilge pumping and records, sewage systems, engine room safety equipment and lifeboat maintenance . Assisting other officers I have maintained a wide range of other equipment also.

• Jul to Nov 2014 - 3rd Engineer on SS Bebatik. Responsible for maintenance of the steam turbine and diesel generators and cooling water quality. This ship was built in 1972, the engine room machinery was mostly of older design and mostly manual/local controls.

• Jan to Jun 2013 - 4th Engineer on Amali, a diesel electric, membrane type LNG carrier. She has four 6.6kV generators for propulsion and electrical load. A very new ship with highly computerised and sophisticated control systems.

• Oct to Nov 2012 - 4th Engineer on Galeomma preparing for scrapping. Jobs completed for towing included locking the main shaft, preparing the ballast pump, air compressors and diesel generator. Diving operations were ongoing required for the hull cleaning.

• May 2010 to Jul 2012 - 4th Engineer on Abadi, Gemmata and Gallina . I returned toGallina once more from November to May in 2014 totaling almost 23 months of sea time on these sister vessels

• Nov to Mar 2009 - Engineer Cadet on MV Ondina. A 34,110 SHP Oil tanker motor vessel with a 7 cylinder, 2 stroke slow speed diesel engine for propulsion. Three, 4 stroke medium speed diesel engines for electrical load and an auxiliary boiler.

• Jul to Dec 2007 - Engineer Cadet on Galea. First of the 'G class' of sister ships I sailed on with steam turbine propulsion and a two 60 Bar boilers burning MDO, HFO and boil off from the LNG cargo. My responsibilities as a cadet were to complete a portfolio covering the theory, operation and maintenance of the engine room machinery.

• 2006 - Experience working alongside production line machinery as picker, packer and with the preparation of products in factory environments after A-levels.

Awards and membership of professional bodies

• Member of Nautilus International union for maritime professionals.

• Safety Man of the month and assistant to the safety officer on board ship several times throughout career at sea.

• Attended Officer Conferences with Shell discussing company progress and safety.

Interests and hobbiesI do my own car maintenance where possible. I enjoy DIY - I've tiled and re-plumbed my bathroom, built a carport on the side of my house. I've built several computers and I am familiar with both Windows, Linux, networking and the hardware involved.
