OLD STITHIAN NEWSLETTER

OLD STITHIAN ASSOCIATION JUNE 2013

Message from the OSA Chair

Dear One & All

Once again, Founders’ Day was a resounding success as we took the time to Celebrate the schools’ 60th

Anniversary. As usual, the speakers where very insightful and reflected on the most important elements of

being part of a school like St Stithians College. It was the first address by the Chairperson of the School

Council, Carel Nolte, and he did the OSA proud as the first Alumni to Chair the School, a tradition we

hope will continue.

It was also a day where we held our AGM, to report back on another year where we continued to grow,

from times gone by when we scraped members and money together, 2012 saw an amazing shift. Not only

in the sign-up of new Members from the matriculating class of 2012, but also in our ability to donate over

R900 000 to the School for various projects. This coupled with the OSA being represented on all major

Committees across the Campus and sitting in Chairperson positions in many of them, shows the renewed

role the OSA is playing in shaping the future of the School.

However, we are always looking for more people to get involved in one way or another and if you

would like to help shape the future of the School and the Association, feel free to drop me a mail and we

can discuss the ways you can get involved.

You will see on our event list that the OSA Dinner and the OSA Golf Day are coming up and both

involve Meneer Piet Van Tonder. As this is his last year, we saw fit to get him as our Guest Speaker for

the OSA Dinner, as well as use the Golf Day to bid him farewell. Tickets for the Dinner are selling out fast

the Development Projects which we will be undertaking in the form of a Pavilion, new Fields under

lights and an Indoor Centre, all located around the Higher Ground. These projects will require time, effort

and money and if you would like to get involved, please feel free to get I touch with me and I will take you

through the planning.

As we all know, it has been a hard rugby season for the school, but with the work we are doing at the OSA,

through the Saints Supporter Club, the Junior Rugby Clinics and the Bursary Program, I believe we are on

the right track. If you look at the success of the u14 and u15 age groups, the future looks bright for Saints

Rugby. With only a few games left this year, and a home game against St Johns, on a Friday afternoon, it

seems like a great opportunity to get together and support the team that has given it their all this year.

However, it must be mentioned that the rest of the Sport across the Campus continues in an excellent

fashion, with Saints being in the top schools in the country in Waterpolo, Cricket, Hockey, Netball

and Rowing. Testament to the talent in the school and the coaching staff around them.

I look forward to seeing you at the Club Draw and some of the events in the future.

To Stephen Lowry, we wish him Farewell as he departs for a new challenge and thank him for his

service at our great School.

See you at Higher Ground.
