No one expected the flooding over the May 1st weekend. The damages to homes, families and business were crushing. We have all seen the pictures of cars piled on top of each other, houses and businesses drowned in water, and the great volunteer efforts of our fellow Nashvillians. What we haven’t seen or heard much about are reports from Opry Mills. You may have read about the false reports of piranhas swimming free, but no facts. Opry Mills not only has hundreds of businesses affected and thousands of workers put out of work, but our sister school, The Academy at Opry Mills, is stationed there as well. No one quite knows the extent of the damage to
The Academy at Opry Mills floods
the school, but early predictions are not good. Mr. Saunders, the principal at The Academy at Opry Mills, has said that most items have been “ruined.” The A+ teacher, Mr. Wiley, told me that some items “might be salvageable.” As of right now, school for The Academy at Opry Mills will be taking place in the media center at
McGavock High School. The staff at The Academy at Opry Mills appreciates McGavock’s efforts to assist the students so they can finish their graduation requirements. Graduation for The Academy at Opry Mills will be held at Bellshire Assembly of God - 1116 Darbytown Dr on May 26 at 10 AM.
