HEAD COACH RYAN HYBL

Ryan Hybl was named Oklahoma’s 13th head men’s golf coach on June 22, 2009.

Led the Sooners to the 2017 NCAA Championship, the second title in program history.

Has helped the Sooners to the NCAA Championships in each of the last seven seasons. OU is one of four programs to accomplish that feat.

Named the head coach of the United States team for the 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup.

Led OU to the 2016 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., where the Sooners qualified for the first time for match play competition, which was introduced to the championships in 2009.

Finished his first year at Oklahoma (2009-10) with seven straight top-10 results, including seventh place or better in five of those events.

Served as assistant coach at the University of Georgia (2005-09).

Played professionally while coaching at Georgia and logged several top-10 finishes before retiring in April 2009 due to a career-ending elbow injury.

Helped coach a Georgia program that racked up five straight top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championship. The Bulldogs won SEC crowns in 2006 and 2009, as well as an NCAA East Regional title in 2008.

One of the most decorated golfers in University of Georgia history, lettering from 2001-04 and twice garnering All-America and All-SEC honors.

Earned Georgia’s Joel Eaves Award as the male senior student-athlete with the highest grade-point average and the Dick Bestwick Award for the top GPA among graduating male seniors.

Arrived at Georgia as Golfweek’s No. 1-ranked junior golfer in the nation.

Was a tournament director for the AJGA following his college career.

He and his wife Rebecca are parents to two daughters (Adyline and Harper).

The younger brother of former OU quarterback Nate Hybl (2000-02).

SOONERS WIN NIKE GOLF COLLEGIATE INVITATIONAL

No. 7 Oklahoma men’s golf claimed its first team title of the season, winning the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational by three strokes on Oct. 22. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was held at the par-71, 7,017-yard Witch Hollow course at the Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore.

The first-place finish marks the 16th team title under ninth-year head coach Ryan Hybl. The Sooners fired a 276 (-8) in Tuesday’s final round to finish with a three-day total of 825 (-25).

Against a competitive field with seven top-25 teams, the victory marked OU’s sixth team title in the last three seasons. OU started the day off two shots behind Stanford, who finished with an overall 828 (-24), but passed the Cardinal with a strong finish on the back nine. Vanderbilt took third at 834 (-18), and Clemson placed fourth at 837 (-15). Florida finished fifth with a team total of 841 (-11).

Juniors Brad Dalke and Blaine Hale ended the tournament tied for seventh place to lead the Sooners individually. Both players recorded a three-round total of 205 (-8).

SUCCESS CONTINUES UNDER HYBL

In his nine seasons as OU’s head coach, Ryan Hybl has continually led the Sooners to success. Hybl’s teams have advanced to the past seven NCAA Championships, joining just Illinois, Texas and USC as the only programs to reach the national tournament for seven straight years.

Over the last two seasons, Hybl’s Sooners have won four tournaments: the Gopher Invitational (Sept. 2016), the Lone Star Invitational (March 2017), the NCAA Championships (May 2017) and the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 2017).

Overall, OU has 15 top-five finishes in its last 19 events, including seven within the top three.

HYBL SELECTED AS PALMER CUP COACH

University of Oklahoma men’s golf coach Ryan Hybl has been selected as the 2018 Palmer Cup men’s head coach for the U.S. team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Wednesday.

Hybl will become the first coach to lead the U.S. team after playing in the event as a collegiate athlete. OU’s head coach helped the U.S. team to a 15.5-8.5 victory over against Great Britain and Ireland during the 2002 Palmer Cup.

The annual Ryder Cup-style event will take place July 6-8 at Evian Resort Golf Club in Évian-les-Bains, France.

“I’m very excited, honored and truly humbled to have the chance to represent the United States,” Hybl said. “As a former player to participate in the event, it’s a special moment for me, our golf program and our university. Alongside our women’s team, we’re going to represent Mr. Palmer the best we can in France.”

Hybl led the Sooners to the 2017 NCAA Championship as four different players earned All-America status. The ninth-year head coach has guided the Sooners to the NCAA Championships in each of the past seven seasons, one of just four teams to accomplish that feat.

The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and began at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Orlando, Fla. in 1997. The event is a Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring the top male university/college golfers matching the United States against Europe. Hybl will serve as men’s coach alongside Ohio State’s Therese Hession.

CHIP SHOTS
