This is the time of year when cold fronts can alter

fishing from one day to the next. After a few cold nights the water temperatures have fallen into the low 60’s.

Speck fishing has been very steady; anglers are finding good numbers of fat specks in the river and the lake as well. Anglers are finding big numbers around the mouth of the river and up the river around the weir. Anglers fishing the lake are find-ing fish along the grass lines. Specks are being caught in the thick grass as well as the outside grass edges.

Bass fishing with arti-

ficial baits has slowed during the early morning, but once the sun warms the water the fish are becoming more active. Flipping and pitching is responsible for the larger bass being taken. The fish in many cases are less active and will not chase your bait. Some instances though will draw a reac-tion strike where the bait is moving quickly and the fish reacts out of instinct.

There are a large num-ber of visitors in town and boats are running everywhere. It is impor-tant to remember that Okeechobee is a huge lake, so it is not neces-sary to run close to an-other boat. Show respect for other anglers.

CALL TO ARTISTS!Okeechobee Main Street invites all artists to apply for

acceptance to the 2013 Top of the Lake Art Fest. The art fest will be held on February 9 and 10, 2013.

The art fest is a juried outdoor Fine Art Show that will take place in Flagler Park. The purpose of the Top of the Lake Art Fest is to bring talented fine artists to our community to showcase and sell their work. Highlights of the art fest

will be the Top of the Lake Chalk Walk (street painting) and the dedication of the 5th Okeechobee Main Street mural project. Entertainment, art demonstrations, children’s art

programs, a pet parade and food will also be featured on both days of the show.

There are 4 juried art categories:

Booth Artists Division - For artists with a body of work and individual tent set-up

APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 1, 2013

Chalk Walk Division – For artists who want to do street paint-ing with chalk on site during the Top of the Lake Art Fest.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: January 28, 2013.

Adult Division - Gallery Tent - For artists who want to show up to 3 pieces of art.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 6 & 7, 2013 Student Division - Gallery Tent - For young artist who want to

show up to 2 pieces of art. APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 6 & 7, 2013
