Low Power Data AcquisitionMany oil and gas production sites are located inremote areas not served by conventional electricpower plants. Solar power cells with batterybackup are a reliable and inexpensive alternativeto running electric power lines to these sites.

A Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) gathers sa ety, well integrity and per ormance data rom localinstrumentation or transmission to a centralmonitoring acility via microwave radio.

Flowline Header MonitoringAt satellite collection acilities, owlines rommultiple oil wells are ed into a common headerthat delivers product to an oil/water separator oron-site processing.

Satellite SeparatorPrior to storage, transportation and refning, water must be removed rom the oil/watermixture produced at the wellhead. Gravityoperated satellite separators are commonlyused. Located at a central collection site toservice multiple oil wells, the separator consistso a closed tank with two chambers separatedby a ba e extending partially up rom the bottomo the tank. The oil/water mixture ows intoa settling chamber where gravity causes theoil, water and any entrapped gas to separate.

The heavier water settles to the bottom o thischamber and the oil rises to the top. As the oillevel rises above the ba e, it spills over into thesecond chamber or pumping to a storage tank. The water is pumped out be ore it reaches thetop o the ba e and the gas is either ared orpiped away or processing.

This brochure is intended to provide suggestions or thegeneral application o certain types o instruments.Since each application has unique characteristics, it isrecommended that you consult SOR to discuss the

specifc details o your application to ensure the correct instrument is selected.

Oil and Gas Plant Description

Storage TanksOil and wastewater storage tanks are usuallylocated at remote oil feld collection sitesdownstream rom the satellite separator. Toprotect against tank over ow, redundant controlusing di erent technologies is commonly

required.Pump MonitoringPumps are incorporated in many processes tomove uids rom one location to another. Varyingin size, principle o operation and critical control

unction, their suction and discharge pressuresare commonly monitored to ensure system sa etyand per ormance.

CogenerationGas turbine generators are o ten installed atremote oil and gas production sites not servedby conventional electric power plants. Usingwaste hydrocarbon or production gas or uel,a jet turbine generates the power required tooperate pumps, compressors, valve operators, control circuits, etc., including those in thecogeneration package.
