HM ... Description4. Description

The oil-fired space heaters with chimney in the HM series heat medi-um-sized and large rooms which require heating that is either mobileor permanently installed. The heat generated by combustion is radiated via the metal surfacesof the combustion chamber with double smoke circulation and via theheat exchanger. This heats up the air in the room. The air flow channel is separated from the smoke channel and bothchannels are hermetically welded and sealed. After cooling down thecombustion products are channelled into an exhaust pipe which mustbe connected to a flue or chimney pipe. In this way, the exhaust fumesare expelled. The air required for the combustion procedure is drawn in directly fromthe room that is to be heated. Therefore, the room must be adequatelyventilated to achieve sufficient air circulation. The final part of the air outlet channel can be replaced with the follow-ing distributors:

* Distributor with 2/4 outlets; all outlet points must remain open.

* Distributor from "Plenum" with four side openings; the air flow canbe diverted in the right direction via an adjustable flap (Figure 1).

CautionDuring operation with a "Plenum" distributor, two of the four sides mustremain open to avoid overheating the combustion chamber.

Figure 1HM oil-fired space heaters with chimney can be used with diesel oilburners which operate in the ON-OFF mode.

CautionOnly use the approved burners supplied by the manufacturer. The CEmarking on the machine is no longer valid if the burner is replaced byone that is not approved, even if it has similar features.Burner operation is monitored by three safety devices which are acti-vated when there is a serious malfunction. The burner control unit stops operation if the flame goes out and is in-stalled on the burner housing and fitted with a restart button. The L2safety thermostat with manual locking device stops operation if thecombustion temperature exceeds the set limits (control lamp (9) lightsup). The RM thermo relay stops operation, if the power requirementsof the fan motor exceed the limit (control lamp (10) lights up).If one of these safety devices has been triggered, the cause of the mal-function must be found. Repair any damage before pressing the restartbutton and starting up the oil-fired space heater with chimney again("Malfunctions, causes, and remedies" on page 18).The L1 overheating contactor thermostat switches the machine off, ifthe air flow for cooling the combustion chamber is insufficient. The oil-fired space heater with chimney switches on again automatically assoon as the temperature has dropped below the safety limit (controllamp (9) lights up first and goes out again).

. 5.1.2 Connecting to the hot air discharge pipeThe oil-fired space heater with chimney is designed for operating withdirect air distribution. The air outlet plate can be replaced by a distributor with 2 or 4 outlets,if the warm air flow needs to go into pipes. In this case, remove theoriginal air outlet plate. Remove the screws that hold down the air out-let plate onto the housing of the oil-fired space heater with chimney.Mount the distribution part with 2 or 4 outlets. Alternatively, the air out-let plate can be replaced by the "Plenum" distributor (Figure 1). In thiscase, replace the original air outlet plate with the front plate and attachthe "Plenum" distributor to the above remaining angle profile. With the exception of "Plenum", the distributor parts can be connectedto the pipes with suitable diameters, if required for a particular purpose. As the vales for the airflow can vary, the following checks are alwaysnecessary if any changes have occurred in the distribution of warm air(changes in the length of pipe, amount of curves, etc.):

* Ensure that the power requirements of the fan motor do not exceedthe values given.

* Ensure that the air flow corresponds to the nominal air flow.

5.1.3 Connecting to the exhaust pipeThe exhaust pipes must be steel and conform to the EN 1443 stan-dard.Burner performance and proper burner operation depend on the flueflow. The connection to the flue must be in accordance with the regu-lations of the law in effect. Note the following regulations:

* The exhaust pipe must be as short as possible and face upwards.

* Avoid narrow bends and shortening diameters.

* A stack must be provided for each oil-fired space heater with chim-ney.

* The flue flow must correspond to the minimum value stated.

HM ... Operation. 5.1.4 Analyzing the combustion products

To check the composition of combustion products and the temperatureof the smoke, the probes seen in Figure 2 must be installed. After completing the checks, seal the hole for the probes with a mate-rial which will ensure the pipes are sealed even at high temperatures.

Figure 25.1.5 Setting combustion - initial start up

Once the sealing for the pipe connections and the smoke circulationhas been checked, the initial start up of the oil-fired space heater withchimney can take place. To set combustion correctly, analyze the com-bustion products using an appropriate measuring instrument and en-sure the values correspond to the valid guidelines.Take the settings from the burner operating manual. Each setting mustbe made after an inspection of the smoke composition. The CO2 levelsmust correspond to an excess air factor of approx. 1.2 (12.5 for dieseloil), and the CO level must be under 75 ppm.
