What is Roster Verification?

Video

Roster Verification is a process, done every spring, where teachers attribute their instructional influence on student academic progress and to receive teacher value-added reports.

The process includes:

Establishing a roster of students taught throughout the year.

Indicating the month(s) when students were in and out of the classroom.

Reporting the percentage of instruction for each student in a given subject.

Why Do We Verify Teacher Rosters?

Involving principals and teachers in the process helps to ensure the most accurate teacher-student associations are captured transparently.

By understanding the data that goes into the Roster Verification system, teachers and principals have more confidence and trust the information truly reflect his/her classroom student during the school year.

Who is Participating?

2007–2011: SOAR collaborative districts

2012: Ohio RttT (about 60% of the state)

2013: All Ohio Districts

Principal Responsibilities

Establish a support team

Check that the correct teachers and classes are listed

Monitor system to ensure that staff are completing their Roster Verification successfully

Review and approve completed teacher rosters

Teacher Responsibilities

Make certain all students taught during the year are included on class rosters, and modify rosters by adding/deleting students where necessary.

Indicate class enrollment each month by capturing student entry and exit.

Use district business roles to set percentage of instruction provided to each student.

Submit class rosters for principal’s review and approval.

Think Roster Verification Now! Checklist: Our staff understands the purpose and who is involved.

Our building administrators understand what is expected of them.

Our principals have communicated the expectations of their teachers.

We have established protocols for determining instructional percentages for co-teaching arrangements.

We have established local policy that adheres to state policy/guidance on the Roster Verification Process.

We have communicated local policy and processes to building administrators and teachers.

We will send key staff to a regional training in the winter and spring.

Our principals have set up training and support opportunities for teachers during the Teacher Roster Verification window in April/May.
