A new year dawns as we welcome in 2015! One thing I am always certain of - working here will NEVER be dull or uneventful! We launch the New Year with our annual decal process and the biennial age survey. Both of these requirements are a function of the age restriction and the controlled access of your community! Each year we try to streamline this process as much as possible. These two items were mailed out together to save on postage and minimize your time to provide the necessary docu-mentation for registration requirements. Please take a moment to return the info in a timely manner so we can complete the process and keep everyone in compliance. Additional mailing and follow-up costs you money, so we hope we can get your compliance on the first attempt!

Decals will be issued by the Front Gate, as usual, begin-ning on January 19th through February 9th. The age sur-vey can be dropped off at the HOA office.

Construction continues to progress at the Clubhouse. Rain created some delay in the work but was a very wel-come intruder! The walkway area at the front of the Club-house will be impacted for the next two months as we remove the front walkway and continue the trenching. Barriers will be installed to help provide some protection for pedestrians who will need to share the driveway area under the portico. The Board has approved resurfacing of the pool when the coping is replaced. This work can be done to prevent further down time, so when the pool is re-opened, it will be pristine and ready for service!

A final open CC&R Committee Meeting was held in December in advance of the ballot mail-out. Lunch was served to the attendees as the most recent changes were reviewed. The CC&R Committee, led by Don Lopez, has done a phenomenal job of working through the docu-ment, the Resident’s feedback and the many re-writes to bring a document to the Owners for a vote! I hope every-one will exercise their right to vote and return their bal-lot quickly.

Abravanel Hall will finally be getting a much-needed renovation to the wall covering and carpet starting right after Do Dues Day, the week of January 5th! While the work is in progress, we will also be cleaning up some of the cables in the Audio Visual Booth and looking at the cost to add storage under the booth for tables. The Hall will reopen by the end of February and will feature the addition of a hearing aide loop to help facilitate better sound for those who are hearing-impaired.

Some added asphalt work will be done along Leisure Village Way in the vicinity of Agora and Collinos. The concrete apron at the intersection will also be replaced and traffic will be routed around this during the work. We don’t have a start date yet, but a notice will go out in ad-vance and there shouldn’t be any disruption to the trash pick-up this time around!

The Budget Meeting is set for February 2, 2015 and a flyer will go out to remind you! I am working with the Budget Committee now to finalize the draft to present.

PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE A CHANGE TO THE JANUARY MEETING SCHEDULE!!! The 1st Session on Monday will be the usual start time of 10 am. However the 2nd Session will be moved from Thursday to Friday January 16th, start time 1pm. Please plan accordingly!

SAVE THOUSANDS:

By Angela TakemotoPresident, Board of Directors

Hello everyone! Here’s to a wonderful 2015, filled with joy, health and good friends!

I’d like to begin with an update on the pool project—and bear in mind, I’m writing this on Dec 20, so by the time you read it in early January, there will have been more progress. In spite of the rain we’ve had, the con-struction team has been able to keep going. The trench around the clubhouse, for the new drainage system, is al-most complete.

You remember early last year I made a presentation about the complexities of this project, and mentioned that we were not able to locate the exiting gas line? Well, in the course of excavation, we found it! And it is seri-ously in conflict with current building codes. The ma-terial used is incorrect, and the line is not buried deep enough below the surface. The entire gas line needs to be replaced, starting at the gas meter!

Another thing I mentioned in that presentation was the thought that we might consider resurfacing the pool and spa while this project was underway. After extensive review and discussion with our pool resurfacing contrac-tor, PS2000, it was agreed that the process of removing and replacing the pool coping would likely damage both the tiles and the fiberglass coating on the surface of the pool. This would affect the integrity of the seal that is necessary between the pool surface and the fiberglass lining. So, it was agreed by the Board that we would re-quest a change order to accomplish the complete resur-facing of the pool and spa, along with replacement of all tile markers, skimmers, replace lights that are damaged, and replace the handrails. Part of this work is currently included in the Good & Roberts contract, so the Board

has requested that Good & Roberts contract with PS2000 to get the additional work done. A change order will be presented for approval as soon as it is ready.

And, by the time we meet for next month’s Board meeting, the work in Abravanel Hall will be well under way! That will clearly cause more inconveniences for us all, but I ask just for your patience and understanding. This Board is getting some stuff done that has needed to be done for a very long time, and once it’s finished I think we’ll all be pleased with the results.

Also, now is the time for re-appointing Standing Com-mittee members. Please consider serving on one of our Standing Committees. The work is very interesting, and doesn’t take an enormous amount of your time. We need to see your applications by January 9th.

Finally, I ask everyone to look for the Ballot for the CC&R Restatement in their mail. The ballots will be mailed on January 15, and our election, or counting of the ballots, will take place on March 2. Review the doc-uments carefully, come to your own personal conclusion, and please, do take the time to VOTE!

So, now I’ll report on the actions taken at the Decem-ber Board meeting:

We approved the consent calendar item, to approve meeting minutes, and to approve appointment of Robert Smith to the Board, and appointment of Linda Strohm to

the position of Secretary, as a result of the resignation of Shirlee Sampsell.

Then we heard a report from the 30th Anniversary Committee, from co-Chairs Ellen Baur and Judy Harris. They reported on all the various activities and events that were sponsored by the Committee over the course of the past year, and told us that there was no expense to the Association for this; rather, the account was in sur-plus by several thousand dollars! In appreciation of their efforts, the Board presented engraved awards to both El-len and Judy. Thank you Ellen and Judy for your lead-ership, and thank you to the entire Committee for your work throughout the year!

Next Vice President Don Lopez gave a report from the CC&R Ad Hoc Committee. He reported that after more input from Homeowners, the Committee recommended additional changes, which will be presented to the Board for final approval. Also he reminded everyone of the workshop to be held the following day, Tuesday Decem-ber 16, to review all the final changes.

Next we conducted a hearing where a homeowner was appealing a decision by ARC. The Board voted to deny the appeal.

When we reconvened on Thursday, we approved a rec-ommendation from the Landscape Committee regarding homeowner requests for tree work.

Then we dealt with the formalities to accomplish the

election for the CC&R Restatement. The Board approved the following timeline:

The date of record of ownership is January 12, 2015. The Ballots will be mailed on January 15, and the Ballot count will be March 2. The Board also appointed Penny Walsh as Chief Inspector of Elections, and Pam Johnson and Bill McCain as Inspectors of Elections. Thanks, Pen-ny, Pam and Bill, for volunteering your time to support this very important process.

Next we approved the contract with California Elec-tions Company to tabulate the ballots. The contract is in an amount not to exceed $5,591.

On Monday December 15, immediately following the Regular Board Meeting, the Board met in Executive Ses-sion. Items discussed were:

Third party contracts, personnel, legal opinions, po-tential litigation, member disciplinary action, delinquen-cy review, executive committee reports, and approval of minutes of prior executive sessions.

The following contracts were approved at that meet-ing:

Approval of two change orders related to the Pool Deck and Palm Court renovation. One, to approve remov-al and disposal of the palm trees in the Palm Court, rath-er than trying to transplant them. It was determined that they are too large for the spaces they were destined for, and so new trees will be provided, with an equivalent

Street sweeping is done on the first Tues-day of every month. Be sure your cars are off the street by 8:00 a.m.!

The decaling process will be taking place January 19 through February 6, 2015. Each vehicle registered in OHCC must have a cur-rent year decal on the windshield. You will receive a letter with instructions as to where and when the decaling will take place. Watch closely for the letter!

Please remember to lock all your doors and windows, and to keep your garage door closed at all times.

Recreational Vehicle Registration is done at the HOA Office. All paperwork will be completed here and you will be assigned a ‘spot’ as one comes available for your size rig.

The OHCC website has many conveniences and we will highlight one a month for you. As most of you are aware, there is a Resi-dent-recommended vendor listing on the website. By popular demand, the Reference list will be placed back under the Services tab. It will be named, ‘Vendor List’ for easy identification.

If you are moving, either out of or with-in OHCC, please complete the Moving Form (available in this publication) and bring it in to the HOA Office. It is mandatory, and in your best interest, that the HOA main-tain current records of our residents, for ex-ample, vehicle information including decals and transponders. It also makes a differ-ence when you authorize visitors and guests to come to your home. If you have had ANY changes in your status, please contact the HOA office.

We have become aware that a number of people in OHCC are converting from Cox to ATT Uverse. Please keep in mind that if you switch to ATT, the modem will make the Emergency Monitoring System in your home inoperable. If you have questions, please call Len Wenstein, Community Patrol Services Director at 760-758-7111.

“brown trunk length.” The change order is in the amount of $3,321.

The second change order is related to the gas line, which I discussed at the beginning of my message. The work involves a complete replacement of the gas line, from the meter to the pool equipment area. The amount of this change order is $28,636. Yes, it’s a lot, but we have no choice.

On to non-pool business, we approved the specifica-tions from Atlas Tree Service for tree work on Common Area Trees. You remember we adopted a new approach to tree assessment this year, having all trees assessed an-nually. Ron Matranga, our Registered Consulting Arbor-ist, performed the assessment, and has produced a report showing individual trees in the community that require removal or pruning. Of the 2745 trees in the Common Area, he recommends removing 47 trees, and pruning 414 trees. The specifications he produced will now be used in the bid process to get the work done.

We also approved a proposal from Zellers Plageman to update our irrigation maps as well as the Irrigation Mas-ter Plan which Van Dyke recently completed. This will provide information related to sprinkler numbers and lo-cations, as well as other updates which will assist in man-agement of our irrigation system. The contract is in an amount not to exceed $33,000.

We approved two proposals from TLG Paving. One is to repair cement curbs on Leisure Village Way, in an amount not to exceed $17,359, and the other to replace a section of asphalt that has deteriorated. The amount is not to exceed $17,481. These items were not part of the original scope of work for asphalt.

A note regarding the schedule for Board meetings for the next two months:

The January meeting will be held on Monday January 12 at 10am and Friday January 16 at 1pm, in the Myko-nos Room.

Our February meeting will be one day only, due to the President’s Day Holiday, and will be held on Thursday February 19, at 10am. There will be no Staff or Commit-tee reports.

landscape committeeBy Linda Wass and Debbie McCain, IPM Subcommittee

The Landscape Committee met on December 5 in the HOA Conference room. Special guests that attended were Mitch Phillippe from Van Dyke Landscape and Jim Vienneau, President of O’Connell Landscape. The Agen-da focused on turf replacement. In October, the Mas-ter Board approved a request from the Landscape Com-mittee “to meet with Van Dyke Landscape Architects to identify available incentives and options to apply for turf removal…” While the latest series of storms have provid-ed significant rain fall, it is only a “drop in the bucket” (pardon the pun!) of what our needs are. Tom Hogan re-ports that since the first of December we have had over 3 inches of rain here at OHCC. That will certainly reduce the water cost for these months, but we must make plans for more efficient use of our water in the years to come. Evaluating areas for turf replacement is the beginning of that process. There are seven large areas of turf totaling 242,640 sq. ft. that might be a candidate for turf replace-ment. At this time, rebates for turf replacement run from $1.92 to $3.40 per sq. ft. But before any changes can be made, there are many considerations that must be taken into account when planning for changing turf to plant-

ings that requires less water such as: the use of reclaimed water, plant selections, irrigation systems, maintenance, and IPM issues, just to name a few.

To start the planning for these possible changes, Mitch will work with Jim V. to draft conceptual plans for one or more of these areas. It was agreed that O’Connell would be able to work with the conceptual plans developed by Van Dyke and it would not be necessary to have Van Dyke do detailed drawings. The conceptual plans would in-clude sketches and plant lists. We are looking forward to working on this project. More information will be avail-able at the February meeting.

REMEMBER, if you are interested in being on the Landscape Committee, please submit your application. You can complete the application on line at the OHCC web site, or print it out and turn in to the HOA. You can also obtain a form from the HOA Office. There are in-teresting times ahead for the Landscape Committee, so please consider joining our group.

The next meeting will be on January 2, 2015 at 10:00a.m. in the HOA conference room.

Happy New Year!

safety cornerBy Leonard Weinstein,Director of Community Patrol Service (CPS)

Hello residents of Ocean Hills Country Club. A Healthy and a Happy New Year to all!

It’s that time of year again; our annual vehicle registra-tion/decaling and resident information project will be con-ducted from January 19 through February 6, beginning at 9 am and ending at 5 pm, Mondays through Fridays, weather permitting. You should be receiving, if you haven’t already, a letter addressing details for the program. Any questions should be addressed to your Community Patrol staff at the Cannon Road (front gate) gate, 760-758-7111.

Please remember, the San Diego Gas & Electric Company recommends you have a yearly inspection of your gas appli-ances such as your furnace and water heater. SDG&E will per-form free appliance safety checks. Call 800-411-7343 or go to the SDG&E website (sdge.com) to schedule an appointment.

Your Emergency Monitoring System (EMS) is an integral part of maintaining your safety and wellbeing in OHCC. CPS staff will begin scheduling system testing appointments this month. The actual test only requires between five and ten minutes. Your cooperation in scheduling the appointment would be appreciated. Please keep in mind, your time for this testing appointment is a “small price to pay” should you have an emergency and need assistance.

As safe as our community may be, please remember to secure your home when leaving. Unlocked and/or open win-dows and doors offer an opportunity for someone to enter your home causing loss of property. I’ve restated this again as we continue to find homes where the resident has not se-cured their home when leaving.

Personal Preparedness Tip: Establish an out-of-state phone contact to help reach separated family members.

SHOULD YOU NEED ASSISTANCE, THE FRONT GATE TELEPHONE NUMBER IS 760-758-7111.

PLEASE INPUT YOUR GUESTS IN THE DWELLINGLIVE SYSTEM SO THEY DON’T HAVE

TO WAIT AT THE GATE WHILE WE CALL YOU.

Be SAFE, Be SMART, and most of all, BE HAPPY. Once again, thanks for your time and thanks for reading The Safe-ty Corner.

30th anniversary reportOur 30th Anniversary celebrations are over. The 30th An-

niversary Committee has worked on this project for a full two years, and we can report that 2014 was a great year for Ocean Hills Country Club! Words such as “fun” “success” “gratification” and “community spirit” come to mind!

Our 30th Anniversary year events were amazing:“The Curious Savage”, our 30th Anniversary Play, was

terrific thanks to the producers, cast, director, stage crew and our wonderful AV Team!

“The Village Olympics” were perfectly orchestrated, and the teams of enthusiastic athletes competed in 9 sports!

Our participation in “The Oceanside Freedom Parade” brought us recognition outside our own gates and a good time was had by all!

Our grand finale on November 8th, “The Arts & Crafts Fair and Open House” was a huge undertaking and a phe-nomenal success for resident vendors and volunteers as well as those who came in droves to buy, gawk, nosh, imbibe, so-cialize, enjoy the musical showcase and the professional dance extravaganza and to kick up their heels and dance the night away!

We are extremely proud of “The 30th Anniversary Com-memorative Book”! Many kudos and compliments have been received!

Nine of our great social clubs sponsored “The 30th of the

Month Events”: Travel, Theatre Arts, Garden, Pet Lovers, Art Lovers, Doo Wop, Village Squares, Sailing, and Bocce!

Our heartfelt thanks go to all of our resident volunteers, our wonderful Clubhouse and HOA Staff, the Community Patrol, our terrific 30th Anniversary Committee: Judy Bu-oniconti, Karen Canfield, Patty Coffey, Christy Cooper, Ed Farley, David Fitzwilliam, Kaye Preston, Patti Smith and the fabulous Chris Bessey and Louise Ries, both joys to work with, and to our 30 very generous sponsors, our great Mas-ter Board for their support and encouragement, and, last but not least, all of you who participated in all of the events!

And now for the really good news: the 30th Anniversa-ry year cost OHCC nothing! We are firmly in the BLACK! In fact, although we do not have the final accounting down to the penny, as yet, we know that we have a profit of several thousand dollars! The 30th Anniversary Committee will be meeting to determine how that money should be spent. It will, of course, be for a gift to our community!

We wish you all fond memories of 2014 and a great 2015 with good health and fun times!

Recreation News

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your galance, you must keep moving.”

— Albert Einstein

Happy New Year Everyone! Whew, we have finally have a bit of reprieve from the exciting holiday schedule. Do Dues Day is here on Saturday, January 3. Then, in the next week the work will begin in Abravanel Hall and the Recreation Department has planned to make it a somewhat easy transition as we move activities to other locations throughout the Clubhouse. With the closing of the Hall, the spillage will move to the Mykonos room. And if that is not large enough, the Clubs have agreed to forgo their regular programming and look to March to start back up. There will be square dancing in the Galleria, along with various card groups. This has been a cooperative effort and it has certainly been appreciated.

During the heavy rains, there was a pool of water that collected where the Palm Court is located. Residents thought that a new pool was in the plans. But that notion was quickly addressed and it was said that we were starting a new club “Mudwrestling Madness.” There were not volunteers and the water slowly evaporated, so the renovation continues.

The Mall Trip Schedule for 2015 has posted and a new schedule can be picked up in the racks at the Clubhouse. The OHCC bus currently schedules services to the Carlsbad Mall every Tuesday with expected arrival time at 10:15am. Most early morning shows are scheduled to start anytime between 10:30am and 11:00am. Based on the average ShowTime of 2 hours, a possible fun day could conceivably be planned with arrival at 10:15am, movie from 10:45 to 12:45, lunch from 12:45 to 1:45, shopping from 1:45pm to 3:00pm and a return trip home at about 3:OO pm. If interested, please contact the Front Desk and if they receive a sufficient number of requests, such a social adventure could be scheduled on a trial basis.

The Community Service Committee has been looking at options for consideration for a campus wide recycling program. The basis of any new process is to inform and educate. In this issue they have included a

flyer informing the community of what products can be recycled for the weekly trash pick-up. Some of which comes as a surprise, for instance: paper towels, tissue and Styrofoam. They are not to be disposed in the recycling container. Please review the enclosed flyer, become informed, as we move forward on this project, with the help of the City of Oceanside. The goal is to put a program in place incorporating the Clubhouse, the HOA offices, the Guard Houses, and the Maintenance Building.

The Lost and Found collection is accumulating, with the colder weather we seem to have an abundance of sweaters. Please come to the Clubhouse when an item is lost or found. Community Patrol Services find items throughout the Village and they bring them to the desk. They recently turned in a remote control for a television, isn’t someone missing this? If so, we have it in our collection.

The Recreation Department is holding an early morning social occasion on Wednesday, January 28, from 8 am-10 am with donuts and coffee. We’d like to take the opportunity to encourage socialization during the renovation, so please come join us to kibitz and get-together for the free “Donut Demolition!”

We are looking forward to a fresh and exciting New Year. There are some wonderful programs coming on the horizon including OHSPA’s performance “The Texas Tenors,” the Can-Do Club’s “Follies” performance, the Theater Arts Club’s comedy/drama “Daddy’s Dyin: Who’s Got the Will” and the Garden Club’s 25th Anniversary Flower Show. It is such a pleasure to be part of a community that thrives on activity, which promotes goodwill and appreciates the volunteers that contribute their time every hour of each day. Now, let’s begin to celebrate 2015!

a thank you Fromthe woodchucks

The Woodchucks wish to thank all the residents that so generously donated gifts for the kids at Camp Pendle-ton. Once again it has been a banner year.

It is also very interesting as to what happens to the toys when they leave OHCC. At Pendleton, the toys are delivered to the Y.M.C.A. collection building. They are then put on display and, here is where it gets interest-ing. Usually, you would imagine hundreds of kids grab-bing at everything they see and want but that is not how it happens. Efficiency is the key word as to what really happens.

Parents have made time appointments to come for toys and without their kids. The parents are given a large bag and are escorted through the building after being told the amount of toys they may select. The toys are then taken home to be given out at Christmas. It’s beautiful to watch.

Retired Col. Brown manages the Y.M.C.A. and is one of the nicest people you would ever meet. He also ar-ranges airplane reservations, therapy, trips and what-ever else is needed for our wounded warriors. He is one busy person and his staff is just as nice.

Now you all know why the Woodchucks are so intense about making the toy drive successful every year and really wish to thank all of you who help make it so suc-cessful.

anGlers cluB Tuesday, November 11, the last meeting of the year, was a special dinner meeting enjoyed by

39 members and guests at the Cambridge Restaurant Vis-ta. This meeting celebrated the 2014 year, recognized and thanked our Club officers for their dedication and hard work this past year. The 2015 officers are: President, Len

Holness; Vice President, Jim Wills; Secretary, Mike Calig-iuri; Treasurer, Bob White; and Charter Master, Sam Cor-deiro. We had a great time, enjoyed an excellent dinner, and had good fellowship. A summary DVD of the 2014 year showing the good times, fellowship and, at times good fishing, was enjoyed by all in attendance.

Jean Hefler, Lee Lady, Judy White, Bonnie Yoder, Joan Buchholz, and Meddy Carso won gift certificates to lo-cal restaurants in the drawing. In the big end of the year tackle drawing, Cass Teele won a rod and reel, Dennis Lady and Tom Roy, Daiwa reels, Fred Campbell a Calstar rod, and Tom Whyte a Penn two speed reel.

If you enjoy ocean fishing, good fun and fellowship, please join the Anglers Club for 2015 on Do Dues Day on January 3, or you can stop by the Front Desk in the Club-house and deposit your check for $10 and join now, avoid-ing the rush on Do Dues Day. At our January 13 Club meeting we will share a summary DVD of the 2014 year, the calendar of events for fishing and social events for the year. If you have any questions, feel free to call Presi-dent Len Holness at 760-941-8857.

Single per-sons are welcome as we encourage our experienced danc-ers to attend and interact with participants. Lessons are open to all residents and, for January, lessons will be in the Mykonos Room as follows:

• January 7 and 14 and 28: Beginners at 2:30 pm and Intermediate dancers at 3:15 pm.

• January 21: Cancelled due to unavailability of a room

Members are notified by e-mail of any changes to the schedule.

Monday Dance Lessons and Workshops: These lessons and workshops are every Monday and open to all OHCC residents. Sessions give participants a chance to learn new dances and/or advanced levels in core dances. We’ll generally alternate between professional instruction (at-tendees pay a small fee per lesson) for a number of weeks and then in-house directed review workshops (no cost). In early December, we concluded our (paid) profession-al instruction in the Night Club Two-Step. At this time, no professional instruction is planned so we will start the year off with a (no cost) review session. Classes will be ev-ery Monday from 4 to 5 pm and, for January, will be in the Mykonos Room. Members will be notified by e-mail with current information.

January’s meeting has been changed to Tuesday, Janu-ary 27 at 1 pm in the Mykonos Room. There is a fascinat-ing program planned for this meeting. Sophia Fang, the featured speaker, will discuss the splendors of tradition-al Chinese culture including the arts, medicine, and ma-jor historical events. She will also show video clips of the highly acclaimed Shen Yu music and dance troupe. Shen Yu brings 5,000 years of Chinese traditional culture to life through its music and choreography. The troupe will be performing locally from February 18 to 22 at the Cali-fornia Center for the Arts in Escondido.

Plan to attend our January meeting and, if you can, go to a performance of Shen Yu.

women’s drop-ins, tournaments and exhibitions. Pick up a copy in the Billiards Room or at the table on Do Dues Day, January 3. Members and non-members are welcome to attend our first two events:

1. At 11 am on Thursday, January 8 we will have an Open House to introduce everyone to the Billiards Room. Come down to see the tables and learn the right way to use and care for them.

2. At 2 pm on Wednesday, January 14 come to Basic Lesson #1: “How to Talk a Good Game, and Look like You Know What You’re Doing.” Yes, you can look and sound like a pro, even if you can’t sink a ball! The lesson will also instruct you on room and game etiquette.

BirDwatchers cluBWelcome new and returning members. Come to our first meeting TUESDAY, JANUARY 27,

1 pm in the Ladies Club Room. Socializing and refresh-ments begin at

12:30 pm. Compare notes with one another about your birding experiences, share what best to feed birds, types of feeders, and learn about the year’s bird walks, and find out how our Bluebird program is going. Following the business meeting, the “Chicks” will come by with a few songs to help celebrate the new year of birding and An-dy’s reign of 15 years as Club President.

The bird walk this month will be TUESDAY, JANU-ARY 13. We will go to Dos Picos Park, Ramona Grasslands, and Pamo Valley in Ramona. There will be less walking as we drive from place to place. Dos Picos Park will be our first stop to use the restroom facilities. Meet at the overflow parking lot for DEPARTURE AT 8 am. At the lot, you will receive directions and form carpools. Wear sturdy shoes, have a hat, bring water and a few bucks to help out the driver. Bring a walking stick if usually used. There will be binoculars to borrow if needed. A lunch ven-ue will be selected in Ramona. Plan to return to OHCC later than usual.

Dos Picos County Park has a $3 parking fee also re-quested in other county parks. However, a free, lifetime Senior/Disabled parking pass is available for SD County residents over the age of 62. The pass can be obtained at a county park Ranger’s office in a park or mailed to you by calling 877-565-3600 (parks office). We will be visiting other county parks this year.

The Ramona Grasslands is a club favorite to see a wide variety of birds of prey, such as the wintering Fer-ruginous hawk, White-tailed kite, Northern harrier, Prai-rie falcon, Bald eagle, among others. Other highlights possible are Mountain bluebirds, Burrowing owl, West-ern meadowlark, and Tri-colored blackbird. The scen-ery in Pamo Valley is spectacular with 4,000 ft. mountain peaks and vistas reminiscent of homesteader ranches in the 1860’s. The Golden eagle, Lewis’s woodpecker, a large flock of wild turkeys, and a bobcat have been seen in the Valley. If there is a change, members will be notified by email. For questions call Joan Comito at 760-940-8513.

BocceHappy New Year boys and girls! I can’t believe how strange it is to type 2015 when it seems

like 2014 just began. Time keeps rushing on while I am sitting still.

Well the weather has finally changed. While I was waiting for a rainless winter it unfortunately changed right in the beginning of our latest tournament. Without a word of warning, boom, here comes the rain. So far two days have been delayed and who know how many more?

One thing we know is that our Holiday party wasn’t called off for rain. Everything went off as planned, com-plete with the introduction of our new officers, Santa Claus and all the dancing and eating you could imagine.

Come on out on the Bocce Court and get rid of all you inhibitions. Yes, we are really there, just behind the fence. It takes a little work to find us but it is worth it.

November bocces were as follows: 4 bocces – Bill Cur-tin and Forest Newburg; 2 bocces – Gordon Bishop, Bar-bara Kaiser, Peggy Newburg, Craig Powers, Virginia Sack-ett; 1 bocce - Bill Baker, Paul Feinberg, Joe Forman, Bob Mayer, Karen Obermiller, Gloria Roberts, and Jerry St. James. Congratulations to one and all and keep those bocce balls rolling.

BriDGe FriDay DuPlicateOur Friday Duplicate Bridge Game was held November 18. Unfortunately the scores could

not be posted. On November 29, North/South First Place Winners were Witold Modlinski and Mary Lou Buer with 57.50%. East/West First Place Winners were Lauretta Hartzell and Gina Stier with 58.50%. Congratulations Players!

Our Holiday Party was held at Shadowridge Country Club on December 12. Thank you Anne for making all the arrangements. A fun time was had by all!

OH, FOLLIES! Is returning in 2015! Under the capa-ble direction of our very own Kate Butler, this - our only open-to-everybody annual talent show and largest fund-raiser for the community - will celebrate its sixth year in the spring. And they simply cannot do it alone!

GOT TALENT? Our production team seeks dancers, actors, singers, plate-spinners, magicians, comics and all other entertainers in addition to publicists, ticket sellers, ushers and stagehands to make this one-show-only a mag-ical evening in Abravanel Hall. And all you have to do is volunteer and show up for planning and rehearsals.

BUT NO TIME? You’re in luck! Kate holds an organi-zational meeting in January (to see who will be perform-ing what), then the team goes back to the writing room to create an ideal storyline to connect the acts. They hold only two rehearsals and one show! All admins and help-ers will meet occasionally to plan/assign their tasks.

BACKGROUND: FOLLIES! began out of necessity in 2010, and has since grown to be produced with inten-tion and a year’s worth of planning, involving more than 60 residents each year in a lively show with a story line, props and sets to keep the audience amused. They have (in the past) offered only one performance, followed by an inspired champagne cast party for all involved.

The first five years of FOLLIES! followed the antics of Thelma and Louise, our very own emcees/stars of the show, and all shows were written by the very creative Lyn Asaro. In 2015 we move on to a new writer, Don Sanelli, and a new direction. All things are possible!

Known as a “Noble and Absurd Undertaking,” OH, FOLLIES! provides great merriment, uncovers new tal-

while 80-100 are outstanding. Also, please check the re-cently update Coming Attractions Bulletin Board posted outside the Men’s Clubroom for reserved films that are in theaters but not yet available in DVD.

MIDWEEK FILMS: Critically acclaimed contem-porary and recent past Foreign Films are shown every Wednesday at 7 pm. Seating is on a first come, first served basis and guests of residents are always welcome. This is in addition to the normally scheduled Foreign Films usu-ally shown on alternating Fridays 3 times per day. Poten-tial choices are to be found on the Coming Attractions Bulletin Board.

FOREIGN FILM CLASSICS: Scheduled on Monday, January 19 at 1 pm by the Foreign Film Classic Group is the 1982 German film classic “Fitzcarraldo” (79) one of the most difficult films ever made without special ef-fects concerning transporting a steamship over a Peruvi-an mountain and building an opera house in the jungle.

MUSICAL FINE ARTS: The next Musical Fine Arts program is scheduled for Saturday, January 10, at 10 am when the Metopera’s production of Tchaikovsky’s “Eu-gene Onegin” will be presented featuring Renee Flem-ing.

If you are interested in joining either the Foreign Film Classic or Musical Fine Arts Group or in just attending

one of the special programs mentioned above, please con-tact the writer since seating is limited. Joining would en-title you to automatically receive a monthly invitation or reminder and an annual program. Frank Petronella 760-414-9070 [email protected]

GarDen cluBHappy New Year and a huge thanks to all who helped make the Holiday Home Tour and Hol-iday Luncheon such a success. We hope the

Please become a member of the Garden Club and join us for a great year full of interesting presentations, produc-tive workshops, and events for the entire community.

Attention members #2! Read your Garden Club emails because Ellen Nelson, Outside Tour Chair, hopes to orga-nize a trip in February to tour the San Diego Botanic Gar-den. Stay posted for more information about this trip.

Attention members #3! If all the Clubhouse remodel-ing is complete, the first general meeting of 2015 will be held on Wednesday, March 11. Marcia Van Loy, our guest speaker, will help us discover the joy of growing a hum-mingbird and butterfly friendly garden. Master Gardener Van Loy will lead us through the steps to create a beauti-ful, healthy, and thriving nature wonderland.

At the April meeting, Bob Wong will entertain us by creating glorious floral arrangements. We hope Bob will raffle off his creations with the agreement that the win-ners bring back his containers sporting new floral ar-rangements to be on display at the Garden Club’s 25th Anniversary Celebration/Flower Show. This Village-wide event will be held on Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24. Volunteers will be needed for this big event, so please consider donating your time and talent to make this cel-

ebration a big success. Finally, I want to thank my faithful readers for reading

my musings for the past two years. And I want to thank my husband Jim and Elaine Kowalik for proofreading my ar-ticles and to thank Sandy Fiore for not scolding me when I missed my deadlines. Now is the time to choose and plant your bare root roses. Be sure to add one cup of super phosphate and one-half cup magnesium blend to the bottom of each planting hole. You still have time to plant camellias and azaleas. I will remind you again that the time to plant camellias and azaleas is when they are blooming. It is also time to purchase cymbidiums. bloom in winter and spring, so you can choose now. Start feeding epiphyllums with a mild fertilizer such

as 0-10-10 or 2-10-10. Feed cineraria with the same fertil-izer. Continue to feed cymbidiums that have not bloomed with a high-bloom formula.

When rains are not adequate, water all garden plants according to their individual needs. Remember to water plants under eves where rains cannot reach them.

Dormant spray roses protect cymbidiums from slugs and snails. Fertilize roses once the new growth turns from red to green. Pick up dead blossoms and leaves to prevent petal blight.

If you are changing hummingbird feeders, birds may not immediately feed from the new one. It may help if you keep the old feeder hanging next to the new one. Then the birds can adapt. All bird types, including hum-mingbirds, will appreciate a perch and will stay longer if they can rest while feeding.

Those door prizes along with gift baskets from Rita Harper, Alicia Oliger, Patti Smith, Debi Vail, and hand-made coasters from Sunny Frowein, were given to several lucky ticket winners during an intermission presentation by Racquet Club president Herb Livsey and first-time party organizer Karen Kinney. They thanked the many Racquet and Sailing Club members who made this fab-ulous party a reality. Joyce Malloy took charge of the menus, kitchen, and gathering volunteers to set up Abra-vanel Hall. Sunny Frowein and Jo Wichary did a beau-tiful job on the decorations. Many, many volunteers helped with the setup of the dining room, decorations, candles, balloons, and beverages–too many to list. Party planner Karen Kinney gives special thanks to Patti Smith who helped her with everything along the way including wonderful photos and tickets/seating, and to Joan McAl-ister for checking in our guests. Music to entertain and dance to was performed by “Sundance”–a popular lo-cal band that provided a variety of music to accommo-date all types of dance moves from all types of dancers! “Celebration” was the mood and our guests enjoyed it to the max! Thank you Karen Kinney and all who helped to make this evening a great success!

The Racquet Club wishes all members and their fami-lies a HAPPY NEW YEAR! See you all at “Do Dues Day” on January 3, 10 am to 2 pm in Abravanel Hall! Dues are still “only $10” and the benefits are “priceless!” Come join us for 2015! Our first meeting of the year will be on Wednesday, January 14, starting at a later time than nor-mal–5 pm, in the Mykonos Room.

Check out our drop-in schedule for all sports, on our website. And don’t forget–you can find all Racquet Club information and photos at our website: http://www.ohc-cracquetclub.com/.

rV cluBThe songs, “Ain’t We Got Fun” and “On the Road Again” could be the theme songs for

the OHRV Club. We do have fun at meetings, parties and on trips. However, we are also concerned with Ocean Hills and the community outside our gates. We have many members active in leadership roles with clubs in Ocean Hills and as a group we contribute food to the In-terfaith Shelter Program and send them a yearly check from money collected from members who forget to wear their badges. This year we added a new project while cel-ebrating “Thanksgiving in the Country,” a yearly tradi-tion since 1996.

This year’s Thanksgiving, November 19-21 was cele-brated in Temecula at the Pechanga Casino, Hotel and RV Campground. We prepared over 3,000 Blue Denim “Genes” ribbon cards for the Global Genes Rare Diseas-es organization. Rare and genetic disease affects an es-timated 30 million Americans and 300 million children and adults worldwide. The more than 7,000 rare diseases impact more people than aids and cancer combined. more information of how you or your organization can help, contact OH resident, Judy Gagnon at 760-295-6888.

The Temecula trip was enjoyed by 32 campers and WOWs. Four women Wagon-masters planned a full sched-ule of a potluck dinner, a winery tour on a San Francisco type trolley, a pizza and beer night, a docent led tour of Old Town Temecula and museum as well as games, jigsaw puzzles, golf and shopping. Breakfast was served each morning, happy hour was enjoyed every day and we were well fed at the Thanksgiving dinner at Marie Calendars.

As usual the RV Club party in December was well planned by our talented committee. We enjoyed a Pro-gressive Holiday Party with delicious food prepared by Bobby’s Hideaway in various beautifully decorat-ed homes. Everyone met for dessert in Abravanel Hall where fellowship continued and the 2015 officers were installed. President, Bill Jones; Vice-presidents Trips, Charlotte Hayes; Social, Jan Lopez; Lot, Steve Malone; Secretary, Barb Snyder; Treasurer, Ellin Whitson. These officers got right to work at the Do Dues Day and were de-lighted with the response of current members and brand new ones.

Thank you to our outgoing officers and good luck to our new officers. Several exciting trips and events are al-ready scheduled. We’re ready to sing our theme songs in 2015.

sailinG cluBAt the November meeting, officers were elect-ed for 2015. Continuing as Commodore is Allan

Paloutzian. Bob Kopolow will serve as Vice-Commodore, Forrest Newburg as Fleet Captain, and Evy Sanfilippo as Treasurer. Sally Booth will replace Bill Smith as Secre-tary. Also at the meeting, Commodore Paloutzian recog-nized a number of members for their contributions to the Club during 2014, and announced that Forrest Newburg had been accepted as Captain and Linda Heimer had sat-isfied the qualifications as First Mate. Slides of the re-cent Catalina trip were also shown at the meeting.

The last event of the year, the annual Sailing Club – Racquet Club Holiday Party, took place on Sunday, De-cember 7 in Abravanel Hall. The Racquet Club was the host for this dressy (black tie optional) event this year and a great time was had by all.

While the pace of activities will slow down in the win-ter, there will still be opportunities for day sails. Check either the Club website or the Sailing Club folder at the Front Desk to see which captain is taking out a boat, and on which date.

The Sailing Club website contains a link that informs users about future sails and allows you to sign up or add your name to the waiting list. If the boat is not full, add your name to the list and put a check for $45 in the Sail-ing Club check envelope to be added to the sail. Priority goes to those who place their checks in the Sailing Club envelope earliest.

See us at Do Dues Day, January 3 to join this active club for the coming year and join us at our next meeting

on January 6 to enjoy delicious snacks and drinks, and to sign up for upcoming sails and special activities. Due to the renovations to Abravanel Hall, the meeting will be held in an alternate location to be determined. Refresh-ments are served at 7 pm and the business meeting be-gins at 7:30 pm.

senior Fitness cluBThe Senior Fitness Club meets Tuesdays at 1

pm and Thursdays at 11 am in Abravanel Hall. The annu-al dues are $5 and the class fee is $3 per class.

The classes consist of low-impact exercise, including balance and coordination, flexibility and range of mo-tion, stretching and strengthening. Come on down and join us!

Instructor, Carl Grubbs, is a Senior Fitness Coach who has taught Senior Fitness classes at OHCC and other lo-cations for over 12 years. He has won numerous medals in the Senior Olympics.

sewinG, etc.If you are reading this, perhaps you are inter-

ested in crafts, beading, card making, and sewing. Won-derful! Please join us. We do a wide variety of things. Twice a month we have a craft or sewing project that we do together. Once a week there is beading or card making gatherings. Twice a year we join in a lunch or brunch and show each other what we’ve been working on. We have monthly member meetings where ladies provide a “show and tell.” We have a website (look to see all the things we do). It’s www.ohccsewingclub.com.

If you’ve been in the Sewing Room you’ve seen the wall hangings that came from the same pattern, but show the creativity and imagination of the individual. One of our first projects for next year will be to choose another similar-but-not-quite-the-same project so we can take our “trees” home. Help us make the choice, then help make something for the wall.

I’ve been in this community for five years, and have enjoyed the company of bright, witty, caring, and creative women. Sometimes I don’t even take anything to do, but just join them in conversation. I’m not as good as many of them, but it doesn’t matter. When I get stuck there are plenty of ladies to learn from. It’s good to be a woman!

Please sign up on Do Dues day, Saturday, January 3. You won’t regret it.

theatre artsTheatre Arts members and guests enjoyed a wonderful holiday party, MASQUERADE, on

December 1. We were entertained by Ricky Rivas, and feasted on a delicious meal by Bobby’s Hideaway! Many thanks to Theresa Howell and Lyn Asaro for planning this event, and to all who helped set up and cleanup. A special nod to Theresa for her beautiful center pieces,

January events include our weekly Acting Class, taught by Al Valletta. This is an 8 week class that meets on Mondays, from 9 to 11:30 am in the Art Room. It is open to all OHCC residents; we welcome you to come in and join our class at any time! If you have missed a class, Al will have you make it up. The cost is $100 for the 8 week (20 Hours!) session. A brand new session will begin on January 12. Please bring your check, made out to Al Valletta, to the Theatre Arts envelope at the Front Desk by January 10.

Also, we encourage you to attend our Playreaders group. We meet the first Wednesday of the month in the Art Room at 1 pm. We usually stay about 2 1/2 hours, reading plays of many different genres. It is a very enjoy-able activity! Thanks to Steve McConnell for organizing and leading us.

January 3 is Do Dues Day; please plan on joining our group for only $10! We have a busy year planned, with play productions in April and October. Watch for audition notices in January and June! Get involved in the many levels of play production, including acting, producing, di-recting, sets, costumes, props, publicity, and backstage support. You do not need any experience…your help is es-sential for a successful production!

We also have parties planned for next June and De-cember. Our monthly meetings will be somewhat modi-fied while Abravanel Hall is closed. We are planning for an off-site Theatre Party in February. Stay tuned for de-tails!

On April 24 and 25, we will present our next play, “Dad-dy’s Dyin; Who’s Got the Will,” written by Del Shores. This is a comedy/drama that deals with the interactions among the delightfully quirky members of a dysfunctional fam-ily who have gathered together while the patriarch of the family is critically ill. It is focused on a rebirth of the spir-it of the family unit, and is warm and light…not morbid! Auditions for this production will be on January 13, from 9 am to 12 pm in the Music Room, and January 20, from 10 am to 1pm in the Mens Club Room. Mark your calen-dars and come and audition for this production. There are 5 parts for women and 3 parts for men.

MEMBERS - Make sure you are reading our emails; that is the best way to stay informed!

Don’t miss out on our activities. Your support guaran-tees our success!

Make Theatre Arts part of your life…Let us entertain you!

VillaGe DancersThe Village Dancers are enjoying the danc-

es (jazz and tap) we are learning from our new teacher, Yvonne Jessen. Yvonne is a bit younger than we are, and we are enjoying her enthusiasm and energy. Yvonne has her own studio in Encinitas and teaches small children. Sometimes she even calls us “kiddies.”

Her new beginning tap class is a big success! If you are interested in trying this class out, just come to the Myko-nos Room on Thursdays at 9 am and observe. We’d love to see you. And don’t forget, we offer classes in Hawaiian dancing and Belly dancing.

We elected a new board for 2015. Phyllis Buvel is the new president; Jackie Stanislawski will take a third term as vice president; Valerie Thompson will be the new sec-retary; and Mona Miller will continue as treasurer. Mona has been doing this job for many years now, and we are so very grateful.

As I say goodbye to my presidency, I must say how much I have enjoyed this job. Our little Club is filled with women and men who love to dance; who are gracious and kind; and enjoy having fun. I will stay on the board as the “Event Coordinator.”

One last thing! Elizabeth Haynes is turning 100 this month. Elizabeth played a significant role in our Club for many years by making many of our costumes. Happy Birthday, Elizabeth and may you continue to have good health.

VillaGe line DancersIt’s the beginning of a new year and the hol-iday season has passed and what better time

than now to work off those extra pounds gained at par-ties. Line dancing is the perfect way to do it. It not only provides great exercise and cardio but it is tons of fun. So come join us and sign up on Do Dues Day, January 3. The cost is $7 for the year.

Three of our line dance classes are taught by Christine Alesiani. She teaches the introductory class on Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, the Level 1 class on Mondays from 12:30 to 2 pm, and the Level 2 class on Tuesdays from 10:30 am to 12 pm. These classes cost $5 a session, except for the introductory class on Thursdays which is $4.

Betty Heyer, our dedicated and talented resident, teaches a review class on Mondays from 2 to 3:30 pm and there is no charge for this class.

All classes are normally held in Abravanel Hall, but due to remodeling we are in hopes to use the Galleria for the first couple of months. Members will be notified by Email as to the situation.

We would like to welcome our new officers for this year---Valerie Davis, president; Clarice Holmes, vice pres-ident; Norma Orseth, secretary; Jan Cryan, treasurer; Betty Heyer, director, and Dovey Roah, director of com-munications. Also, we’d like to show appreciation for re-tiring board members Jenny McGuire, president; Anna Yoshida, vice president; Shirley Foy, secretary; Dee Mc Guire, past president and director for the last five years; and Zelda Fox, treasurer for the past eleven years. Spe-cial thanks to all of you and the volunteers who make our Club strong.

Francis Ainis, our sunshine lady, will continue in her present position and is the person to call if you know someone that would benefit from a get well or sympa-thy card.

Valerie Davis, our current president, is the person to call with questions about Line Dancing. Her number is 760-732-3828.

VillaGe sQuares“Make new friends and keep the old, one is sil-ver and the other is gold” was the theme for our

holiday party this year. We celebrated on December 3rd with ten tables of past members as far back as 1984, as well as our current members, “newbie” graduates and guests. We dined, danced and celebrated with awards and acknowledgements given to the following: Honors were awarded to Jim Randall for caller “extraordinaire;” Verl Lobb for “Verl’s Class” for his student practice class on Thursday; and Sheldon Losnick for contributing his teaching experience.

The outgoing 2014 officers were thanked for their hard work and dedication, as well as special support members – Presidents, Marcia and Steve Ward; Vice-Presidents, Nancy and Hal Bolton; Treasurer - Wanda Guiliano; Secretaries - Pa-tricia Burke and Patti Rice; Billy and Marlene Nupp were As-sistants to the Board; Ed Olson was Party Chair; Marsha Fischer for Hospitality; Ellen Kippel was Sunshine Lady; Verl Lobb for Student Teaching and Ron Stogdill for Tech Support.

The nominated new 2015 officers were voted on and ap-proved to serve the membership in the following positions: Presidents - Marcia and Steve Ward; Vice- Presidents - Ruth-ie and Gene Alexander; Treasurers, Judy and David Quainton; and Secretaries, Patricia Burke and Lisa Seamans.

VillaGe VetsThanks to all of you who came to the Veter-ans Dinner Dance and made it the largest in

attendance of our 4 year existence. The active duty per-sonnel absolutely loved it and they all asked if they could be invited back next year! There will not be a meeting in January but we will have our annual off-base outing in February. In March, we will begin our year with excit-ing speakers. Watch for The Bugle in your tubes for more news. Thanks to all members…it was a great year!

walKers anD hiKersWelcome to 2015! The Walkers Hikers Club is starting the year with a brand new board of of-

ficers. The Club will be led this year by new President Tim Lynch with Jack Shabel as the new Vice-President, the new Treasurer Tim Pentel, and the new Secretary Sharon Olsen. Did I mention that we have an all new board this year? We are fortunate to have Bill Nupp as our volunteer/ appointed hike master again this year.

The first Saturday in January is Do Dues Day where you get to choose which of the many clubs available that you would like to join. On January 3 I hope that the Walkers Hikers Club is on your list to join. Dues for the year will still be $8. We have scheduled 22 hikes for next year as well as 2 parties, a picnic/hike and 2 overnight trips. That works out to a little less than 30 cents per event, a pretty good value not to mention all the fun we have and the ca-maraderie of our membership. Did I mention that we also go out to lunch after each one of our hikes?

The first hike in January will be on Friday, January 16 at Wilderness Gardens Reserve. This is a beautiful hike with moderate and easy hikes. The first hike of the year we invite anyone in the community who would like to try out the club to come out and join us. If you enjoy the

The second hike will be on January 29 when we head over to Black Mountain near Rancho Bernardo. Lunch will be at Cafe 56.

If you decide to join us for either of the two hikes, for personal comfort and safety, don’t forget to bring water, good sturdy shoes, sunscreen, and a hat on any of our hikes. For all hikes, even easy ones, these four items are highly recommended. All four items are important, but on warm sunny days, which we have an abundance of, water and a hat become even more crucial.

All of our hikes start at the Overflow Parking Lot where we meet at 8:30 am and carpool to the trail head. Remember to help out the driver with some gas money if you are in a carpool.

A listing of all of our upcoming events and hikes can be found on the Ocean Hills website under Recreation/Clubs/Walkers Hikers/Future Activities. If you would like more details on any of our hikes or about the Club, please call Tim Lynch at 760-295-9297.

See you on the trails.

yiDDish cluBA MESSAGE FROM THE OUTGOING PRESIDENT

Our Yiddish Club has brought you a full year of lec-tures, entertainment, delicious Deli food and wonderful desserts.

Our membership is 186. Several of our Yiddish Club members have relocated near families or arranged to move to Senior Living. These last two years we have lost several Yiddish Club members. Our Yiddish Club Min-yan Circle has two chairmen: Jerry Samoiloff and Stuart Wohl. These chairmen will provide, when in need, a quo-rum of 10 adult Jewish men to sit Shiva at the gather-ing of one’s home. It is a Mitzvah to volunteer to sit Shi-va. Please consider contacting Jerry and Stuart to do this Mitzvah, (Commandment, Good Deed) and they will add your name on a list. The word Shiva comes from the He-brew word Shivah, which means SEVEN, a weeklong of a mourning period in Judaism.

Do Dues Day will be Saturday, January 3, from 10 am to 2 pm, please consider re-joining or joining for the first time. Dues are $10 for the year.

The Yiddish Club was originally chartered as the Yid-dish Conversation Club in 1993. Its mission was to pre-serve and promote the Yiddish language by giving its members an opportunity to hear and speak the language through many educational and social events. Regrettably, after 20 years, there are very few of our OHCC residents who can speak Yiddish. There is still an interest from the residents to connect with the Yiddish history, culture and tradition. So the Yiddish Club concentrates to provide a variety of events, mostly in English, that address the needs and interests of its members. We meet six times during the year with programs varying from speakers on current affairs, Jewish history, culture, traditions, musi-cal, entertainment and catered lunches. Membership is open to all OHCC residents and anyone can attend our events.

It has been a pleasure serving you as president for these past two years of the Yiddish Club. I hope this New Year will be filled with good health (GEZUNT) and lots of happiness (NACHES).

the Velcome Khaverim flyer at Do Dues Day that summa-rizes the upcoming year’s program. If not, please contact Bonnie Roth and she will either email a copy to you or ar-range to have one put in your tube. Bonnie’s phone: 760-295-5991, email: [email protected].

In hopes of avoiding the Abravanel Hall shutdown, we postponed our first meeting to Monday, March 9 at 7 pm and are booked to meet in the Mykonos Room. AARP SMART DRIVERS

COURSE

Classes are on Saturday February 21 & 28 in the Clubhouse - 8:30am to 12:30pm. This class is presented in 2 sessions and attendees must attend both. This qualifies for a discount with your auto insurance companies after completion of the course. The course fee is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Please bring your AARP membership card to get the discount. Sign up at the Front Desk. Please make check payable to AARP.

Be sure to pick up your room confirmations for 2015. Clubs will find them in their folders…others ask the Front Desk for your confirmation. The first few months of 2015 will be a puzzle for some. Some set-ups will have to start a little late and you might be surprised who you are playing cards with or where.

Are you a string player who would be interested in forming an ensemble or chamber music group to meet weekly to play and rehearse with other villagers? New resident George Fillerup would like to meet you with the purpose of providing entertainment for the community. So….any violinists, cellists, violists who are interested please call contact him at 760-842-1093 or [email protected]

Stained Glass Classes to return to OHCC led by our own long-time little ole glass maker, Sam Smith. The class will show you how to cut and construct both the traditional lead and copper foil methods. Easy to learn says instructor Mike Gilles. Materials fee of $20.00. Interested or questions, call Mike at 760-941-4138.

It’s never too late to learn.

Don’t forget…it’s that time of year again to pick up your Golf Bag Tags.
