❖ CALL TO WORSHIP from Psalm 104

Minister: Bless the LORD, O my soul!

People: O LORD, my God, you are very great!

Minister: I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being.

People: May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD. Praise the LORD!

❖ O FOR A THOUSAND TONGUES TO SINGAZMON, Carl Gläser and Charles Wesley

O for a thousand tongues to sing My great Redeemer’s praise, The glories of my God and King, The triumphs of his grace.

My gracious Master and my God, Assist me to proclaim, To spread through all the earth abroad The honors of thy name.

Jesus, the name that charms our fears, That bids our sorrows cease; ’Tis music in the sinner’s ears, ’Tis life and health and peace.

He breaks the pow’r of reigning sin, He sets the prisoner free; His blood can make the foulest clean, His blood availed for me.

❖ PRAYER OF ADORATION

❖ AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Heidelberg Catechism, #1

Minister: What is your only comfort, in life and in death?

People: That I belong—body and soul, in life and in death— not to myself but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who at the cost of his own blood has fully paid for all my sins and has completely freed me from the dominion of the devil; that he protects me so well that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that everything must fit his purpose for my salvation.

Therefore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

❖ GREAT ARE YOU LORDDavid Leonard, Jason Ingram, and Leslie Jordan

You give life; you are love; You bring light to the darkness. You give hope; you restore Every heart that is broken; And great are you, Lord.

Chorus: It’s your breath in our lungs; So we pour out our praise, We pour out our praise. It’s your breath in our lungs; So we pour out our praise to you only.

You give life; you are love; You bring light to the darkness. You give hope; you restore Every heart that is broken; And great are you, Lord. (Chorus 2x)

And all the earth will shout your praise; Our hearts will cry; these bones will sing: Great are you, Lord. (3x) (Chorus 2x) PRAYER FOR CHRIST’S CHURCH AND THE WORLD

MY ONLY COMFORTJoe Deegan, based on The Heidelberg Catechisms 1 & 22

What is your only comfort in life or in death? That I belong body and soul To the Lord who gives me breath, To the Lord who gives me breath.

He has fully paid for my sins With his own precious blood. He has set me free from the tyranny Of the ruler of this world, Of the ruler of this world.

Chorus: Oh I am not my own; I am bound to Christ alone. My only comfort in this life Is belonging to the Lord, Is belonging to the Lord.

I believe in the resurrection And the promise that was made: That my body and soul will be made whole On the Lord’s Anointed Day, On the Lord’s Anointed Day. (Chorus)

No eye has fully seen, no ear has fully heard, No human heart can imagine The world that is to come, The world that is to come. (Chorus 2x)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, whose covenant with us is never broken, we confess that we fail to fulfill your will. Though you have bound yourself to us, we refuse to bind ourselves to you. In Jesus Christ you serve us freely, but we refuse your love and withhold ourselves from others. We do not love you fully or love one another as you command.

In your mercy forgive and cleanse us. Lead us once again to your word and table and unite us to Christ, the bread of life and the vine from which we grow in grace. Amen.

❖ ASSURANCE OF PARDON Ezekiel 36:24-28

Minister: In the name of Jesus there is forgiveness of sin and new life for all who repent and believe.

People: There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

❖ HE WILL HOLD ME FAST Ada Habershon and Matt Merker

When I fear my faith will fail, Christ will hold me fast; When the tempter would prevail, He will hold me fast. I could never keep my hold Through life's fearful path; For my love is often cold; He must hold me fast.

Chorus: He will hold me fast, He will hold me fast; For my Savior loves me so, He will hold me fast.

Those he saves are his delight, Christ will hold me fast; Precious in his holy sight, He will hold me fast. He'll not let my soul be lost; His promises shall last; Bought by him at such a cost, He will hold me fast. (Chorus)

For my life he bled and died, Christ will hold me fast; Justice has been satisfied; He will hold me fast. Raised with him to endless life; He will hold me fast ‘Till our faith is turned to sight, When he comes at last! (Chorus 2x)

WORDS OF INSTITUTION AND PARTAKING OF THE ELEMENTS

❖ JESUS, I MY CROSS HAVE TAKENHenry Lyte and Bill Moore

Jesus, I my cross have taken, All to leave and follow thee; Destitute, despised, forsaken, Thou from hence my all shall be. Perish every fond ambition, All I’ve sought or hoped or known; Yet how rich is my condition, God and heaven are still my own.

Go, then, earthly fame and treasure, Come disaster, scorn and pain; In thy service, pain is pleasure, With thy favor, loss is gain. I have called thee Abba Father, I have stayed my heart on thee; Storms may howl, and clouds may gather; All must work for good to me.

Soul, then know thy full salvation; Rise o’er sin and fear and care; Joy to find in every station, Something still to do or bear. Think what Spirit dwells within thee, Think what Father’s smiles are thine, Think that Jesus died to win thee, Child of heaven, canst thou repine.

Haste thee on from grace to glory, Armed by faith and winged by prayer; Heaven’s eternal day’s before thee, God’s own hand shall guide us there. Soon shall close thy earthly mission, Soon shall pass thy pilgrim days; Hope shall change to glad fruition, Faith to sight and prayer to praise.

❖ BENEDICTION

Minister: May the blessing of the eternal God be upon us, and upon our work and worship;his light to guide us,his presence to strengthen us,his love to unite us; now and always.

People: Thanks be to God. Amen.

❖ HE WILL HOLD ME FAST

He will hold me fast, He will hold me fast; For my Savior loves me so, He will hold me fast.
