Richard Briggs - EECA I have been with EECA for nearly 3 years and have responsibility for the management and motivation of all EECA service delivery partners and lead the industry sector business partnerships within EECA business. Prior to joining EECA, I held roles at Director, CEO and General Manager levels in the Telco industry. I also have extensive experience gained over 30 years building partnerships and managing third party relationships in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands. There are I have no doubt others with far greater sustainability development experience than myself, however I have many years in business leadership focusing on the development of short and long term strategic plans and initiatives to enable organisations achieve their aspirations. Getting the 10 year strategic plan right with the necessary funding and support is a critical foundation stone to allow the sustainable business network to meet the expectations of members.

Proposer – Greg Visser, EECA

Nicholas Morrison - Innocent Packaging I joined Innocent Packaging as a Business Development Manager in February 2015 and have helped grow the company, since that time, to being a leader in the space of compostable packaging and now employing 8 staff. I have taken on the responsibility of sustainability and product stewardship and these are now a big part of my job role.

I am about to complete the first ever Lead and Influence Sustainability course run by SBN themselves, and have being a regular attendee at workshops and events.

I have done a lot of travel and I passionately believe NZ should be leading the world in the space of sustainability in all of it’s forms. We have a lot of work to do, and some real challenges to overcome, but we also have an incredible opportunity to innovate, create, educate and lead. My most immediate focus is to shift NZ away from our current inefficient and wasteful model of recycling and dumping our waste towards the model of composting our waste (and returning the nutrients back to our soils).

I will bring a lot of passion and believe to the SBN as well as new ideas and a specialist view point in terms of packaging.

Proposer – Antony Small, Innocent Packaging.

Chris McGeown –Tourism Industry Aotearoa With momentum building on global responses to mitigate climate change risks, it is clear that New Zealand businesses can and must develop strategies to ensure they are committed to looking after their economic future and the resources they use to operate To achieve this sustainability must become a genuine ethical underpinning of the economy. I am excited by the opportunity to help New Zealand businesses put long term sustainability at the core of their decision making and a value against which all decisions are tested. From the Sustainable Business Network’s perspective I believe I can make a significant contribution to the strategic direction and future development of the organisation. In particular, ensuring the relevancy of the organisation to its members and broader community through being recognised as:

A strong voice leading and influencing businesses and the communities in which they operate

A thought leader known for its operational excellence and a robust set of executable initiatives

An organisation with highly engaged members.

In my day job I am the Chief Operating Officer at Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA). TIA is the industry body that represents all sectors of New Zealand’s large and diverse tourism industry. Previously I have worked in senior management roles across a number of industry sectors including financial services, electricity generation and deep-sea fishing. I am a Chartered Accountant and presently a Board member of the Australasian Society of Association Executives.

Nick Winstone - Amplify Limited I am a Partner at Aera VC, a fund that invests in early stage technology businesses that combine profit and purpose. Aera VC is founded on the idea that the pursuit of a better world makes for better investment opportunities, and that venture style financial returns can be achieved by backing entrepreneurs who want to be the best in the world and the best for the world. The fund was incubated and launched out of Derek Handley’s Aera Foundation where I was a Partner between 2014 and 2016. We operate out of New York, Hong Kong and Auckland. I also run my own consulting practice, Amplify Limited, drawing on 15 years of experience in investment banking, corporate finance and law in the UK and New Zealand including business Director roles at Northington Partners and CIT, and as a lawyer at Buddle Findlay. Amplify provides general business advice, strategy and mergers and acquisitions services as well as undertaking ongoing advisory roles for a number of SME’s. I bring to any work environment:

An ability to engage with all people

Sound judgement across a wide variety of business fields

A flexible attitude and creative approach to problem solving Open and honest communication The grit, hustle and determination to see things through Accountability and authenticity Unparalleled speed of response and availability Discipline to dot the “i’s” and cross the “t’s”

When I’m not in work mode, I’m Dad to 12 week old Claudia and husband to Rozy. I live in Auckland and in the weekends you can find me in the outdoors taking advantage of all New Zealand has to offer. WHY SBN In my current roles I’m fortunate to see some of the best business models from New Zealand and around the world with sustainability and “purpose” at their heart. I would like to elevate SBN’s role in highlighting success stories from New Zealand and around the world and, in particular, to prove sustainability, purpose and profit do not involve tradeoffs but are sound business decisions that differentiate and propel each other forward. At a practical level SBN is only as effective as its membership and as viable as its finances allow so I’m keen to ensure that it adds value to members beyond a logo on a website and remains on a sound financial footing.

Deborah Crowe – Love and Care Ltd Deborah describes herself as an Ambassador for Nature with a vision to connect decision makers with themselves, humanity and nature so that they make business decisions that are better for our people and our planet. She grew up on a Southland farm, raising sheep, growing grain and breeding horses. Her parents founded Biofeed, an organic plant food, in 1994 and Deborah has been actively involved in this business over the years. Deborah has a rich love of the outdoors with extensive global travels involving rivers, mountains or some other wonderful natural setting. Deborah has been a Way of Nature student with USA based ecological pioneer John P Milton since 1996. John introduced her to Paul Hawken’s book, Ecology of Commerce - A Declaration of Sustainability. Deborah realised then that commerce and environmental care could go hand in hand and returned to New Zealand to build her business expertise 20 years on, Deborah is a seasoned SME business leader and technology entrepreneur. Her background as a telecommunications engineer led to her to implementing the first online banking system in NZ in 1997, going on to co-found and lead Run The Red, who created one of the first ever mobile banking platforms in 2004. Run The Red won a number of international and national technology and marketing awards over the years and achieved a planned exit with a sale to Pushpay in 2014. Deborah has first hand experience of the importance of both commercial and personal sustainability and is adept at combining her rich business and digital technology expertise with her advocacy for personal and environmental wellbeing. Deborah now lives in Tauranga with her husband and their 8 year old son, where she enthusiastically supports SME’s and entrepreneurs utilising her skills in facilitation, coaching and mentoring. Her focus is on Clarity, Connection and Execution. A favourite question to ask is "What is the good you are doing in the world?" The second question is often "And are you looking after yourself?" A most important and often neglected aspect of bringing all that you are into your business. Deborah also offer’s the SBN board a Regional SME perspective, connections into New Zealand’s burgeoning regional start up communities and co-working spaces and contacts with global thought leaders in sustainability and conscious business practises. If elected, Deborah’s goals are to explore how SBN’s wealth of knowledge and expertise can better support SBN’s own commercial sustainability and to explore how digital mediums can increase access to this expertise in the regions.

Carley Young – Ten Four Communications My history with SBN extends back to 2008 when it was a client of the agency I worked for and continues today through my clients Ricoh New Zealand and NZI, both members and sponsors of SBN.

My interest in sustainable development began during my first career as a town planner. Agenda 21, the output of the 1992 UN Earth Summit in Rio, was a key text book and fostered in me the concept of sustainability.

I have continued this interest in sustainable development throughout my communications career, which has included working with clients in the banking, FMCG, technology, insurance and viticulture industries to promote sustainability initiatives, and project managing and writing sustainability reports using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework.

I would bring to the table a broad understanding of sustainability from the point of view of corporate reputation and social responsibility. I have well developed issues identification and management skills that are critical in the ultra connected world we inhabit where a reputation can be made or lost in seconds. Additionally, I'm a strategic thinker with an active awareness of what drives media and New Zealand's socio-political landscape.

My goal for the future development of the SBN is to widen its reach and see it partner with more of New Zealand's large employers and corporates Proposer – Mike Pollok, Ricoh New Zealand Limited

Margaret Tukerangi – Metier My name is Margie Tukerangi and I hail from the tribes of Ngati Whatua, Ngati Maru and Ngati Tamatera, all very accustomed to living off the land. My birth into the workforce began with The Body Shop while Anita Roddick was in full rein. The company's global success staged Anita's commitment to use her business to force environmental sustainability, human rights, animal protection and community based initiatives that gave back to local communities right across to building sustainability within third world communities. For seven years my roles varied across our Australasian franchise from a retail position, to training, to management — carrying out the company's values and vision's alongside our financial success. Being so intimately involved in the culture of this reputable company has shaped the way I conduct myself today and gives me expertise vital to an entity like SBN.

In 2005 I moved to London which led to an eight-year global experience that has certainly broaden

my wisdom across many areas of life. Upon my return in 2012 I've deepened my Maori heritage and

to enhance my ability to make contributions in my communities I love. My current contributions

involve numerous roles all centred around people and relationships expressed in:

Marae Trustees: this means I ensure we have robust governance that ensures our sustainability moving forward. Our current focus is our Marae rebuild which has me mapping out eco-friendly designs with our environmentalist at iwi level.

Education: here I sit on two Strategic Planning Committee where one focus's on futureproofing

the Maori Language across the entire Ngati Whatua o Kaipara, and the other a local kohanga reo

Page 10: OFFICIAL VOTING FORM FOR ELECTION OFsustainable.org.nz/.../2016/...Nominees-AGM-20164.pdf · OFFICIAL VOTING FORM FOR ELECTION OF NATIONAL BOARD MEMBERS 2016/2017 Page 1 of 13 CLOSING

where I'm co-ordinate a pilot scheme that will see us be the first kohanga to introduce digital

learning in full immersion Maori. The future plan is to spread this model across all other full

immersion language nests.

Entrepreneurship: this includes co-facilitating leadership programmes and workshops to other entities to accelerate entrepreneurship within the future of their business.

Community: I've intentionally housed myself in Glen Innes, the very neighbourhood where I was raised. Here there are multitudes of transformations which have seen the birth of many new

locally led initiatives. My involvement in these scatter but have me free to channel all my life

blessings into breathing life into their dreams. These are merely a snippet of this young Maori Woman's achievements and I'm confident that these

give me a rich network to call on, as-well as brings meaningful value to the board of SBN.

My vision looking forward is to create a New Zealand that brings whanaungatanga as a way of doing

business. I couldn't think of a practice, a value and a concept more relevant to SBN than

Whakawhanaungatanga. Lastly, I'm absolutely excited by the possibility to make our beautiful New Zealand the model sustainable nation for the world.

Peter Lee – C2C Partners Ltd My involvement with sustainability and SBN in particular goes back to the late 1990s as a board member of NZ Businesses for Social Responsibility, then as a founder board member of SBN. In a previous corporate r0le I brought in that company’s first-ever supplier choice policy and evaluation criteria, resulting in the selection of suppliers more committed to sustainability principles. I also have had a long involvement in ethical investing, including developing and launching two ethical investment funds, and currently advise a number of clients in the ethical investment area. Finally, I have had a long involvement in conservation groups. I would bring several vital skills to the SBN board:

Financial expertise – I have over 30 years of experience in financial services, and am currently principal of a boutique investment, financial planning and employee benefits business.

Board experience – I’m a current member of the Lifeline Aotearoa Endowment Trust (LAET) board, a current board member and former chair of the Supporters of Tiritiri Matangi (SoTM), and recent deputy chair Northcote College Board of Trustees. I understand the crucial difference between governance and management.

Strategic planning experience – through board, CEO and senior management roles.

Not for profit management -I understand the needs and balances that must be achieved between all stakeholders in a not-for-profit member body, having been CEO of the Institute of Financial Advisers, the peak professional member body.

Stakeholder engagement and management, through board and CEO experience. I’ve developed key stakeholder relations with members, corporate sponsors and regulators, am comfortable working with CEOs of major corporates to further common interests, and am an experienced presenter.

My marketing training and experience, including senior roles for two major financial services companies, has given me a real understanding of the importance of brand, developing member services, and great communications.

My vision for SBN is for it to develop even more as a vitally-relevant and effective leader, and source of expertise for sustainability-focused businesses. I’m particularly interested in supplier choice policy and supporting member efforts to engage with the wider business community to promote sustainability.

using the Future Fit business benchmark, which includes restorative projects such as Trees That Count. Anne is passionate about embedding social values into the organisation through supported employment opportunities for those with disabilities.

Barrie Thomas – The Body Shop A social worker by training, I become head franchisee for The Body Shop in Australia and New Zealand in 1983. In 1989 we opened the first NZ branch of The Body Shop and in 2000 my family and I moved here from Melbourne to concentrate on developing The Body Shop in New Zealand. At present we have 28 outlets and an online presence. Anita Roddick, the founder of The Body Shop, believed that we should use our business to bring about change in society and our mission statement starts “we dedicate our business to the pursuit of social and environmental change”, a sentiment I wholeheartedly embrace. Over the years we have used our New Zealand shops to campaign on issues such preservation of native forests, against factory farming, against nuclear testing, against sex trafficking and against animal testing in the cosmetics industry. We have also campaigned in support of the changes made to S59 (the ‘anti-smacking’ legislation) and fundraised for Women’s Refuge during a campaign to highlight the prevalence of domestic violence in NZ. We were one of the first companies to recognize that we had responsibilities to the communities in which we operate as well as to shareholders, fortunately a concept which now has wide acceptance. In 1998 we were, I believe, the first company to publish a verified social audit of our business in Australia and New Zealand Under our new global CEO, The Body Shop is renewing its social agenda and we have made what we call Our Commitment, which is to Enrich not Exploit. To enrich our products, enrich our people and enrich our planet. In each of these areas there are firm targets we have set ourselves to achieve by 2020. Sustainability is at the heart of our Commitment and I would love to be working with other likeminded individuals within SBN to spread the sustainability message and help people see that we all have responsibilities in this area but more importantly helping people see what they can do to make us more sustainable.

retailers, social enterprises and the recycling industry to create a resource recovery pathway for end of life mattresses. Kevin Russ – Creative Spaces Limited Kevin is presently Design Director at Creative Spaces Limited in Parnell. Creative Spaces are an architecture, interior design and construction management company, 25 years old this June. A company of 31 staff with offices in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Whangarei. Creative Spaces generate on average 50,000 sqm of new buildings, corporate interiors, aged care facilities, medical laboratories and retail outlets per year.

Creative Spaces are a member of the Sustainable Business Network and recently hosted the ‘Facilitating the Circular Economy in New Zealand’ workshop conference at their offices in Parnell.

Creative Spaces are often in the unique position of controlling not only the specification of product in to a project but also the contractors themselves through an open book design-build offering to corporate clients. This method provides designers with specific market feedback in terms of application of materials and the opportunities for creative reuse.

Creative Spaces, under Kevin’s guidance, have recently completed a world first Circular Economy Model Office fitout, for one of New Zealand most historic and iconic FMCG companies - Cerebos Greggs in the heritage AEPB building in Nuffield Street Newmarket.

Kevin was also the Project Architect for Auckland Council’s refurbishment project (to 6 star NZGBC standard – pending) of the ex ASB Bank headquarters building in Albert St, Auckland. The 2 year project involved refurbishment of over 28000 sqm of existing office space with multiple creative reuse stories, including a credible 83% diversion of waste by weight from landfill, a major achievement for this type of project.

Kevin is passionate about creative reuse and intelligent specification, often testing product suppliers as to the true nature of their ‘green‘ credentials. Recently assisting the SBN with market feedback in terms of construction waste minimisation. Kevin believes that ‘consumption shift’, if cleverly applied via design, can not only produce attractive outcomes, but introduces character and provenance to design, going beyond the introduction of ‘the third place’ enhancing building interiors to a state which could be called ‘the forth place’.

Prior to joining Creative Spaces in 2013, Kevin ran his own highly successful practice for 20 years, employing what would now be termed sustainable design techniques well before the contemporary sustainability movement.
