INSTALLATIONS

The Sign of Fidelity The sign of fidelity is one of the most mis-used signs in Masonry. It is often used when neither called for, nor required. The sign has specific and limited use, namely: • It is used when the VOSL is being attended; • It is used during obligations; • It is given during prayers, in ceremo-nies; • In the Masonic Memorial Service in the Funeral Home, (when the W.M. says: “Let Us Pray”); • During the closing of lodge in the First Degree, when saying “F.F.F.”; • By the S. W., when presenting a candidate; • When receiving the Grand Honours, or when accompanying a brother who is receiving them; • As directed in the Installation Cere-mony, when the Master Elect is assenting to the Ancient Charges. The Sign is NOT given: • When you have completed an as-signed piece of work; • In the Banquet Room; • When acknowledging greetings from the W. M. • By the W. M. when receiving visi-tors; • When you are not wearing your apron. Also, in this Grand Jurisdiction, we do NOT bend or bow when the affirmation “So mote it be” is said at the conclusion of any Prayers. Michael Fullerton, PM Sarnia District Protocol & Etiquette Chairman

Please make the District Secretary and En-tered Apprentice Chairman aware of any First Degrees your lodge puts on. This way the word will get out and we can fill our lodge halls when our newest brethren take their first step into masonry.

Jason Henry Sarnia District Entered Apprentice Chairman MASONICh.I.P. A Sigh of relief for Ontario parents

No parent wants to think that one of the 55 children who are reported missing to police in Ontario every day could be theirs. Ma-soniChIP, a comprehensive, non-invasive child identification program, started in 2007 to help Ontario parents be prepared for the unthinkable—at a time when seconds can count. We are looking for volunteers to assist with this important initiative. Like anything of importance, it will require the support and help of many Masons. Lend your support. Get a Police Background Check done and you can become part of a very valuable team and public service. http://www.masonichip.ca https://twitter.com/masonichip

CHAIRMEN’S REPORTS CONTINUED

New to the Sarnia District Library The Annual Report of the Mason-iCh.I.P. Foundation shows that by the end of 2014, after 8 years of operation, 62,173 identification kits have been distributed. The principal source of funding for the MasoniCh.I.P. program is dona-tions from individuals, Lodges, concordant bodies, corporations and other service clubs. Dona-tions in 2014 were dramatically less than prior years. As the econ-omy has slowed, it has been more difficult to get corporate sponsors. The need for individual and Lodge sponsors is increasing. The whole operation depends so much on volunteer help from Masons that annual operating cost for the whole province in 2014 was $34,094. More information, and specific accolades to Sarnia District, are in the Annual Report that is available at the Sarnia District Masonic Li-brary. ON THE SQUARE You may be a doctor, A lawyer or poet, A merchant, a tailor or priest, A baker, a milkman, a teacher or sage, You may be the greatest or least. We all have duties in life to do, Whether easy or hard, they’re there, But when they are done you like to feel That you are “ON THE SQUARE” It is good to know you have done your best, Helped someone along life’s rough way, Have shared your goods and given advice, With never a thought about pay. You have done your best have done the good deed, Because you saw the need was there, And oh, the joy you felt within, By acting “ON THE SQUARE” Whatever in life you like to be, Or whatever you think you are, It’s often what our friends will say That either help us or mar. And life becomes a more beauti-ful thing, The flowers and birds seem more fair, When people say as we pass by, That fellow’s “ON THE SQUARE”.

MASONRY IN ACTION

150th Blood Donation V.W.Bro. Carl Hall, PAGC

V.W.Bro. Carl Hall, Past Assistant Grand Chaplain, is our current Blood Donor Chairman. He is also a mason who walks the talk. On August 5th, 2015, he made his One Hundred and Fiftieth Donation to Canadian Blood Services. Many family and friends were there to join, celebrate and support one of Sarnia District’s finest masons. Carl has always proudly announced his involvement with the Blood Donors and he encourages all masons, who are able, to give the gift of life.

It’s in you to give, Brethren. Tragedies, accidents and medical operations re-quire lifesaving blood. You can be the lifeline for a friend, a family member, a com-plete stranger or even a masonic brother. Your blood donation is a gift of immeasur-able value. Giving blood is more than an act of charity it is an act which saves lives.

Giving blood is an easy process. And, your act of giving will have more conse-

quence than the most eloquent of speeches or lectures. Please contact our District Blood Donor Chairman V.W.Bro. Carl Hall (519-542-2607) for further information on how you can get involved.
