Aboard the Edmonton Riverboat on July 13, 2019 We can confirm that we did run into a challenge in the last 10 minutes of our return to Rafter's Landing on our 8 PM Dueling Piano cruise Saturday, July 13th, 2019. After making a few attempts to break through the strong water current in and around the area of "Accidental Beach", we faced the decision as to how to get our passengers safely back to shore to conclude their experience with us. Our first course of action under standard operating procedures is to employ our rescue service boat to come out and provide us towing services. Unfortunately, with the timing of this event, our service provider was out of town attending the World Jet Boat Championship Races. Therefore, we chose to employ the assistance of Edmonton's Fire and Rescue services in the hopes they would be able to offer towing services. We called them at approximately 11:20 PM and they arrived on scene approximately 10 minutes after that. Our staff worked with the Captain on duty to determine the best plan of action and it was determined they would not be able to offer the towing option with the equipment they had. It was decided that the best course of action would be to simply shuttle the passengers back to shore. Three boats to assist with this process. One boat was tethered directly to Edmonton Riverboat to serve as a base for the passengers to transfer onto the transport boats. One 14-16 passenger boat and one small 4 passenger boat were used to transport our guests back to shore. Back at Rafter's Landing they were greeted by Fire and Rescue crews as well as Edmonton Riverboat staff who were there to offer access to taxi services as well as to confirm their exit from the boat to ensure accurate passenger counts. We want to assure everyone that this was a non-emergency evacuation and that no passengers sustained any injuries during this event. Our Riverboat is now back home safe and sound and we don't anticipate making any changes to our upcoming schedule due to this past weekend adventure. The challenge we faced is very specific to that area of the river and we will simply avoid travelling downstream while river levels are above normal. Moving forward, our guests can expect the exact same hospitable service, energy and attention that we are proud our staff delivers! We look forward to resuming our regular operations and providing the one of a kind exposure to our river valley our guests have come to enjoy! We are very grateful to Edmonton's Fire and Rescue crews for their assistance and to all our passengers who were extremely patient, cooperative and understanding.
