There wouldn't be a Relay if it wasn't for an incredibly special group of people, our local volunteer organising committee. This inspired bunch have generously given so much of their time over the last 12
months to create this wonderful event for the Orana community; a huge thank you to this team! Noel Manning, Jason Dearmer, Lee Berrier, Karen Isbester, Trish Taylor, Katie Cox, Selina Baker,
Susie Hill and Wendy Ambachtsheer.
To all of the amazing Relayers! Thank you so much for choosing to be an important force in the fight against cancer. Your efforts are
helping raise vital dollars, inspiring others to join, and spreading the word about Relay For Life.
It’s the unique enthusiasm and passion of you all that make Relay For Life the worldwide cancer
fighting movement it has become. Again, thank you for all your time and energy you have invested:
with every step you take, you are helping Cancer Council save lives.

Where the money
goes
In 2014 Relay raised $23,297,098! This is where that money went.
Here’s how you’re making a difference
At Cancer Council we believe it’s so important to show you, our supporters, just how vital Relay For
Life is in our mission to beat cancer. As a community-funded organisation, we rely on the goodwill of
thousands of donors, fundraisers and volunteers to fund our much-needed research and programs.
Through the funds raised at Relay For Life, more than 61,000 Australian lives have been saved over
the last 20 years. Improvements in cancer prevention and screening mean that less people will hear
the words, “you have cancer”. Advances to cancer treatments allow cancer patients to spend more
time with their loved ones. You, our supporters, have played a huge part in this, and by continuing to
participate in Relay For Life we will save more lives. Thank you.
Your donations at work
$5 can help us give a newly-diagnosed cancer patient important support and information
resources to help them through their cancer journey.
$10 can help offer free exercise programs that assist cancer patients in building strength and
fitness during and after treatment.
$25 can help transport cancer patients to and from hospital for treatment.
$50 can help the Cancer Council 13 11 20 provide free and confidential information and
support on all aspects of cancer.
$100 can help provide free accommodation for cancer patients, their families and carers
during treatment.
$500 can help pay an overdue electricity, phone, gas or rates bill for a cancer patient who has
not been able to work.
$5000 can help fund ground-breaking research into new and better ways to prevent, diagnose
and treat cancer.

Relay For Life is a celebration of cancer survivorship,
sending a message of hope that people do survive
cancer.
The first lap of Relay honours cancer Survivors and
Carers who take to the track, proudly wearing coloured
sashes. All participants gather around the track to
applaud the courage and strength shown by those
completing the lap. With motivation levels high, all
participants walk the second lap together.
All cancer Survivors and Carers are welcome to take part
in the walk, whether they are part of a team or not.
Survivors are those who are now cancer-free or those
who are currently undergoing treatment. Carers include
those walking with the person they care for and those
walking in honour of a loved one lost.
Remember
Hope Bags will be available
for a gold coin donation from
the Hope Garden. Sand and
candles will be provided.
As dusk settles, it becomes a time to remember.
Candle tributes are lit in honour of loved ones lost to
cancer, or in support of someone living with cancer.
They line the track, inscribed with personal messages
of love, remembrance and hope, glowing through the
night and inspiring Relayers as they walk.

Hear about recent advocacy campaign wins
New research funded by Cancer Council has
been released showing 37,000 Australians
each year can avoid a cancer diagnosis
largely by making healthier choices. Are you
surprised at the numbers?
Travelling to and from medical appointments is
difficult for many people affected by cancer.
Radiotherapy in particular requires daily attendance
for up to six weeks and can result in fatigue.
