SchoolBAG Contributes $300,000 to the Community

The SchoolBAG programme has contributed more than $3,055,300 in grants to over 14,900 student beneficiaries since its launch 13 years ago. Part of Sembcorp Marine’s Commun i t y Soc i a l Respons ib i l i t y P rog ramme, t he SchoolBAG initiative aims to ease the financial burden on low-income families through grants that subsidise their children’s educational expenses. Student recipients can use the SchoolBAG grants to purchase basic school supplies, such as school textbooks, uniforms and stationery items, as well as fund enrichment programmes to support their holistic development. The broadening of the SchoolBAG programme has seen a twofold increase in the recipient numbers and grant contributions since its launch in December 2001.

Guest-of-Honour Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law, presented the grants to student representatives during the SchoolBAG presentation ceremony held at Bukit View Primary School.

In his speech, Mr K Shanmugam commended Sembcorp Marine for initiating the SchoolBAG programme as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
