Official Newsletter of The Arizona American Italian Club DECEMBER 2016
My Fellow AAIC Members,
I don’t know if we’re going to see any “one horse open sleighs” this month in Phoenix, but the Holidays are upon us!
November was a great month for the club. Our Thanksgiving dinner was spectacular with over 100 people giving thanks at
the club. Frank, Max and their staff did a fine job with the dinner, Jack Alves performed his Holiday show and everyone
enjoyed the day. And what about the bread??? We are now serving some of the finest Italian bread in Arizona made by
Fabio on Fire. And thanks to Frank, we have a new SALAD BAR on Thursdays and Fridays. It doesn’t get much better than
this. Come out and support YOUR CLUB!
Our new sign is out front thanks to a generous donation by AAIC member, Mike Burns, and thanks to Ron Foss at Global
Signworks (602-819-0461). If you need a sign, call Ron!
I want to thank the Affiliate members Kevin, Doug, Rick and the whole group who put together a charity Horseshoe
tournament in October. They collected over $1600 for a military charity, Dogs on Deployment. A big Grazie goes out to
these guys for their hard work.
Don’t forget to get your tickets now for the club Christmas party and New Year’s Eve party. We’re looking forward to more
great times at the AAIC. On Saturday, January 21st we are hosting not only Party Bingo, but in the big room, “Italian Night
Dinner” with our guests, The National Italian American Bar Association Board members as well as ALL the Italian
organizations in Phoenix. We will have a beautiful Italian dinner and entertainment by…..are you ready…PIETRO
RAINONE and strolling accordion musician, Agostino Figurelli. Tickets will be $30 with a portion going to The Children’s
Hospital. We are expecting some VIP guests as well as all the Italians in our club (and Affiliate members too!). We hope all
the clubs will come together and enjoy the evening. Watch your newsletter for details.
Speaking of Pietro, he will return on Wednesday nights starting January 25th through April 5th. We are now planning our
60th anniversary celebrations the last week of March and culminating with a formal dinner on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Our
club was incorporated on April 15, 1957, so we felt we need to celebrate at the beginning of April. There may even be a
surprise Italian Concert on Saturday, April 8th performed by an Italian musician and his classical pianist who has performed
all over the US as well as Europe, Argentina and South America. They perform Italian songs of the 1960’s (Gino Paoli,
Fabrizio De André, Luigi Tenco, Umberto Bindi, Bruno Lauzi, etc.) Watch for details on these events.
Lastly, in this month’s newsletter you will find a very touching letter from Margaret Ruccolo (see page 7). This wonderful
lady sent this heartwarming letter along with a donation to our scholarship fund. This exemplifies our club, why we
volunteer and donate our time and money. This letter made me very proud to be a part of this club and organization and I
hope you will feel the same.
It’s that time of year, please renew your membership. Save the club the money of mailing our reminder notices, send
your check today.
On behalf of the AAIC Board, we wish you and your family the happiest, safest of Holidays. Merry Christmas and Happy
New Year to all!
Warm regards,
Jay Fuller ~ President
