An Ordinance further to Amend the Motor Traffic

Ordinance, 1915.

i. This Ordinance may be cited as “The Motor Traffic(Amendment) Ordinance, 1923,” and shall be read as one withThe Motor Traffic Ordinance, 1921, hereinafter called ‘‘thePrincipal Ordinance.”’

2, Section 9 of the Principal Ordinance, as repealed andsubstituted by Section 5 of the Motor Traffic (Amendment)Ordinance, 1921, is hereby repealed, and the following sectionsubstituted therefor :—

“9. The fees set forth in the fourth Schedule heretonunexed shall be payable in respect of any licence for a motor-car or carrlage or in respect of any other matter or thing forwhich under this Ordinance fees are payable.”

8. The burden of proving that alicence or a certificate hasbeen issued under any provision of the Principal Ordinance shaillie on the person charged with contravening such provision.

PROCLAMATION.

IN EXERCISEof the powers conferred upon theGovernor-in-Council by the Game Ordinance, 1921,Section 15, I, Edward Brandis Denham, Companionof the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michaeland Saint George, Governor’s Deputy of the Colonyand Protectorate of Kenya, do hereby prohibit theuse of a motor vehicle for the purpose of pursuing orcapturing game. And I do hereby further proclaimand declare that this prohibition shall not extend tothe pursuing or capturing of game on any privatelyowned land in any case where the permission of theowner or his agent or the occupier of such land hasbeen obtained in that behalf.

IN EXERCISEof the powers thereunto enablingme, I hereby declare that Proclamation No. 3 of1922 be amended by revoking the description of thearea therein defined and substituting therefore thefollowing :—

(4) That portion of the Kenya Provincebounded on the North and West by a line com-mencing at the Lorian Swamp; thence followingthe Uaso Nyiro River up-stream to Archer’s Post;thence in a Southerly direction following theArcher's Post-Meru Road to its junction with thenew <Archer’s Post-Isiolo Road; thence following

the latter road in a Southerly direction to theNorth-eastern boundary of the grazing areademarcated for the use of the K.A.R. Supply andTransport Oxen; thence in a Southerly directionfollowing the Easterly boundary of that area tothe Meru-Nyeri Road; thence in a Westerly direc-tion following the Meru-Nyeri Road to the Mara-nia (Isiolo) River; thence following the MaraniaRiver up-stream to the South-eastern corner ofFarm No. 2823; thence in a Westerly directionfollowing the Southern boundaries of Farms Nos.2828, 2821, 2820, 2817 and 2816 to the NgareNdare River; thence following the Ngare NdareRiver up-stream to its source on the slopes ofMount Kenya; thence across Mount Kenyain astraight line to the source of the Nairobi River;thenee following the Nairobi River down-streamto the North-east corner of Farm No. 1286;thence following the Northern boundaries of FarmsNos. 1236 and 1235 to the Northern corner ofFarm No. 1285; thence by the Western boundaryof.that farm to the Rongai River; thence followingthat river down-stream to its junction with theAmboni River; thence following the Amboni Riverup-stream to its source in the Aberdare Mountains.

RULES.

IN EXERCISEof the powers conferred upon himby the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, as applied to theColony and Protectorate, His Excellency theGovernor-in-Council has been pleased to make thefollowing Rules :—

1. These Rules may be cited as ‘The TelegraphRules, 1923,’’ and shall have effect from the 1stday of November, 1928.

2. “Plain Language Cable Letter Telegrams”will be accepted for transm'ssion from all TelegraphOffices in the Colony and Protectorate of Kenya,other than Kismayu, to places in Great Britain andIreland, on payment of the following rates :—

For the first 20 words or

part of 20 words Shs. 18

For each word in excess of 20 65 ets.

3. The text of such telegrams shall be in plainEnglish or French.

4. Suco telegrams may be ‘‘Reply Paid.”Ordinary rates will be charged for such reply.

5. Such telegrams will be accepted for suchtransmission on anv day, except Sunday, for normaldelivery 48 hours after the time of such acéeptance.

6. Subject to the cond'tions hereinbefore con-tamed, the same Rules will be applied to suchtelegrams as are applied to ‘‘Deferred Telegrams.”’

1. These Rules may be cited as ‘“‘The MotorTraffic (Amendment) Rules, 1928,’’ and shall beread as one wth the Motor Traffie Rules, 1915,hereinafter referred to as ‘‘the Principal Rules.’’

2. Rule 11 of the Principal Rules is herebyamended by the deletion of the words ‘‘sunset andsunrise’? and by the substitution therefor of thefigures and letters ‘6-15. p.m. and 5-45 a.m.”’

3. The schedule attached to Government Not'ceNo. 86, dated Nairobi the 18th day of March, 1919,is hereby cancelled.
