Greetings Sorors!
Summertime is winding down and we’re gearing up to kick-off our program efforts for the second half of the year. Under the leadership of our new Supreme Basileus, Soror Glenda Baskin-Glover, we will be “Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Ser-vice.” The International Program includes five program targets that are designed to ad-vance the mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha with excellence and underscore our commit-ment to sustainable service. The five program targets for 2018-2022 are:
Target 1: HBCU for Life: A Call to Action
Continue our focus on education with an emphasis on historically black colleges and universities (HBCU’s) by promoting and marketing historically black colleges and uni-versities, encouraging students to attend HBCU’s, and financially supporting HBCU’s.
Signature Program: #CAP – College Admissions Process
Assist students as they seek admission to college by providing guidance and support in completing the application and enrollment process.
Target 2: Women’s Healthcare and Wellness
Continue to raise community awareness of critical health issues impacting African-American women, with primary focus on Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention, Heart Health, Nutrition and Wellness, and Care for the Caregivers.
Target 3: Building Your Economic Legacy
Emphasize financial planning, asset accumulation, and wealth building through person-al financial planning and asset accumulation, credit repair and monitoring, entrepre-neurship and the Black Dollar 365, and Operation AKA Assist.
Target 4: The Arts!
Expose students to arts enrichment and culture – focusing on visual and performing arts and showcasing talent through the exploration of writers, entertainers, and various oth-er artists with Salute to the Harlem Renaissance and the Black Arts Movement.
Target 5: Global Impact
Engage in programming designed to enhance the international footprint of the sorority, including National Global Impact Day, Global Assistance Activities such as Soles 4 Soles, Lions Club International, Pillowcase Project, and Refugees in America Assistance Pro-gram (RAAP).
Our committees have begun planning for implementation of these initiatives. Please contact a committee chairman or me, as Programs Chairman, to join a committee.
Sisterly,
Soror Ameyka
