Stance• Balanced Stance -OL must have the ability to go in 8
different directions. Consistency in stance is important so were are not giving away or advantage
– Feet slightly outside the armpits with foot not further back than the instep of the other foot
– Knees and toes pointed in slightly– Weight on the inside part of the foot– Feet are flat to the ground– Bend at the knees, not the waist– Back is flat and butt is level– Hand placed in line with the shoulder, slightly in front of eye
and is place lightly on the ground with all fingers touching.– Head is up and eyes are forward
Starts• Starts - OL must explode out of their stance but must maintain control of
their body. Good, solid technique and understanding their assignment is essential to playing fast.
• Prep step– 6 inch step, instep to instep– Don’t raise pad level– Hands to chest in praying position– Chest out– Head up
• Power step– 6 inch step into position– Punch with palm to aiming point– Maintain pad level– Head up– Smother opponent
Finish• Finish – OL must complete their block. It is essential to
understand the type and purpose of each block. Big on Big working top the second level if possible.
– 6 inch step,
– Push pull to get leverage
– Run feet
– Roll hips
– Drive opponent away from the play into other opponents
– If the opponent is off balance is off balance lock out the arms
Note – The object of a block is not to destroy (pancake) the opponent but to move, shield or drive the opponent away from the point of attack.
