Civic Dance StudioNow though June 2013!

Enroll now! This great eleven-month dance program encourages students to practice and improve throughout the school year, and culminates with a Year-End Dance Recital. Class participation is crucial in preparing for the recital, so we ask that children commit to attending ALL scheduled classes through June 2013.

New students will be accepted into the program at any time; however, students joining after January 2013 will not be eligible to participate in the recital held June 2, 2013. Classes are held at the Civic Annex.

Regular participation in Civic Dance Studio is the best way to help students build a progressive foundation for dance as they learn and practice dance steps and master the skills they need. Enrollment options are as follows:

Civic Dance Studio classes emphasize correct technique, placement, elegance and discipline. Class typically includes a warm-up, progressive steps across the floor and dance combinations. Ballet classes include ballet and pointe at the barre.

Students progress at different rates. To assign the class most helpful to them, dancers will be assessed for ability as well as age, with age considered secondary. Students also will be monitored to be sure that placement is correct.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to speak to your child’s instructor. Civic Dance Studio also has a Competition Team. If you are interested in being on the team, please contact the instructors. Private lessons will also be available this year starting in August. O’FallonTheatreWorksAuditions for Steel Magnolias Noon on Sunday, August 12O’Fallon Municipal Centre (City Hall) auditorium

Production dates: November 30 – December 2, and December 7 – 9.

The production calls for six women ages 21–65. The play, written by Robert Harling, is filled with hilarious repartee and a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, drawing on characters whose inner strength, deep bond for one another, and willingness to poke fun makes them marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.

All the action takes place in Truvy’s home beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to her clients: Ouiser, the town’s rich curmudgeon (“I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years”); Miss Clairee, an eccentric millionaire with a raging sweet tooth; and M’Lynn, the local social leader whose daughter, Shelby, the prettiest girl in town, is getting married. The play moves toward tragedy when Shelby, a diabetic, puts her life at risk by getting pregnant.

Summer Theater Camp/Workshop Ages 9–12 and 13–17July 9 – 27; performance date Saturday, July 28 at 2 p.m.

Our exciting, three-week summer theater camp and workshop will offer children and teens an opportunity to explore their natural creativity and build confidence through learning and using performing arts skills. Each participant will create an original character, and then collaborate on developing an original storyline and play.

The afternoon workshop will focus on developing creative thinking skills, script writing, and character development on paper and on stage, plus voice work, physical characterization, costuming, set design, and rehearsals, culminating in a matinee production for family and friends to enjoy on July 28. The minimum class size is seven.

If you have back pain, muscle tightness, or simply have questions about improving your posture or core strength, he has an answer for you. There’s no need to sign up; just stop by his table near the RSC Fitness Center desk.

Heart Health Biometic ScreeningOn the first Wednesday of every month, from 10 a.m.–1 p.m., the Wellness Mobile will provide free heart health biometric screenings at the Renaud Spirit Center, including blood pressure, resting heart rate, blood oxygen levels, weight, and body mass index. Body Composition AnalysisIt’s not how much you weigh, but the amount of body fat you carry that’s potentially dangerous to your health. Body-fat percentage is a much better indicator of overall health and fitness than just weight alone, because too much body fat increases your risk of developing serious health problems such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. O ’Fallon’s Learn to Swim program is built on teaching aquatic and safety skills in a logical progression. Our goal

is to teach children and adults how to swim and be safe in and

around the water.

The program is composed of 11 course levels:

Aqua Learning:Preschool:

Preschool Plus:Level 1: Level 2: Level 3: Level 4:Level 5:Level 6:

Level:

Shrimp I and IITurtleSeahorseExplorerSubmarineClipperSailorAdventurerBarracudaFear of Water

Aqua Learning: Parent and child participation is required. Class size is limited to eight parent-child couples.

Preschool – Level 3: Class ratio is six children to one instructor.

Levels 4 – 6: Class ratio is eight children to one instructor.

Fear of Water: Class ratio is four to one instructor. Parents are required to be in the water the first four classes.

Participants will move to the next class or skill level when all skills from the previous level are mastered. Some classes may seem repetitive, but we want swimmers to perfect their skills in order to advance safely. Please keep in mind that children learn at different paces and it’s common to repeat a class.

Weekday classes at the RSC meet twice weekly for four weeks and last 35 minutes. Saturday morning sessions last 40 minutes and meet for seven weeks.

Classes at Alligator’s Creek meet four times a week for two weeks and last 35 minutes.

Which class is right for my child? To ensure your child’s success in the Learn to Swim Program, it’s important to register children for the appropriate level. Children who have participated in the swimming program should register according to the last class successfully completed. Each child must pass a particular level before proceeding to the next.

Aqua LearningThis program helps children ages 6 months to 3 years become comfortable in and around water and prepares them to learn how to swim. The class is divided into two sections: Shrimp I and Shrimp II. NOTE: Classes may seem repetitive because they are introductions to water.

Shrimp I • Ages 6 – 18 monthsParent-child or guardian participation in the water is required. The instructor will demonstrate techniques as parents learn how to safely guide children and help them advance at their own pace.
