Rev. Leander McAdams conducted a fine devotional. f The Moderator, Rev. Warren, made many fine suggestions in hJs

address to the body. . Th~sday's session was given to the Minister's meeting for the

discussions and the theme of the d2y which was "Home Missions." Rev. J. T. Quick defined the subject in an able manner in bll

message on "What is Home Missions?" Rev. J. B. Bloss brought the 11 o'clock message. In this arousiDg

messa~e he pointed out to the church a definite task and duty to ''Go

Patterson conducted a fine devotional. The honorable mayor of Florence gave a royal welcome to their

fair city which was greatly appreciated by whole body. E. w. Graves gave the response.

The clerk seated the standing delegates and declared the session open and ready for business.

The Youth's Camp committee gave its report. The Credential committee reported at this time, after examining

all letters from the various district A.sociat1ons. ; The following Associations represented with delegates and letters:

Rev. Harry Mitchell was elected temporarily to the Board of r Trustees.

CONSTITUTION OF THE MINISTERS' MEETING OF ALABAMA PREAMBLE

The Auditing committee gave it report. The Secretary-Treasurer gave his report. A recess until 6 o'clock was taken. At six o'clock a fine service was enjoyed, especially was the

singing of Young Quartet of East Florence Church. Rev. H. A . .t llts, who is mission director of the National Foreign

Missions in Alabama took the stand to present the needs of the Board ar;d to conduct the devotion.

Rev. J . J. Staab delivered the evening message which was 1D h armony with the Missionary service of the e.vening. An offering of $56.54 was given to Missions.

SATURDAY A. M.

Rev. Lambert led th e song service. Sister E. M. Fields led the prayer. The Business Committee, not being ready to report. A motton tarried to empower tl:e Moderator to remove certain members of Boards who had been unfaithful to duty.

In order to promote fellowship, better understanding, greater cooperation and great er vision among the ministers of Alabama, we do ordain and establish this Constitution:

l NAME: This shall be known as the Alabama ministers• meeting. II. We adopt the Treatise of Faith and practice of the National

Association of Free Will Baptist as our standard to look to and pray for the day when we may be more nearly one.

nr. The officers of the miniterss' meeting shall be a Moderator, Assistant Moderator and Sec:retary, and any other officer we may need.

IV. These officers shall be elected by nomination and acclama­tion at the regular session on even years. The officers of the State Association may serve as officers of the ministers• meeting if so elected.

V. This meeting shall be composed of all ordained ministers in gOOd standing in Alabama and adjoining states who wish to represent. f VI. FINANCE: Each minister shall pay one dollar registration ee to help pay for the record being printed in minutes.

VII. The Secretary shall be paid five dollars preserving the l'ecord Of each meeting.

4. By a two-thirds vote any decision of the Moderator may be over -ruled.

5. T'.ais meeting shall sit with open doors unless it goes into a committee as a whole.

6. Any person, not a member of the body shall be allowed to take part in discussions. with Moderator's permission, but shall have no vote.

7. All members of the body are expected to be present through· out the session unless excused by Moderator.

8. No person shall be allowed to nominate more than one officer or committeeman if his nomination is elected.

9. The Moderator must not allow any discussion to be carried on in an unchristain spirit.

10. The person who desires to speak must first arise and address the Moderator, and when recognized, shall proceed.

11. The votes on any question must be counted upon request of one-fifth of members present.

12. No member shall be allowed to speak more than ten minutes. nor twice on arne subject unless given permission bY the Moderator.

REPORT OF HOME MISSION BOARD

We the Home Mission Board direct that the following named cht!r _::~s at H::.milton and Jasper be given $100.00 each for the ex· pansion work.

We recommend that each church give a written report to the Secretary-Treasurer that she can send the report to the National Board.

The new church at Hamilton was organized by Revs. Ryland and Hudson.

Rev. Lambert organized the new one at Jasper. We are in need of new members, and recommend that Rev. J . toL.

Lavender, Bro. Roland Dean and Sister H. C. Killen be added the Board. We also recommend that in printing the personnel of the Board the year of retiring be printed.

We do hereby make the following recommendations: 1. Be it Resolved That we remind the recording Clerk of the

inadvertent error of failing to carry the adopted change of Section nx in the constitution as reported by the Business Committee of the 1949 session.

2. Be it Resolved That this body elect a State Promotional Secretary to promote and direct a publicity campaign in the interest of all Phases of our work over the state.

BY-LAWS

The adoption of By-Laws of National Association. l 1. The clerk or the assistant clerk, or in their absence, the

senior minister in years shan· call the association into conference i if a quorum is present. The Moderator , or in h is absence, the ~ ~..ssistant Moderator shall take charge ; and if neither of tbeJil f 1s present the senior minister in years shall act as moderator. f

2. It shall be the duty of the clerk to enroll the delegates l to the association who shall present themselves with propel" evidence of their rights to seats therein, and those enrolled bY the clerk ~hall compose the association. In case of questionable repr~ sentatwn, however, the case under question shall be referred to th credential committee.

3. It shall be the duty of everybody belonging to this association I to send a letter to every annual session of this association reporting in the same its spiritual condition, benevolent work, and i~ statiStiCS~ Any body belonging to this session may be dimissed from th association by a t~o-thirds vote of all members present. e

6. This association may correspond by ~essenger or otherwise with other religious bodies. .

7. This association shall sit with open doors except when 1t shall go into a committee of the whole.

8. AnY person not a member of this. a?sociation. ~ay be allowed to take part in its discussion by obtammg perm1ss1on from the moderator. · t· to b s. I t. shall be the duty of all members of the assoc1a 1on . . e present at the time appointed for each meeting and anyone WlShing to retire shall first obtain leave from the moderator. .

10. No member shall absent himself from the association during it meetings without first obtaining permission from the moderator.

11. No person shall be allowed to nominate more than one mem­ber of any committee provided the person nominated be elected.

12. The moderator shall not allow discussions when not carried on in a Christian spirit or when he thinks it will cause discord or division.

13. Anyone desiring to speak shall arise to his feet and address the moderator by the appellation "brother moderator," but shall not speak further until recognized by the moderator.

14. The "yeas" and "nays" may be counted on any question by request of one-fifth of the members present.

15. No member of this association shall be allowed to speak r..ore than ten minutes nor twice on the same subject without permission from the moderator .

16. It sh all be t he duty of the moderator to seat delegates in a body in a designat ed section of the assembly room at the beginning of each business session.

17. These By-Laws may be altered or amended at any regular or adjourned session of this association by a two-thirds vote of the li1embers present.

CONSTITUTION

NAME-This body shall be know as the " ALABAMA STATE I.S...~CIATION OF FREE wn..L BAPTIST."

SEAL-This Ala.bama State Association of Free Will Baptist adopt the treatise of the National Association in faith and practice. PraYing for the day when we shall be one in Christ.

SEC. II.-'I'he officers of the State Association shall be a MOderator, Assistant Moderator, Secretary and Treaurer , Assistant Secretary and Executive Board. ~ 'I'hese officers are elective. Ot her officers being appointed as

4oderator may need or desire. SEc.-lll.-This association shall be composed of all active,

0~dained ministers and deacons who are members of an Association or c~urch, which is a member of this body and duly elect ed or apPomted delegates of district association or church .

fee of said church be the sum of $20.00. ARTICLE II-FINANCE-Each district Association send the sum of

$15<.0)1 annual fee and $5.00 National Association fee with the annual report. And each minister and deacon pay t he sum of $1.00 regisration fee to help carry on the expense of the Association.

SEC. V.-The secretary shall be paid $15.00 and the moderator $10.00 3.llnually for th eir services rendered. All other expenditures not specified shall be made at the direction of the body.

ARTICLE II.-DISCIPLI~The State Association shall have the right to settle any question of discipline, docrine or practice that may properly come before it from any of the bodies composing the State Association of Free Will Baptist churches or act upon any appeal that may be made by any body belonging to the State Association. Said appeal having been properly _signed by the con­stituent body or Lodies and its decision shall be final.

SEC. VI.-All appeals coming before the State Association may be settled in either of the following ways: (1) By the State Association sitting in a committee as a whole. (2.) By a special com,mittee ap­pointed by the Executive Board, whose report shall be voted on without discussion.

ARTICLE II.-The Moderator of the State Association of Free Will Baptist shall be regarded as an ex-official member of all Boards or committees elected or appointed.

ARTICLE TIL- Each elected officer shall serve for a period of t wo (2) years. Elections coming on the even years.

The appointed officers or committees serving at the direction of the Moderator or until dismissed by the Moderator. ill

ARTICLE IV.-MEETINGS-The state Association of Free W Baptist shall hold its regular meetings annually. Place of meeting to be decided by a vote of the body. The time of meeting to be on Thursday night before the second Sunday in November of each year. And to rernain in session until its work is completed. d t

ARTICLE V.- This Constitution may be amended or altere a any regular seggion of the State Association by a two-thirds vote ~ members present; provided proposed amendment be presented . writing to the body and shall lie on the table at least from morniilg session till evening session, ot from evening session till mor:~~ session prior to adoption and shall during that time be rea least twice in open session.

PROCEEDINGS

The first annual session of the Alabama State League Conven-tion met with Cordova Church at Cordova, Alabama on June 2, 1950.

l The service began with congregational songs, "Tell it to Jesus alone" and '"Leaning on the Everlasting Arms," directed by Rev. A. J.

1 Lambert. - We then sang our League Theme song, Onward Christian f Leaguers. ~ The opening Prayer was given by the Rev .. Luther Gibson of I Tupelo, Miss.

The welcome address of the League Conventon was given by Mrs. Lorene Ryland of Cordova Church. The Response to the welcome was given by Mrs. Merrel Dyers of Samantha, Ala.

The reading of letters was called for by the President, Rev. J. j D. O'Donnell.

LUNCH HOUR

The afternoon services were opened by a song, Th row Out the I Life Line, and a prayer given by Miss Annie Lou Shellnu t.

The devotional was given by Miss Louise Lambert. The time was then given to the afternoon mesage. Rev. Chester O'Donnell gave a grand message on "Stewardship

and our Money." We then had a round t able discussion on organization prospects

led by Rev. Luther Gibson of Tupelo, Miss. After the Discussion, Bro. Luther Gibson rendered us a wonderful

message in son. The title of the ong was "Why Should H eLove Me So." The next message given was entitled, "Free Will Baptist League

\~alue to the Church." Which was so strikingly given by Rev. W. B. P..yland of Eldridge Ala.

The next thing on program was the wonderful message brought to us by Miss Annie Lou Shellnut of Winfield. She spoke to us about our prospects in our young people.

Bro. J . T. Juick gave us our next message which was on steward· ship and the League.

PROCEEDINGS

The first annual session of the Alabama State Sunday School l convention met with Cordova Chrch at Cordova. Alabama, on June

l 3, 1950. The services were opened by a song "I Love to tell the Story,"

f directed by Rev. A. J. Lambert. The opening prayer was given by Bro. McAdams. After the prayer we hact a short devotional given to us by Rev.

Wilburn Beasley of Winfield. The welcome address to the Sunday School Convention was given

by Sistter Lavelle Short of Cordova Church. The response to the welcome was given by Sister Annie Lou Shellnut of Winfield, Ala.

We next had short talks by the Sunday School Superintendents of our Sunday Schools, who were present.

The n ext 111essage of the day was "Stewardship and Loyalty to Sunday School," aiven by Mrs. Essie Collins.

Th e next thing on program was the taking of the offering for the Children 's Home. Bro. Ryland explained the work of the Home and told of the immediate needs of it. After his message the offering for th e home was taken, which amounted t o $53.10.

We then had the Eleven O'clock message which everyone so thoroughly enjoj·ed given t o us by Rev. Damm an c. Dodd of Nashville, '.f'ennessee.

We were dismissed for lunch by th e Rev. J. T. Quick.

LUNCH

The evening services were opened by con gregational singinl!. The songs sung were "Oh, How I Love Jesus", and "Take thy Name of J esus With Ybu," and also "Bringing in the Sheaves."

The devotional services of the afternoon were conducted by Mrs. LuP--er Gibson.

We then enjoyed th e message that was given to us by Rev. Ch arles 'l'higpen of Nashville, Tennessee.

We next had a special song by the Cordova Church Trio. TheY sang "The Old Time Reliaion Song."

It was also recommended that we pay the expense of the speakers from Nashville. A move was made that we do so. It was seconded and carried.

The move was made that we receive the report of the business committee and bring up each item of business one at a time.

Report of Registration committee was given as follows: 39 Delegates. 15 Ministers. 5 Deacons. The President gave a call for any new business. Discussion of having minute made of this convention. A rr.ove was made that we ha.ve the minutes of this session

printed. This was seconded and carried. Move was made that we have the minutes of this session wrote

up ana ready, and when the states minutes are fiXed that the minutes go in our state minutes. The move met with a second and waa carried.
