Please tu~n in production car weights to Assistant Race Steward Dan Rowland.

It was a pleasure to see the new pavement at Westwood.

Have you thought about not wearing wrist watches while racing? They could prove to be i:real danger in case of accident or fire.

FROM THE RACE STEWARD, JOHN KENDREW: Westwood, June 21/22

The first Conference race after a long layoff always seems to draw a large entry. Westwood was no exception.with well in excess of 200 entries. Large grids always seem to cause problems - this time with timing. A special drivers' meeting was held on Saturday to ensure that everyone knew that they would have to turn in times.

Another weekend, another race. Seattle lucked out again - no rain. IRDC faced a tight squeeze on time and did its best. Saturday ran off like clockwork despite a few minor setbacks, but Sunday was different. Everything was fine until the all formula race which saw four cars damaged enough to require a wrecker and five

. flat-towed in. Three of these were caused by one accident. Car #01 crashed into cars 29 and 19 which were parked (for various reasons) in turn 2. The exact cause was not determined but 01 is probably a write-off and the other two were heavily damaged. This carnage was followed by two massive engine blow-ups in the following races. Car 137 and car 30 layed down huge swathes of oil. All of the above put the races behind schedule. I realize that this worked a hardship on the last two races, which had to be shortened. Don't blame the organizers, for they don't set the time limits they have to work under.

I am disturbed by the antics of the formula drivers in race 3. That race had more infractions than any other two races that weekend. What's with you guys?! Did you take your brains out before putting your helmets on? --Altogether a bad show that I hope will not be repeated.

During Saturday morning practice car 750 rolled in turn 2, which was relatively minor. What was serious is that the car's cockpit was awash with gas within seconds of the shunt. Drivers of production cars should take a close look at their cars with an eye to preventing such fuel leakage. 240Z Datsuns in particular should seal the fuel system away from the cockpit.

Another technical point which arises is that of roll bar height. A lot of you formula car drivers are violating the regulations. The tops of your helmets are not a minimum of one inch below the bar. Have someone check this for you because we will be checking. If you don't meet the regulations you won't be racing.

The scales were working at SIR so we weighed some cars. Car 11 in the formula race. was found to be 70 (?I?) J~~rnds underweight and was disqualified. Car 197, E production, was found to be of legal weight but was dis~lified when it was noticed that it had no passenger seat.

As a parting note please remember that the end of the season is fast approaching (we are half way there) so start thinking about rule changes. All Contest Board Representatives should have their club rule change proposals to me by September 21. Also, driver-of-the-year nominations should be in by then.

FROM THE LICENSE DIRECTOR, DOUG BLACKBURN:

Basically all the novice races, Seattle, Westwood and Portland, have been very clean. Most drivers seem to have now learned that the yellow flag means '~o

passing."

There are some drivers waiting for their up-grades to ARR (X) or IRR (senior). These licenses will be issued upon completion of the required scoring, tech. and turn work.

The following points need to be remembered: *Until you have an IRR license, you must report in to the License Director. *ARR drivers must attend novice drivers meetings, ~nd if entered on Sunday in a senior race, must attend the senior drivers meeting.

*You must show at drivers registration: -valid driver's license, state or provincial -current competition license -current ICSCC club card

I would like to thank the senior drivers, open and closed wheel, for their support in observation of the novice races. Your critiques have been most helpful.
