Volume 58 No. 1 July-August 2017 Our 93rd Year

Brothers,

As we start a new Columbian Year I am both happy & humbled

to accept the position of Grand Knight. Although I am a little

nervous, I have already received a vote of confidence as well as

advice and guidance from the many members I have had the pleasure

of getting to know. I will continue to look to my brother Knights for

their fraternal advisory throughout this year. Joining this wonderful

organization, I have learned the meaning of friendship and loyalty

and hope to be able to live up to the title of Grand Knight. Also,

congratulations to Past Grand Knight Tom Zegers for a job well done.

I hope to be able to follow in his footsteps and serve in the same way.

By the time this letter goes to print and you receive this letter we will

already have accomplished a few important goals.

1. The C & B program will be underway for 2017-2018. We kick this important fundraiser off at

the annual Hicksville Street Fair on July 16th. Led this year by Deputy Grand Knight Arthur

Traylor we are confident we will have another successful year. As always, we look for your

support so we can continue our charitable works.

2. This year’s Joseph Barry Council awards were held on June 20th. That night we recognize

outstanding work done throughout the past year as well as awarding any scholarships.

3. The Villa Roma Golf Outing was on June 25, 26 & 27

4. The Hawaiian Night Dance which was resurrected from past years was held on Saturday June

10th.

5. Lastly, the Joseph Barry Golf Outing was on July 8th & 9th.

We hope to continue to bring you fun activities which will help us raise money for our charities.

Before I close, I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Independence Day, July 4th. We must always

remember to honor and celebrate those who served, those who continue to serve and those who made the

ultimate sacrifice. We have our freedom because of their service.

My thanks to the members for trusting me with this great honor and I hope to be able to live up to this

office to the best of by ability this coming year.

Vivat Jesu

Think You Are Too Old for Coverage? Maybe Not

You are never too young or too old to consider

purchasing life insurance. If you have a financial need

for coverage, or will in the future, a permanent life

insurance policy can be just the thing you need.

When you are young and presumably healthy,

coverage will be very inexpensive when compared to

purchasing the same policies when you are older.

If you’ve put off purchasing coverage, or you realize

that you may need additional insurance, the Order

may still be able to help you, even if other companies

cannot. In fact, in 2012, the issue age of our

permanent life insurance products was extended to

age 80, and in 2014, the issue age of our term

insurance was extended to age 70. Naturally, your

health, and whether or not you smoke, will be

taken into consideration, so underwriting

standards for risk and age apply. But, the

extensions are a great blessing for me – and it

could be for you too. Now I can help members that

I couldn’t help before. Are you or one of your

brother knights one of those members?

Whether you’re 18 or 80, the Knights of Columbus

has products that will work for you and your family.

I look forward to discussing coverage with you.

Joseph Barry Council Revives Hawaiian Night

After an absence of more than 20 years, Brian Dunker and Don Cleary chaired the reintroduction of Hawaiian Night as a Council event on June 10th. Both the hall and the attendees were decked out in their best tropical looks. The night included exotic drinks and food and was capped by the performance of professional Hawaiian dancers - later joined by amateur “volunteers”. All in all, it was a rousing success.

Event organizers Marie & Brian Dunker and Carol & Don Cleary with the Hawaiian dancers.
