The Tognana family started an industrial brick factory more than two centuries ago in �775. The present tableware company was established in �946 and soon passed from making majolica to porcelain using traditional systems of firing, spinning and glazing.Today Tognana is the largest Italian group for the production of porcelain tableware both for household and institutional use.A dynamic Company which is behind the times and which has invested huge resources not only in the production but also in logistics and facilities in order to improve the product quality as well as the service to its own clients.
Laboratory tested qualityTognana porcelain is subject to careful laboratory controls, also in collaboration with the Ceramic Centre of Bologna and the Experimental Station of Glass in Venice. Washing tests with industrial dish-washers, tests of metallic abrasion and mechanical resistance guarantee the high quality standard. Our glaze and our patterns, checked also by the American Food & Drug Administration completely satisfy the rules required by the rigid norms of US “Proposition 65”, which require very low limits for the contents of heavy metals.
Resistant feldspar porcelainPorcelain is, after the diamond, the hardest material. First class raw materials, years of experience and a rigorous quality assurance system, guarantee Tognana porcelain’s excellent strength. No other class of ceramic products offers the same characteristics.

Heat retentionTognana porcelain has excellent heat retention characteristics. Hot beverages served in Tognana porcelain retain their heat longer than when served in other types of ceramics.
Glazed rims and polished feetAll Tognana Hotel products have smoothly polished feet to prevent the scratching of tables and scratching between plates when stacked. As well, the rims of all cups are glazed for maximum durability and stain prevention.
Dishwasher safe decorationAll Tognana decorations for the hotel division are resistant to more than one thousand washes in the dishwasher. The high firing temperature fuses the decoration permanently into the glaze so it will not suffer from heavy use and repeated cycles in industrial dishwashing machines.
Resistance of the edge ( no chip )A design oriented to the specific characteristics of the products makes it possible to give resistance to those critical points such as the edges of plates and cups. This has been accomplished without damaging the aesthetics and with a very low weight increase. Limited danger in case of breakage
Unlike glass, which breaks into many dangerous shards, porcelain breaks cleanly into more safely manageable pieces. The pictures of the tests clearly show the difference.
Perfect functionalityA product specifically designed for the hotel and restaurant division has to be absolutely functional. In some of our lines all the items are stackable, even the tea pot and coffee pot. Cappuccino/tea cups, soup cups and mugs can be used with the same saucer in order to rationalize the use.
Resistance to scratchesThe high firing temperature to which our porcelain is exposed guarantees a strong resistance to scratches and the abrasions caused by normal kitchen utensils. This is important not only for the aesthetics, but above all for the sanitary characteristics.
Sanitaty characteristicsOur porcelain is completely vitrified, it is resistant to micro cracks and thus absolutely impenetrable by detergents and organic residues. Therefore it is sanitary.
