I
Wow! What a term. Can I take this opportunity to thank all the children and staff for their hard work during this term. It has been busy!
Last week we had parent consultation evenings. If you didn’t get the chance to come in and meet your child’s class teacher please feel free to make an appointment for next term. Thank you to those parents and carers that attended. It was lovely to see so many of you.
This week all the children attended a performance of Charlotte’s Web, this was funded by the PTA. All the children were mesmerised by the performance and Miss Sadler’s class rushed back to class and started to act out their own version. Please see pictures on page 5. I am pleased to confirm we have booked ‘The Railway Children’ for next year.
We have also had out first ‘School Spirit Day’. This was a real success. 43 parents and carers joined us for breakfast and a whole school assembly. They then worked alongside their children and staff within the school environment. We planted bulbs, made bird feeders and boxes, painted murals, made wind chimes and created a school cheer. We cleared and tided our garden and woodland areas ready for a gardening club to start. There was a real ’buzz’ in school all day with several parents staying until after 5pm to finish the work they had started. This has made a real difference to our outdoor learning environment. Pictures on page 2. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a restful half term break and remind you that we return to school on Monday 2nd November.
Dogs
Polite reminder that we do not allow dogs (of ANY SIZE) on our
school grounds.
Nor should they be tied up to our railings and left
unattended.
Thank you for your
understanding.
BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT TOOK PART IN OUR SPIRIT DAY. WE HOPE YOU ARE FEELING AS PROUD OF ACHIEVEMENTS AS WE ARE. YOU HAVE MADE A REAL
DIFFERENCE.

PTFA AGM - New Committee members needed
On Wednesday 04th November at 3:30pm, St Leonard's
Church of England Primary PTFA will be holding their AGM.
This is a very important meeting, as new committee members
are being sought.
Positions available are:
Chair
Vice-chair
Treasurer
Ordinary committee members
The PTFA have previously organised events such as the
Christmas Fair, the Summer Fair, fashion shows, quiz nights and
discos. The funds raised from these events have been used to
support the academy in many ways. We purchased the slide for
the Reception Classes, helped fund the boat structure on the
academy field. The PTFA has subsidized school trips and
additional educational equipment, as well as paying for a
production of "Charlotte's Web", for all the children to
enjoy. (see pg 5)
If you feel you have something to offer, or would enjoy
supporting the school by supporting the PTFA, then please come
along to the meeting.
If you have any queries, please contact Clare Thomas
(out-going Chair) via the academy office.
Charlotte's Webb
On Wednesday all of our pupils watched the performance ‘Charlotte's Webb. There was lots of laughter coming from the
hall! Here are a few pictures taken during the performance.

Cross Country
Cross Country
On Wednesday I had a really big day lined up because I had a competition called ‘Cross Country’. We went to the small hall to get dressed and we were all very excited! Mr Ray explained what would happen once we were there. We chose a partner and went on our way to St Leonards Academy. My partner was Callum. We were worried we would fall over each other and lose the race. We were anxious about our race but also very excited. When we got to the field it was very muddy. The 1st race was Y3 & 4. They were all very excited, then ‘1, 2, 3 GO!! Five children from our school were in the top 15 which means they will qualify for the
semi-finals! The girls raced next and three girls qualified for the semi finals.
It was my turn next, I saw my mum, my nan and by brother Charlie. That made me really scared as I wanted to do my best! The lady announcing the race shouted 3, 2, 1, GO! I tried my hardest, running past my old football mates. The field was really big and I had to run up a really big hill but I didn't give up. I ran through the woods, and almost slipped over as it was muddy. I finished in 23rd place. Freddie and Charlie came in the top 15 which was really good. We all had a fantastic
day!

We have just been notified that out of 30 runners from the school 21 have qualified for the next round of Cross Country. We have the highest number of children qualifying in the
Rother Area.
We are incredibly proud of all the children that took part in the event. They all demonstrated
strength, courage and perseverance.
Well done everyone we are very proud of
you.
On Wednesday 7th October our school took a team of 30 children to the St Leonards Academy to take part in the primary schools cross country competition.
The children represented the school with pride and were a credit to themselves and the school. Every single child gave their all and performed brilliantly with some excellent results.
Year 4 & 5 pier visit & beach art
Can you spot the whale, crab,
shark and jellyfish?
Last week the pupils in Swordfish, Hammerhead and Toadfish visited Hastings Pier as part of their studies on local History. They took part in workshops about the history of the pier and also had an opportunity to observe the rebuilding process, walking on the pier
and seeing how it was being constructed. In the afternoon they worked in small groups to construct beach art, which left members of the public amazed and astounded at their
creative skills, attention to detail and delightful attitude to leaning behaviour. Well done St Leonard’s pupils!!
Concentration in the workshop!
Have you seen our……….
Each class in our school has a blog and these are updated weekly. You can take a look at what is going on in school and see what your child is up to.
Teachers also post homework and links to educational websites.

Dear Parents & Carers
Most children at school have now have a chance to take part in Forest School sessions and we would like to invite parents and carers to
learn more about Forest School and visit our new Forest School site
in the wooded area adjacent to the school. If you have any queries,
questions, worries, or would just like to come and see (and have a go
at) what we get up to at Forest School then we would love to see
you.
We will run two sessions on Monday the 2nd November (the first day back after half-term) to
enable as many people to come as possible. The first will run from 09:00 – 10:00 and the second
from 15:30 -16:30.
If you would like to attend please text the school text number on 01424 400005 to confirm your
attendance.
Please come dressed according to the weather as we will visit the Forest School site. Babies and
young children are welcome but please be aware that the site is likely to be muddy and there are
steps and uneven ground. There is a toilet on site.
Kind regards,
Mike Berry

School dinners
Please note that when we returned back to school in September, school meals have
increased by 1p to £2.03.
Please ensure that you send your child in to school with
dinner money every day or weekly in advance unless they are YR—Y2 or in receipt of a free
school meal. Please name your child’s wallet or purse.
Free School Meal forms can be obtained from
the school office if you wish to apply.
Have a nice half term, see you on Monday 2nd November!
Holidays during term time
School will not be able to authorise any
holidays during term time unless exceptional
circumstances.
As part of Government guidelines schools must complete paperwork once a holiday is
taken and send on to County Hall’s Legal Team. Should you wish to appeal against your request
for absence being unauthorised, this must be done once you have received your response
from school and send to the Headteacher. The fine for taking your child out of school is £120 per parent, per child, which reduces to £60 if
paid within 21 days.
If you do still need to request an absence from school you must complete a ‘request for absence form’ obtained from our office and send it back 14 days before you intend to take your
child out of school.
