He joined Logicain March 2008 as Senior Vice President of Sales andMarketing. He previously was employed at EDS andBearingPoint where he specialized in trans-nationaloperations, helping global clients in the oil and gas, utilities, manufacturing and financial services industries solve business problems and improve operational efficiencies through global outsourcing, process improvement, and management consulting.
Josh will discuss Facilitating the new Gulf ofMexico Operating Environment. Oil and gas companiesoperate in a difficult and uncertain political and environmental landscape. A number of factors aredriving this trend from the changes at BOEM andBSEE to recent events in the Gulf of Mexico. New certification and reporting requirements and the everincreasing requests for information have put an additional burden on operators and services companiesas well as regulatory agencies. As a result, oil and gascompanies, who traditionally did not share informationwith competitors or government agencies, are exploringnew ways of collaborating, sharing sensitive informationsuch as commercial, health and safety and regulatorydata. This has led companies to recognize the bene-fits of greater sharing and that major changes inareas such as health and safety cannot be achievedworking in isolation. Hear how Logica, in collaborationwi th EP IM, the Exp lo ra t ion and Produc t ionInformation Management Association, addressedthese regulatory and informational challenges with asecure collaboration solution.

■ Take a minute to learn more about the Rigs to Reefs program that transforms obsolete oil production platforms into artificial reefs.
■ Try your hand at becoming an offshore worker while you don coveralls and hard hats at the dress up station.
■ Explore the interactive videos to meet “The Rig Crew”.
■ You can visit the photo op exhibit featuring two life-size offshore workers with face cutouts and get another chance to join the offshore workforce.
■ Learn about the many different careers available in the offshore industry at the new career exhibit.
■ Take the interest quiz and see where you might fit in this exciting industry.
■ In addition to these games and activities, our younger visitors will find the "Passport to Petroleum" entertaining and educational while other guests can take part in scavenger hunts set up throughout the museum.
Enjoy These Activities During Ocean Star’s 15th Anniversary Weekend
The Ocean Star marks its 15th anniversary on April 27,2012. To commemorate this milestone, the museum is offer-ing FREE admission for Friday, April 27, and will observe itsregular hours of 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. In addition to being able tovisit all the exhibits, models, and interactive displays about
offshore energy, visitors can participate in a variety of hands-onactivities. The activities described below will focus on variousexhibits in the museum to provide more information about themany facets of the offshore oil and gas industry.
Ocean Star hosts tour and reception for teachersThe Ocean Star hosted a tour and reception January 13 for the teachers attending the
T-STEM (Texas Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) conference that weekat Moody Gardens. The reception was one of the extracurricular activities offered duringthe conference. Guided tours were conducted and the teachers were able to visit withindustry representatives from several companies and organizations to learn firsthand aboutthe various aspects of the offshore oil and gas industry. Companies and organizations represented included Leonard Hale, Vice President, Operations for Gulf Copper DryDock and Rig Repair; Bob Hanley, RDH Energy and API Houston; George Hanst,Wayne Enterprises and API and AADE Houston Chapters; Sandi Peppeard, NationalOilwell Varco - World Area Sales Coordinator for the Middle East/North Africa andRussia; and Dub Shook, API Houston Chapter President and his wife Rhonda, amongothers. Hercules Offshore and Halliburton Company representatives also provided give-aways so no teacher left the reception empty handed.
Numerous drawings were held during the evening for prizes of gift cards.
Teachers from the Texas Science, Technology, Engineering &Mathematics (T-STEM) conference held in Galveston enjoy horsd'oeuvres during the reception aboard the Ocean Star. Theteachers were treated to guided tours of the rig and museum as well as visited with industry representatives.
Tours and activities keep Ocean Starstaff busy
The first part of this year has been extremely busy for the OceanStar staff and docents with Boy Scout merit badge activities, studentand other tours, and overseeing the installation of several newand expected exhibits. For example, in February Boy Scouts visitedthe Ocean Star as part of the requirement to earn their Energy meritbadge.
Recent student tours included a group of engineering studentsfrom a Houston ISD magnet school that IPAA has sponsored for the past several years. Ocean Star Docent Levi Loya, a maritimeengineering student at Texas A&M Galveston, guided the studentsthrough the museum. In other tours, students from TexasConnections Academy, an online public school, visited the rig andmuseum in February for a tour and activity, which was Hear, HearEngineer, an activity that involves making an object with Legos andwriting instructions so another student can make the same object. The students also had a good time putting on clothes typical of anoffshore worker.
Last, but certainly not least, HISD Partnerships sponsoredtours for several schools February 21-24. The Partnership providedadmission and buses for the 328 students. Schools representedincluded Washington High, Chrysalis Middle, Attucks Middle,Woodson Middle, Stevenson Middle, Jordan Middle, and CliftonMiddle. Some of the attending students were hand-picked based ontheir studies such as the students from Woodson Middle School whowere interested in robotics and technology. Others were selectedbecause their schools did not have funding for field trips. MoreHISD schools were scheduled to visit in late March.

Education OutreachEducation Outreach
There are many misconceptions regarding the energy industry. The major goal of the Offshore Energy Center’s education outreachprograms, and in particular the Project E 3: Expanding EnergyEducation teacher guide, is to help the teachers educate their students about the offshore oil and gas industry using scientificallyaccurate and factual information. The second edition of OEC’sProject E3: Expanding Energy Education is now available andincludes 26 new activities, resulting in a total of 50 classroom hands-on activities. Among the new features in the guide are sections oncareers in engineering, mapping the ocean floor, environmentallysensitive zones, offshore lease sales, recycling, rock mechanics,
petrochemicals, drillingwells, geologic events, and even an activity on shale and hydraulicfracturing. All of theactivities are correlatedto national and stateteaching standardsand many are cross-curricula, allowingteachers to teach anenergy component inother disciplines.
We would liketo thank everyonewho contributed tothis second editionof the Project E 3:
Expanding Energy Education teacher guide. As in the first edition, anamazing number of dedicated professionals have volunteered theirtime to write, pilot test, field test, edit, and review activities for thisguide all of whom were led by the lead writer, Doris Tomas, OEC’sEducation Director. We are especially grateful to those who madethis project possible and a note of gratitude and appreciation to theAADE for funding the first edition and continuing its support forthis second edition. We also want to thank BP, ConocoPhillips,National Oilwell Varco and Shell Oil Company for their financialsupport, without which this second edition would not have beenpossible.
A note of thanks goes to all the test educators, scientists, andindustry personnel who gave their time to review and pilot the activities for both editions. All of the teachers who wrote, rewrote, reviewed and edited this guide are amazing. Their dynamic dedicationis an admirable asset to this program.
Second edition of Project E3

The offshore petroleum industry has takenastounding leaps in technical and commercialknow-how in a relativity short time.
The Offshore Energy Center (OEC) commis-sioned author F. Jay Schempf to writePioneering Offshore: The Early Years aboutthe offshore petroleum development fromits beginning in the late nineteenth century, through the mid-1960’s. It incorporates, first hand (on location)stories from the Pioneers inducted intothe OEC’s Hall of Fame. Industry andTechnology Pioneers provide a historicalcontext for their contributions in theindustry’s advancement and in thedevelopment of its distinct technologiesduring this time period.
Pioneering Offshore provides a narrative that, while as chronologically and historicallyaccurate as possible, remains true also to the industry’s human spirit. This book offers anintimate feel for the industry’s early years and will be essential to grasping the enormousscope of the search for offshore oil and gas during subsequent decades.
We are pleased to provide you with the opportunity to read our story at the special price of$45.00 plus shipping.
