Welcome to Odyssey 2016! The day will get started with an incredibly inspirational opening keynote presentation where stories of reconciliation will be shared. Building upon the morning keynote, a wide range of professional development opportunities will follow with an Aboriginal theme. These sessions will provide a number of insights into ways that educators can embed Aboriginal themes into the new curriculum and support our Aboriginal learners. Additional workshops will focus upon self-regulation, outdoor education, assessment, reporting, numeracy, literacy, maker spaces, careers, inclusion, UDL, ELL, and technology. Once again, a wide array of offerings! Thank you to all of our presenters for making this such an enriching day for our staff – it takes courage to share educational practices with colleagues. In addition, I would like to express my appreciation for our
outstanding Professional Services staff. It is going to be an awesome day!

The expectations are high for our Odyssey program and yet each year is better than the previous one. The plenary keynote, “Stories of Reconciliation: Courage and Community” will start the day and set the tone for a day of learning on the part of the attendees and sharing on the part of the presenters. A sincere ‘thank you’ to those that have stepped forward to share their expertise and make the day valuable to colleagues. Thank you also to the many staff and students that assist in making this day the outstanding event that it is – Professional Services, Instructional Services, Maintenance and Transportation, Clerical Resources, CUPE 1260 and 1851, the LPVPA, and the Langley Teachers’ Association – everyone coming together with the common goal of enriching the educational experience for students in Langley.
Suzanne Hoffman, Superintendent of Schools
