OCTOBER NEWSLETTER Dear Parents, Happy fall! It’s hard to believe that we are already in our second math of school. Some highlights from September include: Meeting our 7 th grade buddies for the first time, learning about energy and electricity in science, practicing addition and subtraction of numbers up to 1,000, reading as “writers” (this means that when we read, we look for what inspires us to want to make our writing even better), adding “magic” to our writing (details, similes), and exploring the evolution of natural spaces in San Francisco over time (ask you child to tell you about the book, Popville ). This month we look forward to: 2 fieldtrips into San Francisco to explore some natural spaces in the city, continuing to investigate electricity, a math new unit on graphing and data collection, learning more about the editing process in writer’s workshop, deepening our reading comprehension strategies by making inferences, connections, and predictions, working on cursive and keyboarding, another time with out buddies, and perhaps finishing our read aloud, Masterpiece . Have a wonderful fall weekend. See you Tuesday! Sarah BLACKBERRY ROOM
