COURSE DESCRIPTION: This 2- day live workshop, facilitated by top industry professionals, helps you learn what’s needed for your organization to get the job done safely, on time, and on budget. The course is constructed in modules presented in segments to meet specific needs of the audience. Each student will leave the class with a manual for future reference. Take your skills to a whole new level with this opportunity to learn about the newest techniques, tips, and technology in the construction inspection industry. Advanced Construction Inspection is packed with the latest information in the construction inspection industry including practical techniques and real-world examples. Hansen’s Summit
Hansen’s Tree Service and Environmental Resources invites all interested green industry folks to attend our 2017 Sum-mit. The free event will include educational workshops covering tree topics, climbing techniques, and the process and uses for recycled wood products. A total of 4 ISA CEU’s will be available (pending approval). The event is also a chance to share some time with industry professionals and enjoy some SugarFire BBQ and beverages provided by our friends at Friendship Brewing Company. Many fun events are planned, including cross-cut saw competition, punkin chunkin (tis the season), and tours of the Hansen Facility. Join us in O’Fallon, MO (104 Hansen Court) on Friday Octo-ber 13 from 1-7pm. The attached flyer contains details. St. Louis Branch September 20, 2017Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order by Bryson Baker, who then led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and gave the Invocation. Bryson also welcomed everyone from APA in attendance. The total attendance was approximately 35 from APA and 95 from AP-WA. Lunch Announcements-Bryson Baker Scott Hanson, President of APA, made announcements regarding upcoming APA events, including their state conference in Springfield in October. Bryson stated that PWX was in Orlando August 26th-30th. The Missouri Chapter had a large contingent, with good fellowship and learning for all. Chris Boyd, President of the Missouri Chapter of APWA announced that New Orleans was successful in their bid to host the 2020 PWX over St. Louis. The 2021 PWX was awarded to Charlotte, NC. However, in recent weeks, it has become apparent that Charlotte’s new convention center will not be ready in time, so APWA has awarded the 2021 PWX to St. Louis and moved Char-lotte to 2022 CONTINUING EDUCATION AND TRAINING COMMITTEE A PW Director’s roundtable was held at 10:30, prior to the luncheon. We had a good discussion, and thanks goes out to Anne Lamitola and Jim Eckrich for organizing the event. There will be another in the spring. The Superintendents will have their own Roundtable prior to the October luncheon. SPECIAL EVENTS & ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE We had a team compete in the EWB Fundraiser Kickball tournament on September 9th. The YP Committee is hosted a Happy Hour on August 31st at “Pieces”. Thank you to all who took part. We are in the process of setting up a Happy Hour with SITE in November. More information will follow. Fall Conference (October 29th-31st in Columbia) The Conference will be at the Holiday Inn Executive Center. The Sunday Get Acquainted Social will be at the SportsZone and sponsored by Corrective Asphalt Materials. The Monday night Dinner will be at Shakespeare’s and sponsored by Missouri Petrole-um. Colleen West reported that only five booths remain, so potential exhibitors should contact Colleen soon. Registration for ex-hibitors and attendees is available online. Earlybird registration ends October 14th. ADVOCACY AND OUTREACH COMMITTEE For the past four years, the St. Louis Branch of the Missouri Chapter APWA has adopted families from Crisis Family Nursery dur-ing the holiday season to provide a brighter Christmas morning to those in need. After the second year, we expanded our efforts and adopted multiple families through your charitable contributions and donations, and have continued to pursue two families last year and again this year. Our May raffle raised $720 and today’s raised $615. The next raffle will be in December. After the December luncheon, the com-mittee will use the money to purchase gifts for our adopted families. Thank you to the companies who donated prizes for today, and congratulations to the winners. Each received a $25 gift card. Speaker Jason Hanson introduced our speaker for the day, Nathan Nickolaus of Cunningham, Vogel, and Rost, P.C. The presentation was entitled “Keeping Yourself and Your Employer Out of Hot Water”. Closing Announcements The next meeting will be Thursday, October 26th at Orlando’s. Meeting adjourned.
