As you can imagine, we use a lot of power here. Help us

to save energy. If you’re the last person in the room and

you leave, turn the lights out. If you’re going in, turn

them on. It’s that simple. If you’re unsure whether to

turn them off or on, just ask. Thank you for your help!

As of June 1, we started giving our best

Senior Center effort at going “greener”! The

final initiative is listed below—we appreciate ALL YOUR

HELP to achieve our goals of reducing waste, and becoming

a Senior Center that cares about our environment. Now let’s

work together to be GREEN! Previous Month: Save trees -

PROGRAMS TO ATTEND

4 | Senior Center | 4

The Telephone Reassurance program offers a

way local seniors can keep in touch and let us

know that they’re ok—or if they need

assistance. Participants call the Senior Center

daily at a pre-arranged time to check in.

Volunteers record the time the participant calls,

and also checks on their well-being and if they

need any help or have concerns. If a person

does not check-in, we attempt to contact them.

If they aren’t reached, we call their emergency

contact or the non-emergency Police number.

To participate, call 252-975-9368 to

register.

Thursday, October 17th

@ GMHSC at 9:30am

Register at 252-975-9368

Dementia is not a disease, but rather a

group of symptoms ranging from

memory impairment, loss of

communication skills & a gradual

deterioration in the person’s ability to

carry out tasks & activities of daily

living. Dementia effects each person

differently. Come to listen & discuss

better ways we can help someone who

is dealing with Dementia.

Knowledge is Power...Learn with us….

It’s back and better than ever - chair volleyball.

Come join the group as teams of 6-8 attempt to

score points by volleying a beach ball across the

net. Participants must remain seated at all

times, so this is a great activity for members

with limited mobility. We’ll be starting out

playing 2 times a month, and if the response is

good, we’ll add more times. Everyone is

welcome to attend and get in on the FUN!
