Supernatural Virtues - Faith The supernatural virtues are faith, hope, and charity. They are called “supernatural” because they have their foundation in God, are directly related to God, and are for us men the way by which we can reach God directly. Faith, hope, and charity, too, are genuine powers - bestowed by God, of course - that a person can develop and consolidate with the grace of God so as to obtain “the abundant life” (see Jn 10:10).

Faith is the power by which we assent to God, acknowledge his truth, and commit ourselves personally to him. Faith is the path created by God leading to the truth that is God himself. Because Jesus is “the way, and the truth, and the life” (Jn 14:6), this faith cannot be merely an attitude or “confidence” about something or oth-er. On the one hand, the faith has definite contents, which the Church professes in the Creed, and it is her duty to safeguard them. Anyone who wants to accept the gift of faith, in other words, anyone who wants to believe, acknowledges this faith, which has been preserved constantly through the ages and in many different cul-tures. On the other hand, part of faith is a trusting relationship to God with heart and mind, with all one’s emo-tional strength. For faith becomes effective only through charity, practical love (see Gal 5:6). Whether someone really believes in the God of love is shown, not in his solemn affirmations, but rather in charitable deeds. (*This comes from YouCat 305-307. YouCat is a simplified version of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. While it was written for teens, many adults enjoy it since it is written in simpler language and is abbrevi-ated. If you’d like to see a copy, please contact Rose Debes. She’d be happy to show you!)

STEWARDSHIP MESSAGE FOR OCT. 27th:

Both the first reading and today’s Psalm say clearly that the Lord hears the cry of the poor. Have I been given the gifts—of time or money or abilities—to be the means by which God answers their need?

WORD OF LIFE MESSAGE: “An unexpected pregnan-

cy can be a difficult and frightening time, and it's important that

your friend knows you are thinking of her and supporting her…

Your support might be the only support she receives. Even if we

never know how, the smallest things we do can change someone's

life. You can make a difference in her life. Will you?”

A PRAYER FOR THE FAMILY

Jesus, our most loving redeemer,

You came to enlighten the world

With your teaching and example.

You willed to spend the greater part of Your life

In humble obedience to Mary and Joseph

in the poor home of Nazareth.

In this way, You sanctified that family,

which was to be an example for all Christian families.

Graciously accept our family, which we dedicate and

consecrate to You this day.

Be pleased to protect, guard and keep it in holy fear, in peace,

and in the harmony of Christian charity.

By conforming ourselves to the Divine model of Your family. Amen

BLESSING OF BABIES: Parish members are invited to participate in the Blessing of Babies where expect-

ing mothers receive a rose and a blessing from Father. Families can then place their rose under the church’s statue

of Mary & continue to pray the blessing along with the entire parish until birth. Each rose possesses a holy medal

which can then be presented at the child’s baptism. Father asks that families, mothers, fathers, grandparents, fami-

ly members who would like to celebrate this new life to call the parish office at 653-2963 and set up a time for

their baby’s rose presentation & blessing.

certain amount? Superior Essex of Hoisington is one employer that does this. Check with your employer and get

PRAYER FOR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY: O God, our creator, from Your provident hand we have received our right to

life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness. You have called us as Your people & given us the right & the duty to worship You,

the only true God, and Your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the power & working of Your Holy Spirit, You call us to live out our

faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light & the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society. We ask You to

bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind & heart to readily defend our freedoms

when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard on behalf of the rights of Your Church & the freedom

of conscience of all people of faith. Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons & daughters

gathered in Your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with every trial withstood & every danger

overcome—for the sake of our children, our grandchildren & all who come after us—this great land will always be “one na-

tion, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen!
