WAIHI EAST SCHOOL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 33/2014 29 October 2014

Kia ora Thank you for supporting our teacher only day yesterday. All classroom teachers and available teacher aides attended the full day sessions with Mike Scaddan, a brain specialist who works in kura to encourage and promote student learning, engagement and memory development. Mike has worked in each of our classrooms during the year and this new learning will assist us as we plan for 2015. A parent evening with Mike will be planned for 2015. This may interest you, as he will focus on the best ways to engage and form resilient boys and girls. Over the weekend some little (or larger) nasty's decided to vandalize our fort playground. This was extremely disappointing. Thank you to those whanau who reached out to let us know via Facebook and who helped secure our facilities. Next time if you notice any damage please email Emily or Briar and phone the local Police to lodge the incident. From this point the Police can investigate. Let’s hope that any further damage will be limited with the increased use of our school grounds in out of school hours. Larn Wilkinson has joined our staff on Friday. Senior students applied to be accepted into Larn’s mau rakau programme (traditional weaponry) and waka ama group. Congratulations to those students who were fully engaged in Larn’s programme last Friday. This is an amazing programme, one which we aim to run in 2015. Calf Club is on Monday—I know, time flies! Judging of animals will start at 11am. To add to the excitement we ask children to dress up their bikes and bring them to school for a bike parade in the afternoon. This is not compulsory, however will be a huge amount of fun for those children who choose to participate. Although the weather is not at its best, it is the term that students must wear school hats outdoors. To stop children grabbing any old hat, we ask that you name your child's hat on the outside brim. This usually stops any sneaky sneaks grabbing a hat that does not belong to them. Lastly, if you have any concerns please speak directly to the person/people involved. We need to know information and facts in order for action to be taken. Our job is to provide a safe, happy and engaging environment for your child. We need your support to ensure this happens. Together we Rise Above and Shine! Nga mihi nui, Emily ([email protected])

COMMUNITY NOTICES

On the 15th of October, we went to the

netball courts and gathered for the new

bike track opening. The kids rode on

the track.

When the kids sped past like a rocket,

the blossoms fell down on their heads.

I loved the day.

By Reid O, age 6, room 6.

Waihi East School got a bike track. I felt happy and it was

good to be a student. After we got back to our classroom,

we had macaroni cheese and then we had lunch. I felt

happy inside of my heart.

By Tegan O, age 6, room 6.

On the 15th of October we opened the new bike track.

Two people from each class got to

ride around the bike track. I

cheered or Reese. Reese was

shooting around the track like a

rocket. The other kids sped past in

a rainbow of colours. I felt so ex-

cited and wanted to ride around

too!
