PRESENTERS

Sanjeev Arora, MD, FACP, FACG: Sanjeev Arora is the Director of Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes). He is a tenured Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (UNMHSC). Sanjeev developed the Project ECHO model which utilizes video-conferencing technology and case-based learning to train primary care physicians in rural and underserved areas and prisons to deliver best-practice management of complex health conditions in their communities and correctional facilities.

Anthony Avent: A former NBA player, Anthony Avent is a native of Newark, New Jersey and a graduate of Seton Hall University with a BA in Liberal Arts and Communications. Anthony was a member of Seton Hall University’s 1989 team in the final four and a runner up in the NCAA championship. In 1995, Anthony earned a trip to the NBA finals with Orlando Magic. In his post- basketball career, Anthony founded the AA Pro Sports Enterprise to work with youth in sports, education and event production. As a supporter and champion of social causes, Anthony founded Party for Causes to assist foundations and grass root nonprofit organizations.

Regina Belle: A recent Rutgers graduate and a New Jersey native, Regina Belle is an award-winning pop, R&B, and gospel vocalist. Her 1987 debut album, “All By Myself,” includes the hits “So Many Tears” and “Show Me the Way.” In 1992, Regina’s collaboration with Peabo Bryson on “A Whole New World” in the Disney film Aladdin earned the duo both Grammy and Academy Awards. Her most recent album “Higher” was released in 2012. Regina currently serves as the First Lady of New Shield of Faith Ministries in Atlanta. She has performed internationally and also at the White House. Regina has presented to a variety of audiences regarding healthcare and the importance of caregiver support services.

Renee Fusco: Renee Fusco’s experience as an infection prevention and control professional began in 1997 along with consulting services for ambulatory care settings. Renee has been certified by the Certification Board for Infection Control (CBIC) since 2000 and has been self-employed as an infection prevention consultant since 2005. She is an active member of the Southern New Jersey chapter of The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC); Renee has served the chapter as Chairperson of the Nominating and Awards Committee. Renee has co-authored an article in The American Journal of Infection Control in 2005.

Jonathan Krasner: Jonathan Krasner is the Director of Business Development at HIPAA Secure Now (HSN)! HSN is an organization that provides HIPAA compliance and consulting services to small and mid-sized practices. At HSN, Jonathan is responsible for working directly with clients and healthcare associations on their HIPAA compliance needs. He is a well- known speaker in the area of Healthcare IT with over 20 presentations throughout the years to medical and practice management associations. Jonathan has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from the University of Texas.

Josh Liss: Josh Liss is the Senior Cyber Threat Intelligence Analyst supporting the New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Cell (NJCCIC) at the Regional Operations Intelligence Center (ROIC). In this role, he covers state-sponsored cyber espionage, international cybercrime, hacktivist activity, and the cyber threat posed by terrorist groups. Josh has previously served as an Intelligence Officer on active duty in the United States Marine Corps, including a deployment to Southern Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).

Kristin McCormick: Krisitin McCormick is an Intelligence Analyst for the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP). Kristin’s area of expertise covers Healthcare and Public Health, Maritime Transportation Sector, Freight Rail Transportation Sector, Communications Sector, Education Government Sector, and the Foreign Terrorist Organization al-Shabaab. Kristin has also worked for the Infrastructure Protection Protective Security Coordination Division in Washington, D.C., where she provided support to Protective Security Advisors in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Regions I & II.

Sanjay Seth, MHA: Sanjay Seth is the Executive Vice President of HealthEC® and President of Physician Consulting Services. In his early career, Sanjay was part of a turnaround team for the Interfaith Medical Center, Newark Beth Israel Hospital Center at Orange and East Orange General Hospital. He has lead numerous physician groups in their formation and re-structuring efforts including review and changes to the billing systems, implementation of the Electronic Medical Records and partnership agreements. Sanjay holds a Masters in Health Administration from Cornell University.

Balavignesh Thirumalainambi: Balavignesh (Bala) Thirumalainambi is the Meaningful Use Director of the New Jersey Health Information Technology Extension Center (NJ-HITEC) leading the department that educates, trains, and analyzes Meaningful Use statewide. Prior to NJ-HITEC, Bala was the Coordinator/Project Manager of Health e-cITi-NJ, a federally funded Health Information Exchange (HIE) in New Jersey. He has also served as a corporate Business Analyst at the St. Barnabas Healthcare System. Bala is an NJIT graduate in Management with a concentration in healthcare.

Sheila Thorne: A former senior executive in five health marketing communications companies, Sheila Thorne now heads up her own firm of multicultural, multilingual marketing and health education professionals—the Multicultural Healthcare Marketing Group, LLC in Englewood, New Jersey. Among her many awards are: “Distinguished Professor” by the National Black Alcoholism and Addictions Institute; the National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer “Unsung Heroes” Award; and the NAACP Freedom Fund Award for her efforts to secure quality healthcare for all. Sheila is published in Pharmaceutical Executive, Medical Marketing & Media, Journal of the New York State Dental Foundation, and the American Journal of Multicultural Medicine.

Edward Waters, JD: As a Managing Partner of Feldesman, Tucker, Leifer and Fidell (FTLF) since 2003, Ted Waters focuses his practice on helping organizations to solve problems, often in crisis situations. Ted’s expertise in financial cost reporting, reimbursement, and administrative issues is widely recognized and is illustrated by his selection as the 2014 and 2015 Washington, D.C. Super Lawyer in health care. He frequently conducts trainings for countless groups across the country including the American Bar Association, National Association of Community Health Centers, and the National Head Start Association.

Eric Weren: Eric Weren is currently employed as a Research Scientist II at the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH). For the last nine years, Eric has worked with NJDOH’s Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health (PEOSH) program. He has over thirty-five years of experience in occupational safety and health in the Chemical and Pharmaceutical industry, consulting and government. Eric was on the committee that established the original American National Standards (ANSI) Z-400 Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) standard. He has also worked as an adjunct instructor teaching NJ Hazard Communication Train the Trainer program, as well as personnel management and personal development courses for public employees in New Jersey.
