Why Paw Print?

Printing expenses were growing beyond budgeted funds

University labs and libraries were getting eaten alive by wasteful printing– reams & reams of paper– expensive toner cartridges

Needed a way to limit certain stations for GSU patrons

Advantages Disadvantages

Causes patrons to think before they print

Saves paper and toner for the library

Allows us to keep non-GSU patrons from monopolizing computers

Students think it is a hassle to require an account to print

Can cause patron and staff frustration

Dependent on several servers not under the Library’s control

Conclusions

Paw Print is an effective, but imperfect system for recovering printing costs.

The system is probably most suitable for larger institutions due to the level of support required from the computer center.
